TEGAN'S P.O.V

Demons were attacking in every direction. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. They don't offer a Demon 101 class for us on what is needed to stop them. I began to panic as the shadow figures hit my body left and right, pushing me closer to the edge of the pathway that dropped off into the pits of hell.

"FIGHT BACK!" Trystan hollered out.

"HOW!? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!"

What was I thinking? There was never a chance in hell, literally, that I would win. I had no clue what to do when it came to battling someone who was already dead. I should have done the research to find absolutely anything to help us in this situation. Yet I didn't. I knew what I was up against, yet all I did was learn how to harvest my powers and control them to use them against Iblis, and apparently, I was even doing that incorrectly.

I hit the next figure swooping in to attack me, only my hand went right through its body. However, it managed to collide with my own body. WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K WAS GOING ON? How could I not hit them, yet they could hit me? "USE YOUR POWERS, TEGAN!" Trystan screamed.

"I don't know how to use them without pulling energy off others and I refuse to pull y'all's energy, it would weaken y'all!" I screamed back.

"It's not rocket surgery, just think and act!" He yelled as his magic left the palm of his hands, hitting the figures, instantly making them evaporate.

A holler from the side made me realize that Ezra was also being attacked. Except he had absolutely no magic, therefore he would never win this fight. His body was thrown in the air as it skidded across the floor.

"EZRA!" I screamed as I began to run to him, only for more shadows to appear in front of me, instantly stopping me in my tracks. One hit me again, making my body fly backward as I hit the ground.

Another scream made me look up quickly to see Ezra was now on the edge of the wall, holding onto the edge with his hands. Another shadow of a Demon swooped down to hit him, making me scream, a burst of energy radiating off the walls hitting all of the shadows in every direction around the area I was in, instantly evaporating them all at once.

I quickly ran over to grab Ezra's hand, attempting to pull him off the ledge. But his body was too heavy for me. I couldn't get him up. The more I pulled, the more I struggled, quickly losing my grip on his hand. I could feel the sweat between our hands causing friction, making me lose my grasp.

"Don't let go!" Ezra yelled.

"TRYSTAN, HELP ME!" I hollered, but he was occupied fighting for his own life against the shadows that weren't evaporated with my burst of energy.

I looked back down, below Ezra. Everything below him was dark and never-ending. It was what I would describe as a black hole. Or maybe even what I would assume the bottom of the ocean looked like; nothing but pitch black. With each passing second, I could feel his hand slipping out of mine.

"I can't hold on much longer!" I screamed out in a panic.

My hands were busy holding onto him as hard as I could, so my magic was useless. I didn't know how to use it while they were occupied holding on to him. The sweat was building and my grip was loosening before they slipped right out of my own hands. Then I watched as he began to fall into the darkness.

"NO!" I screamed out, now trying to use my free hands to keep him from free falling.

I couldn't get my powers to come forth. Normally panic was when they worked best. However, as his body continued to fall, I realized I was epically failing at saving my mate's life. How was I supposed to protect the world if I couldn't do a basic levitation spell in a time of need? Tears began to flow freely down my face as more shadow figures began to filtrate the area. But at this point, my heart was shattered. My mate was gone, he fell into the pits of hell and my magic was doing nothing to save his life. I felt hopeless and completely broken inside.

"FIGHT THEM BACK!" Trystan screamed again from across the room.

But what was the point? My entire world was gone. What else was there to fight for?

'For ourselves, for our son!' Gemma screamed, but all I could do was think about him. How I lost him.

"FIGHT BACK, TEGAN!" Trystan screamed again.

But truth be told, I saw no point. I was useless, this battle was pointless and they'd already won. So instead I stood there motionless and in a daze, not really caring what happened to me next.

'We have too much to live for! To fight for! Snap out of it and fight back!' Gemma screamed at me again.

But I ignored her pleas. How was she okay with this? We just lost our mate, our other half. What makes her able to push that heartache aside and fight? As if what happened didn't just happen. How was she not completely broken inside like I was? "You need to snap out of it! We need to get out of here!" Trystan hollered as he took hold of Lucy, murmuring some incantation before her body dropped into his arms. "Let's get the key out of here!" He screamed as he bolted toward the door.

I stood up from the ground while the shadow figures regrouped. My eyes drifted over to where Ezra was dangling, begging me not to let go. His words were echoing in my mind on repeat.

"TEGAN, HE IS GONE. LET'S GO BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR SON AN ORPHAN!" Trystan yelled as he got to the door, reaching down for the knob.

He turned the doorknob and the light from the other side shined in. Familiar faces emerged from behind the door and their voices flooded my senses.

"COME ON!"

"HURRY WE NEED TO CLOSE IT BACK!"

"GET OVER HERE BEFORE MORE DEMONS GET OUT!"

I could hear multiple different screams coming from one direction. I forced my body to move toward them. I was still in a daze trying to come to terms with the fact that Ezra risked his life to come down here and save me. Now I was leaving this awful place without him because I was unable to do the same for him. Once I was on the other side the door slammed shut behind me.

"WHAT HAPPENED TO LUCY!?" The voice of Fredrick hollered out.

A soft hand then touched my shoulder, causing me to look over.

"Honey, where is Ez..." The soft voice of Helena began to ask but before she could get his name out I was already shaking my head no in response as more tears fell down my face. She then pulled me into her arms for a tight embrace.

"So much for a secret knock, not like either of whom knew it could've done it anyway seeing how one is unconscious and one is..." Darion started to say before switching the conversation. "How'd you open the door anyway? Helena had her magic on it." Trystan then looked over at Darion and rolled his eyes in response before walking to the door and murmuring another incantation.

"That'll hold long enough to get Helga, then we close it for good." He then said as he turned to me. "Sorry about your mate." He said almost apologetically before pulling out his phone from his pocket, dialing digits, and walking away. "What happened down there, T?" Fredrick asked as he cradled Lucy tightly to his chest.

"Let's get back to the kingdom, then I'll explain," I responded as I started to walk out of this goddess-awful house.

All I knew was that I was determined to kill Iblis before he took anyone else from me.
