Chapter 74

EZRA'S P.O.V

It didn't take long before Tegan returned.

"Hey, how'd it go?" I asked curiously.

"Pretty good actually. But you won't believe what I saw." She immediately said while entering.

"What did you see?"

"Darion was there, but not alone... He was f*****g someone."

"What the hell?"

"But you won't believe who... Jessie!" She nearly hollered.

"No fucking way!"

"Yeah, and then Fredrick showed up before I could really confront them."

"Shit... What are we going to do about them?"

"Nothing, for now." She replied with a wicked grin across her face.

"Okay, aside from that what else happened?"

"Aside from Darion and Jessie burning that horrid image in my head, nothing... I do however think Fredrick is a good candidate. But I haven't met the others yet." She said as she walked over to the windowsill. "I sent out letters to all the applicants with set dates for them all to come to the palace for an interview." I said proudly.

"When?" She then asked.

"Starting the day after we return to the Kingdom."

She shook her head in understanding before looking back out the window. I watched as her face scrunched and uncrunched, she looked like she was deep into her thoughts.

"What's swirling around in that pretty little head of yours?" I asked as I approached to stand next to her.

"Just the unknown of everything. What if I fuck it up choosing?" She asked, looking over at me.

"I don't see you fucking that up. After you meet them, you will know by the way they think. It'll allow better access for you to make the right call. I trust your judgment." I said as I placed a hand on her back. "But I didn't see the monster Liam was. He showed me what I wanted to see, and I believed him like a fool."

"He fooled a lot of people, Tegan."

"Not you. You sensed it. I remember the way you reacted to him at our wedding. Why did I not take that as a sign?"

"Because I hurt you. Why would you trust my judgment after what I had done to you?"

"You're the King, don't you have some superpower to know when someone is bad?"

"Ha. I wished it were that simple. But unfortunately, I am not special. I just get these feelings right here." I said, touching her chest where her heart was. "I may be a wolf, but I am also human, sometimes even I f**k up not listening to those feelings. Even if my heart and head begged me to." I said, hoping she understood it was regarding her.

"I just don't want to give these people another Alpha like Kirk or Liam." She said as she took a seat in the window.

I peered off, looking out into the wintery sky as the windowsill shook hard. My eyes quickly diverted to Tegan. Her eyes were rolled to the back of her skull, leaving white in its absence. Her body shook uncontrollably, fear shaking me to my core. I didn't know she had seizures, what the fuck do I do? I quickly wrapped my hands around her as she began to fall. I slowly inched her to the ground not wanting to do any harm. Once she was on the ground, I turned her to her side as I had seen in a show before. Her body continued to shake until suddenly she completely stopped.

"TEGAN! TEGAN!" I screamed, as I turned her face toward me.

Her eyes blinked once before the whiteness faded to her normal beautiful shade of green. She blinked a few times before gasping for air. I pulled her tightly against my body as I cradled her close.

"I saw him." Was as she said as she shook with fear.

"Who, you saw who?"

"The Demon Lord." She said with a blank face.

"A premonition?" I asked, confused at what exactly she meant.

"No, it was more like I was in his body. As if we were one in the same. I could feel his anger, see what he saw, and hear every last one of his thoughts."

"How?" I asked, confused.

"I am not sure. I was thinking about Elias and how I want him to have a better future when everything around me became a blur and I was no longer me. I was all of a sudden him." "Did he pull you in?"

I needed to know what was happening, what was going on. But I knew she was just as lost in confusion as I was.

"I don't think he even knew I was there." She said as her eyes connected with mine for the first time since holding her against my chest.

What could have made her randomly be sucked into his mind and what did that mean for us? I stared at her, wishing I could be in her mind to understand what exactly she was thinking. "What all could you feel and see?" I asked, hoping to get more insight into what she experienced.

"He was looking at his hand, rubbing his fingers together. He was alone and angry. He was so angry. But I couldn't decipher about what exactly. He wanted someone badly, but he wasn't saying who. He kept thinking of two terms over and over again. The key. I still don't understand what it means or how it relates to anything." "Was there anything else?"

She shook her head 'no' before looking over to the play pen again. I could see the wheels churning in her mind. She was thinking of something. But what?

"Don't bottle it up, tell me what you're thinking." I then said to her,

Her eyes looked back to me before she turned to look back at the playpen.

"Something is coming. He didn't think much about it. All I felt was his anger and power. But a sense of danger lurked with every breath we took. He is planning something. Something big. I was thinking about Elias and how I want him to have a better future when I was pulled into whatever that was. Which makes me wonder if the Demon Lord was also thinking of him too. I can't help but wonder if maybe that was what pulled me into his head. I'm not sure of course, but if that was what pulled me into his mind then it leads me to another question. Was the feeling I felt of something big coming and the danger surrounding it while in his mind about Elias?"

My mind went back to the day her eyes turned red as she spoke of something big coming. That we needed to prepare to protect Elias. I never told Tegan what she had done, actually I hadn't told anyone. But maybe I shouldn't have kept it to myself. It seems now that it wasn't just some freak accident. Maybe it was exactly as she said, something big was coming. A danger that we needed to prepare for. Which leaves two questions. How long would we have to prepare before he comes and why was he coming to begin with?
