EZRA'S

P.O.V

I looked back at Tegan as she stood from the ground gathering up all her keepsake memories. I started helping to get it all back in the box.

"We will be down shortly." I said to her stepsister, annoyed at the interruption.

I was so close to having her lips on mine once again and poof it was snatched away.

"I just want to ensure that the King has the proper escort to his dinner." She said in an openly flirtish tone.

"No thanks. I have all I need right here. You can leave us be." I said turning to look at Tegan while dismissing Allie.

The sound of feet stomping away let me know that she got the hint, and I didn't have to repeat myself. Tegan began to push the windowsill up when I put my hand over hers, stopping her. Her eyes looked up to me as her face scrunched up the cute way it does when she was confused.

"This is going home with you." I said as I looked at the box from her hand. "It doesn't belong here; we will drop it off in our room before heading down to dinner." I said as a smile crossed her face.

"That will make us late, we are already pushing close to 7." She said with a frown.

"And? We are the King and Queen. The party doesn't start until we say it does." I said playfully to lighten the mood.

"Dad won't be happy. He will think I am blandly disrespecting him." She said with a hint of fear on her voice.

"Tegan, he has no control over you. He will never and I mean ever hurt you again. If he so much as lays a finger on you in any aggressive manner, I will chop the entire hand off, whole. You have nothing to fear. He can get happy in the same pants he got mad in." I said bluntly, making her giggle.

"But you won't actually chop it off right?" She asked as we walked out.

"For laying a hand on my Queen. I damn sure would, with zero hesitation."

We dropped off the box in our room before she led me the way down to the dining hall. She walked in first making her father's face frown in confusion before it connected with my face which made him smile a fake smile.

"Alpha King, thank you for being here for my son's ceremony in a few days. We hadn't expected you so early, but it is always a pleasure." He said to me before looking over at Tegan, addressing her for the first time. "Tegan, I hadn't expected you, after all you always seem to fail at your tasks."

"Thank you for hosting us, however, address Tegan formally Alpha Drake. The appropriate verbiage for a Queen is not her first name, right?" I asked aggressively, more of an intimidation tactic for his blandly disrespect. "And I'd advise you to show your Queen some respect. She may be a guest in your home but that does not give you the right to disrespect her. Next time consider that before speaking, most would have their tongues removed for such disrespect." My eyes never wavered as he visibly shook. "My apologies, Alpha King." He said bowing.

"It is not I that deserves the apology." I said looking over to Tegan.

"Right. Of course. My apologies Te... Queen." He hissed out with so much irritation in his tone that it managed to piss me off even more.

“Come, come have a seat. This seat is for you, Alpha King." Jessie said as she pulled out a chair between her and her daughter.

"That's kind but I will be sitting next to my wife." I spoke. "Do you mind scooting down one so that it can free up the chair next to Tegan." I asked Allie.

Her face mirrored her mother's as she stood up and scooted down one seat, allowing the last two seats at the table to be next to one another. I ended up opting to sit next to her stepsister, I didn't want Tegan to have to endure whatever smart remarks she would manage to get out under her breath. Tegan then took a seat as I handed her Elias.

"Who is that?" A semi husky voice asked across the table.

My eyes looked across to one of her brothers faces. The younger of the two brothers, Fredrick, was looking between Tegan and Elias. Somehow nobody else had mentioned him since arriving, like they hadn't even noticed he was there. Tegan looked at me like she shouldn't speak but I only nodded my head. She shouldn't feel the need to not talk.

"I forgot you don't speak. Um, let me see if I can remember something." He began to think as he put his thumb on his chin and pointer finger pointed towards Tegan and flicked his pointer finger down, signing 'who', before putting his pinky finger to his lips and pulling it away to sign 'is'. His face then scrunching up as he tried to remember the sign for 'that', but Tegan spoke instead.

"This is Ezra and I's son, Elias." Her face looked surprised that he even knew two signs. She had mentioned once before that nobody cared to learn sign language here, so Fredrick knowing even a little bit took her by surprise.

"You sound different. More comfortable with yourself, I am sure." He said before his face scrunching as he thought about signing.

"Thank you for trying, there is no need for you to think so hard. I can read lips." Tegan said, not revealing to them that she could hear.

"Right. I remember." He spoke.

The chef's started to bring the food out. As they laid platters out Drake decided to speak once again.

"I must've missed something. I thought she didn't fulfill her contract."

"It was voided." Tegan decided to address her father this time, her eyes never wavering as if challenging him.

"But yet there is an heir. So, what exactly happened with my payment?" He asked as he looked over to me.

"Can't we just enjoy dinner? And praise the Goddess that you have a healthy grandchild?" Fredrick asked as he cut into his smothered chicken.

"If he came from her, he is no grandchild of mine." Drake said, making Tegan let out the most vicious growl. She had never growled before, let alone that aggressively.

"You will not speak to my child as you had me. If you talk about my son the way you talked about me again or so much as think of treating him illy, I will kill you where you stand. Do you hear me?" She then took a bite of a green bean before speaking again. "You do have one thing right though." She said as she took another bite. "You will never have the pleasure of saying your grandchild is the ruler of all kingdoms." A wicked smile crossed her face before taking another bite, her eyes never leaving his. The presence of fear lingering in his own eyes.
