TEGAN'S

P.O.V

I had this sudden urge to follow the person who was just there. But why? Why was I feeling so strongly about this particular person? Did it have something to do with our situation, or something entirely different? "I'll be back," I said as I rose from my seat.

"WAIT!" Novalee hollered out as Ezra jumped up.

"Does she always act on instinct without using her head?" I heard her ask Ezra, who only huffed a laugh out in response.

"Tegan, hold on, what if it's Sybil! You need to be more careful!"

Something inside of me told me that it wasn't her. But I wasn't sure why I felt this way. I hadn't had this strong of a connection to anyone since Iblis pushed his way into my mind. Was this person as powerful as Iblis to push her way into my head? What did this person want?

"She has a point T. We have a family to think about here. We can't just act on instinct anymore. Not when Alex is awake."

"Sybil." Novalee corrected.

"Whatever her name is, that part is least relevant to the issue at hand."

I could hear what they were saying, but there was something inside of me that was pulling me in the direction of seeking this person out. Did I need what they had to offer? Were they here for the same purpose that we were? "Tegan, are you even listening to us?" Ezra asked in a more dominant voice.

"Yeah, safety. Got it."

"No T, you haven't got it. Come back inside."

He and I both knew that wasn't going to happen.

"For a King, you sure have no say in shit, huh?"

"She has equal authority. I can't command my mate to do what I can command others to. It doesn't work that way."

"Right, the whole equality among mates. Got it." Novalee replied to Ezra sarcastically.

In the mix of their back-and-forth, I began to hear a soft voice.

"Shh, do you hear that?" I said to them while continuing to move forward.

"Has she gone mad?" Novalee then asked Ezra.

"Hear what, Red?"

I closed my eyes as the words grew louder in my head.

'The darkened sky only brings sad days. The loneliness of missing you keeps me in a haze.

I close my eyes and drift to sleep but suddenly awake in a weep.

Between my hands, your face only grew colder. Reminding me you aren't there to grow older.

Oh, how I wish I could change the tables. But for now, I will push on if I am able.

I will one day seek revenge. But always remember that my love for you will never ever end.

I will be with you in the sky one day. But only after I make them pay!

It was a poem. A beautiful yet depressing one. It made me want to cry. So much pain was in each word that it crushed my soul.

"They are hurting, and it's grief beyond anything I have ever felt," I said as I clutched my chest. "I feel it all, the pain, the loss, the anger."

"Maybe you shouldn't interact with this person. They sound bad for your mental stability, and we need you on your A-Game if we are going to take down Sybil and her curse for good." Novalee suggested.

But there was no turning back. This person reached out to me for a reason. What that reason was, I have no idea. But they needed my help. And if I was able to, I would do it.

"You shouldn't have followed me." A deep feminine voice echoed down the alleyway.

"Why did you share your emotions with me? What do you need?"

"I didn't share my emotions with anyone. I only needed what you already provided."

"What was that poem?" I then asked, but they didn't respond, so I spoke again. "Listen, I want to help you. But I can't if you won't let me."

"I don't know what you mean by a poem. I didn't share my emotions or a poem with you."

"Then why did I feel and hear them so loudly?"

"Good question. Maybe you're clinically insane. All I know is that I could never get the revenge I deserved. Until now. Now I have all that I need. So, thanks for that."

"What revenge are you seeking?" I asked, avoiding the insult she threw at me.

"A life for a life," the voice answered.

"Whose life?" I asked before speaking again. "Hello? Are you there? Whose life?" I tried yelling my questions in the dark alleyway. But the silence told me that she wasn't going to respond. She was long gone. "Hell, maybe she wants to kill Sybil too," Novalee suggested.

"I don't understand. She says she didn't share her emotions nor did she share the poem. If that were true, then why was that all I could feel and hear?"

"Maybe you misread her?"

"No, it was coming from her. The poem was on repeat in her head. I don't understand why she would deny it. I also don't understand why she wouldn't come to talk to me."

"Some people like to work alone," Novalee replied with a shrug.

"But if she wants what we also want, then why couldn't we work together to accomplish just that?"

"From what you're describing, it sounds personal. It's starting to get chilly out here. Let's at least get back inside. Plus, this alleyway is starting to give me the creeps."

I turned to look back down the dark alleyway but, as expected, not a single shadow was on the wall. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air. I was still so confused. I had her overwhelming feelings raging inside of me, yet I had no clue who she was or what she looked like. Why would she share her feelings unintentionally?

'Help her', I suddenly heard a faint voice in my head. I quickly turned in circles trying to figure out who was talking to me.

'It'll destroy her, help her please.' The same voice begged.

I stopped in my tracks, turning back around, but nobody was there.

"Are you coming?" Ezra hollered over his shoulder.

What the hell was that? I shook my head to try and gather my bearings on this reality as I followed them back inside.

"I am going to go to the restroom really quickly." I said as we walked inside.

'Are you okay?' Ezra mind-linked me.

'Yeah, I just need a moment. I am going to splash some water on my face. I'll be right back, okay?' I responded as he kissed my forehead and nodded, letting me know he understood.

I rushed to the bathroom. Once inside, I locked the door, so I could have a moment to myself.

'Get it together.' I whispered out loud as I looked at myself in the mirror.

I took a deep breath before turning the faucet on and splashing my face with the cold water. When I opened my eyes, the reflection looking back sent chills down my spine.

Her eyes were bloodshot, blood was seeping out of her eye sockets as if she were crying red. Her body was ghostly white. Life was no longer there. Along her neckline, there were scratches, as if she were clawing at her own skin. 'Help her.'

Her words were making me drowsy.

"How. How do I help her?" I asked while starting to feel dizzy.

'Don't let her do what she did to me.'

The more she talked, the more blurry everything around me became. What happened to her?

'Help her!'

Help her was the last thing she screamed before a banging at the door made her disappear. That was when my body hit the floor. My brain, however, could only think of one thing as the room turned black. How do I help her?
