Chapter 80

TEGAN'S

P.O.V

I knew inside that I was ready to start training with my gifts. Truth be told, I was born ready but the more days that pass by the more I could feel the powers festering inside of me. They wanted out, begging to be set free. I was in the forest stretching when I heard footsteps approaching.

"You're not going to believe what I am about to tell you. So, I somehow used my anger to master my fire gift!" I said only turning around to be disappointed by it not being Tanner. "What are you doing here?" I asked, more hateful than I had intended it being.

"King Ezra asked that I assist with your training."

"I have a trainer, so you can go." I said as I started stretching again, my excitement went from 100 to 0 real quick.

"I would but he said this is what he needed. Something only a select few know about your gifts and the more people pushing you to your limits the better for your training."

“Tanner pushes me to my limits just fine." I said as I began to stretch my arms.

"Was that with or without using your gifts?" He said, making me pause my stretch. "With your gifts, you are going to need good competition. Therefore, more people to push those limits so you can reach your full potential."

I guess he had a point. I needed to master them as fast as I could and one-on-one sessions may not cut it anymore. I need to be pushed beyond my limitations if I ever want to make real progress. The Demon Lord was coming, we weren't sure when, and we were still unsure why. But we knew that him coming would be dangerous. The faster I could master my abilities, the faster I could be strong enough to protect my child.

"Fine, you can stay. You may be right." I said as I released my arm.

"So, now that's settled. I need to tell you something." He said, grabbing my attention again. "What?"

"I don't want to step on toes or hell I guess I am by just telling you. But Ezra thinks there is something going on with you and Tanner. He asked me to observe you two together during these sessions and let him know. Now I won't go back on my word Tegan. I will tell him what I think, and I will tell him the truth. But I also don't want to be that guy, so I am telling you now. If you're trying to hide something between the two of you and you don't want anyone to know then keep hiding it. I told him if I felt like there were more between the two of you, I would tell him. And I don't plan on going back on my word. But I also won't go behind your back. Which is why I am telling you before Tanner arrives. It is your choice to make. The ball is in your court." Fredrick said, stunning me. Ezra was worried about Tanner? Why on the goddess green earth would he worry about Tanner of all people? Not that it was any of his business, but still.

Then asking my brother, the person I hardly even trusted to begin with, to spy on me. Was he crazy? What was he expecting, we are not a couple and I could see whoever I wanted. And if I did desire to see sometime then he couldn't say a thing. Tanner was my friend and a damn good one at that. I wouldn't allow Ezra to draw a wedge between us all because he is jealous and insecure. I don't understand why he didn't just ask me what was going on. Was he afraid of what I would say? I wasn't sure what answers he was searching for or what the outcome of this was he was expecting but either way it pisses me off. I wasn't his property nor would he act like I was.

"What exactly is he doing here?" Tanner's voice asked, taking me out of my thoughts.

"As you may know I am becoming more powerful. It was decided that I needed more trainers to help me control and master these gifts. So, Fredrick was asked to assist." I replied.

"He knows?" Tanner asked, confused.

I could understand his confusion, the gifts were supposed to be a secret, yet here was my brother, someone Tanner only saw as my personal tormentor knew my dark secret. "He does."

"Out of everyone to tell, why him?" Tanner asked, looking at me.

"She didn't tell me." Fredrick responded instead.

"Then how else would you know?"

"I saw it." He replied.

"Tegan, we talked about not practicing outside of training. Not until you've mastered it." Tanner said to me.

"Well, I wasn't exactly practicing. I kind of lost control of my temper and used it. But on the bright side, I know emotions help trigger them."

"Of course they do, magic is based on emotions, which is why we have to train so you can master your emotions to pull the gift you need without losing control... What happened?" Tanner asked disappointingly, never breaking eye contact. After explaining what I had done, it left Tanner shocked. His face mirrored the same face of those who witnessed it that night.

"Okay, maybe we will need more than one trainer." He said, looking between me and Fredrick. "Well, let's jump in then." He said taking his fighting stance.

After hours, we managed to get me to pull two gifts out at my will. Controlling my emotions isn't easy. Tanner didn't think it would be considering all I have been through. He asked me to go home and relax. To meditate and try to control my thoughts and emotions. I needed to be able to pull an emotion up without actually feeling that emotion. Which I have no idea how that was even possible. My emotions were everywhere. Especially after the week I had. I felt so alive, so fresh. Almost like a part of me was relieved. Ezra and I had spent quality time together, we spoke on a personal level that made me think it was time to give us a chance. But then he goes and pulls a stunt like sending Fredrick to watch me. Was he not brave enough to face me himself?

If he wanted a competition, I would give him some. It may be real, it may not be. But if that was what he was seeking. Then that was what he was going to get.

I had one more stop to make, a place I had come to rely on for my own sanity at this point. Someone to listen to me, to hear what I was saying and validate my emotions. The person who has helped me decipher what those feelings meant and what I should do about them. I still had 45 minutes before Imagen was off for the night so my next stop was clear to me. I needed to go see Kennedy.
