Chosen By An Alpha
Chapter 62

Grace’s POV

My fingers gently combed through Zayden’s hair as I stared at him. The doctor had assured me that he was heavily medicated so he shouldn’t be in pain but I was still waiting for him to wake up. I was thankful for Alpha Craig for increasing the protection on our borders for the safety of the pack and its members.

“Please wake up.”, I whispered for what seemed like the millionth time in the last three weeks.

I heard the soft knock at the door and Allison’s head appeared before I nodded for her to enter.

“You need to take a rest, Grace.”, She said, the moment she saw me sitting beside Zayden.

“Don’t worry about me. I am good.”

“No. You aren’t.”

I sighed and looked anywhere but her. “You can’t blame me for that, Ally. I don’t like sleeping these days. Even the medicines for flu and fever are not helping.”

It’s been approximately eighteen days since I fell sick. And trust me, something was definitely wrong with me.

‘I feel like something is happening to me.’

“You should consult the doctors instead of having medicines on your own.”, She suggested to which I nodded then averted my gaze back to Zayden.

“What if he doesn’t wake up?”, My voice was low and I didn’t look away from Zayden.

“He is strong.”, That was her short reply. It did comfort me a little. She didn’t say that Zayden would be fine. She didn’t offer any kind of hope. Just that he was strong. But even the strongest could eventually fall.

“I hate to pull you away, but since you are awake. We should start what we had started.”, I took a deep breath, knowing that it’s my training time. It all started after Zayden fell into a deep sleep.

I had barely reached the door. That’s when a man reached near Allison, whom I recognized as Alpha Craig’s Beta.

“Luna Allison, Alpha have asked to stay inside with Luna Grace and Alpha Zayden.”, He said, before bowing his head in front of her and then me.

“But why?”, She asked instead of me.

I saw the elders and the kids coming inside the packhouse in a hurry. And the expression on their faces didn’t go unnoticed by me.

“There is an attack on us, again.”, I stated instead of asking. When I saw him nodding his head, my eyes widened remembering the last attack, the one because of which Zayden was still in bed. “Alpha Craig, Eric and the others, they’re fighting?”

“Yes, I am here to guard the packhouse and you both along with Alpha Zayden. It seems like Alpha Zayden has a lot of enemies.”, As soon as he said the words banging from the front door caused everyone to jump.

“Thank you, Evan. But you don’t have to protect me. I can take care of myself but they won’t. So, I will be protecting everyone with you.”

“But Alpha strictly ordered that…”

“I don’t give a damn about that. I can’t sit here like a coward and let other people die. This is my brother’s pack and I have a few responsibilities toward it.”, Allison said in a serious tone just like Zayden. Leaving no scope of the argument.

Allison and Evan looked at each other and then proceeded to the door with caution, the banging was in rhythm meaning someone was trying to break down the doors.

I followed behind Grace glancing at the pack members who gathered around the children as they cried out in fear. Growls on the other side of the door responded to the children crying, Allison cursed under her breath before turning around to gripped my shoulders.

“I need you to open the door when I give you the go, do you understand?”, I violently shook my head not wanting that thing in here with all these people.

My heart raced at the thought of having another encounter with vampires or rouges wolves. The memories of the previous time were still fresh in my mind that they shoved fear down my throat.

“I can’t.”, I spoke barely above a whisper.

Allison shook my shoulder, meeting my eyes, “You have to or someone is going to hurt or worse.”

I stared Allison in the eyes, worried deep in them but not fear. I envied her at that moment, to have this brave face she had around her. Taking a deep breath, I looked back to the living room knowing I have to do this.

“Okay”, I gasped in shock at my reply.

Evan wasted no time to crunch in front of me, he stretched his body out like the crack of bones filling the air. I thought I had seen it all, that nothing could surprise me anymore but seeing Evan in pain as his bones broke and shifted underneath his skin sent me into a frenzy.

I shifted my gaze to Allison, she was replaced by a four-legged beast in grey fur, she stood near height as her tongue licked her snout. The growling from outside intensified and it grabbed her attention along with Evan’s, giving me one look, they stood ready at the door.

Swallowing down my fear I came in contact with the doorknob jumping back as the door banged once more. The grey and brown werewolves behind growls and I used it as an encouragement to get a grip. Opening the door, both Allison and Evan charged at a few silver-colored wolves tackling it to the ground. My full attention was on Allison and was praying for her victory.

She and her opponent started rolling, trying to pin the other but in the end, Allison ended up on the top growling at the beast below her.

The rogue under her growled, snapping its jaw at her hoping to latch on to something but Allison put the creature to silence as her mouth clamped down on its throat. I closed my eyes at the last scene of b***d though the sound alone would leave me staying awake at night. Reopening them, Allison stood on all fours, ears up back as she growled daring someone to challenge her.

Slowly I walked out of the packhouse, glancing back at the others to check if they were okay. Some silently nodded at me, answering my questions without speaking. Just as I looked back to Allison my eyes widened at the sight of the pack of three wolves staging directly at me.

The look in their eyes, the recognition told me that they were here for me, attacking everyone for me. Allison wasted no time jumping in their line of sight, those wolves growled in threat before surrounding her. I looked for Evan, he was already fighting with other wolves

Though she was outnumbered, Allison stood her ground without any hesitation. My heart pounded in my ear at the thought of her getting injured or dying to protect me, I had to do something to help her.

I watched in horror as the three of them attacked her at the same time, she yelped in pain as one of them bit into her legs, b***d splattering onto the ground.

I felt completely helpless, I didn’t know how to help Allison, I had absolutely no idea! I looked around me frantically, searching for some sort of object that could possibly help her.

My eyes rested on a silver knife that was stabbed in one of the dead person’s bodies. I knew what I had to do even though I hated doing that. I closed my eyes and asked for forgiveness from the lord and then quickly pulled the knife from that person’s dead body.

Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm my racing heart. If I wanted to save Allison, who no doubt was fighting to protect me, I needed to be thinking clearly. I swallowed down the fear and panic and tried to focus on the scene in front of me, the other wolves were no doubt winning the fight, which was expected since it was three against one. I needed to choose one of them to attack with all the strength that I had. It would at least help to have one less wolf attacking Allison.

I zeroed in the wolf who was closest to me, with its back turned so he wouldn’t see me coming from behind. Not giving myself time to back out, I got up on my feet and jumped onto the wolf, grabbing onto his fur and stabbing the knife into its side. The wolf howled in pain, trying to shake me off. I held his coat tightly and dug the knife even deeper, promising myself not to let go until he released Allison from his deadly grip. Another wolf grabbed my hair with its teeth and flung me to the side, my forehead hitting against a tree. I winced and cried in pain, feeling the b***d trickle down my face.

A loud howl ripped through the air, shaking all the trees around us with its power. I knew that howl. I knew the power. I knew that wolf. I smiled, looking at those wolves, knowing that they would be killed soon I let the darkness consume me knowing that now nothing would happen to anyone because HE WAS AWAKENED NOW.
