Receiving such a rare opportunity to participate in an international exchange program was not only a strong affirmation of Karina's professional abilities but also a perfect chance to broaden her horizons and elevate her career.

However, Sera who had been scheming with her saw this as another opportunity to escalate her plans.

She approached Karina privately, slipping her a small packet of white powder. "Dr. Norman," she whispered, her voice low and deliberate, "while you're traveling with the director, find an opportunity to slip this into his drink. Once it's done, I'll give you another hundred thousand." Karina's eyes widened in horror, and she instinctively shook her head. "No! That's illegal. I won't do it."

Sera's expression darkened, her voice turning cold and sharp. "Don't forget! You already took my money and agreed to help me."

She leaned in closer, her words dripping with menace. "If you refuse, I'll expose you. I'll tell everyone you accepted money and secretly took photos of the director. Your career will be over, and you'll be humiliated.

"Not to mention, what about the Stone family? If they find out you blew this opportunity, they'll make your life even more miserable."

The color drained from Karina's face as if someone had siphoned the blood right out of her. She thought about the years of hard work it had taken to get here. Was she really about to lose everything because of this moment?

But how could she betray her conscience? How could she face Wilfred after what he had done for her-after the trust he had shown her?

Sensing her hesitation, Sera pressed on, her tone more persuasive. "All you have to do is slip it into his drink. He'll fall asleep, and you can snap a couple of photos. That's it. After this, we're even, and I'll leave you alone." Karina bit her lip so hard it began to bleed, her mind spiraling. Trapped between fear and guilt, she reluctantly nodded.

Sera's lips curled into a satisfied smirk as she warned Karina not to try anything funny before walking off, leaving her standing there, clutching the packet of powder with trembling hands.

The departure day arrived sooner than Karina was ready for. She dragged her heavy suitcase alongside Wilfred as they headed for the airport.

Throughout the trip, Wilfred tried to

engage her in discussions about the upcoming exchange program, casually asking for her thoughts various medical topics, perhaps to ease her obvious nerves. But Karina's responses were distant and half-hearted, her mind consumed by the impossible task ahead.

In the airport lounge, Karina's palms were slick with sweat. She stole glances at Wilfred as guilt and dread churned in her chest, the war within her growing louder with each passing minute.

Once they boarded the plane, Karina's heart pounded so hard she swore everyone around her could hear it. Seated beside Wilfred in the narrow cabin, her anxiety intensified.

When the flight attendant came by to offer drinks, Karina's hands shook as she accepted a water cup. She avoided Wilfred's gaze entirely, fingers brushing against the cold, tiny packet in her coat pocket. Sensing something was off, Wilfred turned to her, his voice gentle but probing. "Dr. Norman, are you feeling alright? You don't look well."

Karina forced a smile, though her face felt stiff. "I'm fine, Dr. Wilfred. Just a little tired, that's all."

The rest of the flight passed in agonizing silence for Karina. When the plane finally touched down, relief and dread washed over her in equal measure. She followed Wilfred off the plane, her steps unsteady as though the ground beneath her feet might crumble.

While collecting their luggage, she nearly grabbed the wrong suitcase, snapping back to reality only when Wilfred quietly corrected her mistake.

Outside the airport, they were

greeted by a driver who took them to

their hotel. But upon check-in, the

front desk clerk informed them of a

glitch in the reservation system only one double room was available.

Wilfred frowned slightly, then turned to Karina, his tone calm but firm. "For now, take the room, Dr. Norman. I'll see if I can make other arrangements."
