TEGAN'S

P.O.V

How did I let things get so messed up? He told me to get the kids and go, to protect them. Which was all I have ever done. So of course, that's what I would do. But I couldn't stop asking myself why I listened? Why didn't I ignore his request and protect him too? If I would've ignored him and fought Sibil head on, he'd probably still be here. But as much as I wanted to blame myself for what happened, the truth of the matter was, we were in immediate danger and I had to get us all out of sight.

After what had happened today, we would have to go into hiding. At least temporarily, until I could take care of Uriah for his betrayal. But even with that knowledge, I still wanted to blame myself for what happened to Ezra. He managed to leave me even more broken than when he disappeared without so much as a note. Because now, I knew it was certain. He was gone. There was no hope left. I felt the bond snap. "Tegan, what's going on? Talk to us?" Lucy pushed harder.

But I couldn't form the words. I felt pain when he disappeared, but it was nothing like this. This form of pain was overtaking every breath that I took. Consuming me whole. "What happened to Ezra?" Fredrick asked.

Hearing his name only cut deeper. How was I supposed to move on with my life? How was I supposed to ever be happy again?

"Our bond...it...it's gone."

"What do you mean by gone?"

Fear was written all over her face with that question because she knew the answer.

"Did Sibil...Did she succeed?" She asked when I didn't respond.

Succeed. A word that I never expected to kill my soul to hear. But the question remained in the air anyhow. The tension in the air was almost palpable. Did she succeed? 'Bond is gone.' Gemma echoed my exact thoughts in my head.

If our bond snapped, then that had to mean that Sibil succeeded with her plan. Which also meant that my mate was... dead.

"I have to find him. I have to find what she has done with him. She can't get away with this!"

All my words spilled out at once, anger intertwined with each and every word.

"I know this is extremely bad timing, but this can't be put off any longer. I hate to lay more shit on you right now but I need to tell you something. Something big." What could possibly be bigger than the King of the realm dying?

"It's about Elias." He then said, gaining my full attention.

The overbearing pain of losing Ezra almost made me forget why Fred took us into his office to begin with.

I tried recomposing myself, readying myself for more bad news. But I wasn't sure if anything he could say would top the death of my mate.

"What is it, Fredrick?"

"There's a legend. One never spoke. One that the Elders tried to do away with. Destroying anything that pertained to it. But I saw it, the only copy left. I'm not even sure how Alpha Liam got a copy."

"Liam?" The name instantly brought back unwanted memories. I pushed them aside before continuing to speak. "How would you know what Liam was looking into?"

"I was doing work for him, long ago. And while setting up the security system in his office it was on his desk. It was burnt all around on the edges, which made it kind of hard to read. But it was there. I was curious what it all meant, so I snapped a picture of it then did extensive research over the years."

"What was it?" Lucy asked.

"He was searching for a true gold wolf. I'd never heard of a golden wolf. Only white with gold eyes, like..."

"Ezra-" I finished the sentence for him. "But what makes you think Elias would be this legendary gold wolf?"

"Gold powers seeping from his palms. Resurrection of the dead. Do I need to go on?"

"I resurrected Lucy from the dead."

"Yeah, once. But was there gold seeping from your hands?"

No. But he knew that.

"And have you been able to do it again?"

He knew that the answer was also no.

"The legend you all know, says that the gates of hell will be opened."

"That much has already come true. You saw it yourself. Lucy opened them. She was the actual gate keeper, not Elias."

"Right, but it said that after the gatekeeper failed to protect-" He paused momentarily before looking over at Lucy. "No offense babe-" He paused for a reaction. When she gave him none, he continued on. "When the gate keeper fails to protect-" "Then the underworld will be released on the upper world." I cut him off, summarizing the legend.

"Right. However, the one that Liam had, well it had more on it."

"More?"

"Yeah, there was more on. It wasn't much, but it still had me questioning what it meant."

"What did it say?" I asked, finally interested in where this was going.

"It said that once the gatekeeper releases the underworld the man who yields life will come into his powers. He is said to have these powers to protect the realm from certain death."

"So what you're saying is you think that this legend is still about my toddler? You're trying to tell me that the man who yields life will be Elias."

"I'm saying he fits the profile." Fredrick corrected.

"And the man who yields death. Is this someone that Elias will have to fight?"

"Elias and Iblis?" Lucy then asked.

I didn't want to face reality. I had been praying that since Lucy was the gatekeeper then Elias's fate wasn't tangled with Iblis. But no matter how much I tried to change it, Elias's fate kept intertwining itself. "Actually, I Don't think it will be him."

"If not Iblis, then who?" Lucy asked.

"I believe that Iblis is the real yielder of death's placeholder."

"Do you think that the death yielder hasn't been born yet?"

"Maybe, or maybe they've always been here. Waiting for the right time to reemerge."

"What do you mean?"

"What people don't understand is that something can't just simply be erased. Everything leaves a footprint. Footprints if shown, will prevail."

When neither of us responded, he spoke again.

"I found a name. A name that may or may not be the real underworld yielder."

"What did you find?" Lucy asked.

I could tell she was getting more invested as the conversation got darker.

"Josiah."

His name made my heart sink to the pit of my stomach. He must've seen it in my eyes because in response, he shook his head in agreement.

"Am I missing something? Who is Josiah?"

"Can't be the same person." I said softly.

"The Moon Goddess is the light, whereas the devil is the dark. When Sibil took her revenge, she tore apart our universe. Creating a place for both good and evil. And in the absence of his true love, he became what human's feared the most. Death." Lucy's eyes darted between the two of us. "Still not following here."

"Sibil's story. I've torn it apart and put it back together so many times. Looking for answers. Looking for anything. You had this big piece of information and didn't tell me?"

"This wasn't something I have thought of in years, Tegan. When I looked into all this, I was only 18. I didn't even know of Sibil until this year. I would've never linked them. Not until I was told about Elias's golden palms. Then it all came rushing back. All the research, all the effort."

"Why the secrecy then?"

"Because, if Josiah found out that the healer has finally emerged then he will come. Which means that nobody. And I mean nobody can find out."

I knew this gift would have to be kept a secret. I just didn't think he would need to be kept a secret because of the first werewolf created. I was simply thinking about everyone else wanting to use his gift for themselves. But this vital information made the decision set and stone. His gift must remain a secret, forever.

"What happens when life collides with death?" I then asked.

"That was the only part of the legend that I could never find."

His words sent chills running down my spine. I wasn't sure what was more terrifying. The fact that Sibil's psychotic self was now roaming this earth freely or the fact that her ex-lover never left. The Moon Goddess allowed us to borrow some of her powers in order to end the darkness before it arose. But with this newfound information I now wondered if she was referring to Iblis or to her soul mate, Josiah?
