The car sped away into the distance.

The masked man slammed the door shut, his temper flaring as he glanced into the rearview mirror at Winnie. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Winnie remained silent.

"If it didn't work, we'd both be done for," he snapped, his tone edged with frustration.

Her voice was calm, almost detached. "He's my nephew, and his health isn't good. Dragging him into a life on the run would do more harm than good." The man let out a bitter laugh. "So what now? You really plan on living like this forever?"

"Do you have some miraculous plan to turn this all around? I've already burned every bridge with him," Winnie said, her tone laced with bitterness. Yet, as she spoke, a faint glimmer of hope ignited within her, sparked by the man's words.

The masked man remained silent, his expression unreadable.

"Let's just take it one step at a time," he finally muttered.

Winnie nodded, but a sharp pain shot through her abdomen, forcing her to clutch her stomach.

The man's brows furrowed as he noticed her pale face. "What's wrong?"

Before she could answer, her head slumped forward. Blood pooled on the car seat beneath her.

"Winnie! Stay with me!"

He pulled the car to a screeching halt, frantically steadying the wheel before jumping out and checking on her. Seeing the blood, his face paled.

It hit him that she must have had a recent miscarriage and hadn't properly recovered, leading to this hemorrhage.

Without hesitation, he carried her to the back seat, slammed the door, and sped toward the nearest hospital, his urgency palpable.

Back at the scene, Ben's men gathered around.

"Should we keep chasing them?" one asked.

"No need," Ben replied, shaking his head. He bent down to gently pinch Charlie's cheek.

"I will take you to see your mom, okay?"

Charlie initially pouted, clearly unhappy with Ben's actions. But the moment he heard he could see his mom, his eyes lit up with excitement. "Okay!" he exclaimed.

Though he still looked frail from his recent illness, the mere thought of seeing his mom filled him with a joy that was unmistakable. Ben didn't delay, swiftly driving Charlie back to the villa.

Jamie was still resting, though her fever had stabilized after the medication. From her room, she suddenly heard a voice calling out faintly. "Mommy."

At first, she thought it was a hallucination, but when she turned her head, Charlie was running toward her, his arms outstretched. "Mommy, I missed you so much!"

Jamie's eyes filled with tears as she held him tightly. "Mommy missed you too. Did you have fun with Aunt Winnie?"

"Aunt Winnie was great, but..."

Charlie hesitated, his expression conflicted. He decided to keep quiet

about the grown-ups' matters, knowing they weren't his to share.

Jamie longed to hold him tighter but hesitated, remembering her recent illness and his fragile health. Reluctantly, she released him.

She looked up at Ben, her voice sincere. "Thank you, Ben, for bringing him back to me."

Ben cleared his throat, his tone distant. "I did it for the kid, not for you. No need to thank me."

Jamie understood his coldness and turned to Charlie. "Go thank Uncle Ben properly."

Charlie puffed out his chest like a little adult, his voice clear and bold. "Uncle Ben, thanks for bringing me back this time, but if you ever bully my mom, I won't let you get away with it!"

Ben chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Big words for a little guy."

But as he crouched down to meet Charlie's eyes, a warmth spread through him. His gaze softened. "Take care of your mom, okay?" Charlie beamed with pride. "Of course!"

Jamie cleared her throat softly. "MK

Lucas, the room isn't a great place for a child right now. There's still lingering sickness in the air. Could you take him out for a bit?"
