Claimed By My Three Alphas -
Chapter 124
Amery was in a daze. She saw herself in the middle of nowhere with nothing but trees making whooshing sound in the wind and streams running over pebbles. The birds chirped happily above her in the sky. She was seated on a fallen tree branch that was scattered across a running stream of water. Her heart was heavy and with each passing second, she felt it getting tighter as though it was about to explode. Still in her conceited thought, she heard a low growl from a distance. Terrified, turbed her face towards the sound and to her greatest surprise, she saw a white wolf seated on its haunches staring right back at her. There was something familiar about the wolf's eyes that she couldn't fathom.
It looked at her as if it knew her, as if it recognised her. Amery was lost in the wolf's blue orbs that ran deep. The more she looked at it, the more she found solace and comfort in it's stare. It took her a while to realize that she wasn't terrified as the thought she was. The wolf in question started to approach her in slow but steady strides. It gave her time to process what was happening and also to accept what it was about to do. Whenever it felt that she was a bit tense it would halt in its movement and resume walking when she felt the tension leaving her. It went on for minutes until the wolf was fully settled in Amery's presence.
Amery reached out to touch the fleece animal and it brought his face down to her her willingly. Amery felt euphoric and that's when it hit her that she had met this wolf before. It was the same wolf that had helped her back when she was trapped in Levi's realm. It appeared in her dreams and led her to safety. It was the same-it was her wolf. The new found knowledge came with sudden calmness that stirred through her nerves to offer and provide her comfort. She adjusted to what it was offering and completely basked in it's positive vibes.
Slowly, Amery felt herself becoming one with the animal and before she knew it, she woke up to find herself in her bedroom, drenched in sweat. She looked outside the window only to see that the sun had almost risen which indicated that it was almost time to get ready for school.
Amery wished that the day would roll by so that she would have to skip. She practically wasn't feeling the need to go to school after everything that had happened yesterday.
It was already twenty four hours.
That's how long it had been since she left the mansion after the fight that broke out between the two brothers. Twenty four hours had never felt so excruciatingly painful. In all her years of going through so many heartbreaks and taking a dagger to her heart, yesterday probably felt like the worst one to have ever happened to her. It didn't even hurt this much when Levi had attempted to kill her multiple times. At least with him, she had known what to expect but this...this was entirely different and heart wrenching. She had never regretted anything as much as what had happened yesterday and the worst part of everything was the fact that she couldn't stop blaming herself either.
She had thought that she might be able to fix things and make them better again but she had only made it worse. Asher hated her, Quincy told her to disappear from their lives and Levi, she didn't even know how he was feeling at this particular moment. His major goal was to take her out of the picture so she was guessing that he must be happy to have accomplished what he always wanted.
She had tried to hide herself from everyone. She didn't speak to her parents and avoided having dinner with them because she was scared that they might see right through her. She was a mess.
"Amery." Her mother's voice echoed through the hallway and filtered through her bedroom. "Wake up kid. It's time for school."
She rolled her eyes. Would it hurt if she just skipped today? The door to her bedroom creaked open and her mom walked in.
"Hey." She called out to her and sat down at the edge of the bed. Amery could feel her gaze on her even though she was facing the other side. "What's wrong?" She proceeded to ask, placing a hand on her covered body.
"Last night, you came home looking like someone whom a train had run over and to make matters worse, you didn't have dinner. Did something happen that I should know about?" Her mother inquired but only silence met her question.
"These days, it feels as if you are holding back on a lot of things from me. I want to help you my dear and I cannot do that if you won't tell me what's going on with you." She persuaded and Amery finally turned to face her. She pushed the duvet off her body and pulled herself to a sitting position.
"Everything is wrong mom." She admitted, tears stinging her eyes as she spoke. "I feel like everything around me going the opposite of what I wanted it to go and I hate it. I hate myself because I'm the cause of everything too. Why am I so different mom? Why do I stir trouble everywhere I go to? Why can't I be normal." She bawled her eyes in tears and her mother drew her closer to herself In an embrace.
"You cannot be normal my dear because normal is boring." She patted her back softly. "Amery, you're still a teenager and teenagers are bound to make mistakes. You're bound to ruin things and get into more trouble. It's part of the growth and learning process. You cannot expect things to go easily because you want it to. Life wasn't programmed that way because if it was then everyone would not have faced the same problems my love."
"It's just so hard mom. Why does it feel so hard?" She sniveled, tears falling out of her eyes rapidly.
"I never said it was going to be easy. In fact, it will only gets harder from here forward." She chriped in. "Life was designed in a way that we get to experience all the emotions at a certain point. Laughter, pain, happiness, depression... they're all part of that experience and we need each and every one of them to grow. Yes, you've made a lot of mistakes and in the future, you might still make more but it doesn't make you feel any less than the person you are. You are Amery Hunter and that is not going to change no matter how many mistakes you are going to make."
Amery felt her lips stretch into a wide grin. "I'm so glad that I got to be your daughter. I would never choose to be raised in any other family apart from this one. I love you." She professed.
"So am I and I love you too." Her mother kissed her hair affectionately. "Why don't you go shower first so that we can have breakfast as a family before you leave for school? Studies have shown that spending quality time with the people you love boosts mortality rate by ninety percent."
She chuckled. "I'd like that." She affirmed and her mother helped her to her feet.
"By the way, I saw the letter about your school's trip. Are you going?"
She shook her head negatively. "I don't know yet. I'm still trying to make up my mind. if everything turns out better before then, I might consider going but if not I will just cancel and spend the weekend at home with you guys."
"Whatever you say honey. You have my permission to go if you want to though." Her mother said in approval. "Go ahead and shower. I'll set the table now wait downstairs for you to join us." And with that, her mother walked out of her bedroom. Amery got into the bathroom and stood under the shower, letting the water roll down her body in waves. She tried to block out all thoughts of Asher and Quincy and by the time she was done, she felt a bit better and refreshed.
She stepped into her bedroom and picked out her outfit for school. She settled for a pair of baggy trousers and a hooded sweater. When she was done, she made her way downstairs to join her family for breakfast. They ate silently. Her mom was the only one who tried to engage in frequent conversations but gave up when none of them matched her energy for that morning.
Amery could barely finish her food and helped to discard the dishes in the sink.
"Do you need my help driving you to school?" Her mother offered but she turned her down.
"I'll just take the bus. It'll make me feel a lot better if I do." She gave a half smile in return.
"Are you sure? You know I can "
"I'm sure." She interrupted. "I'll be alright on my own. I'll see you after school." She kissed her cheeks before heading out of the house. Deep down in her heart of hearts, her only wish was that things wouldn't get more worse than they already were when she gets to school. Because she wouldn't be able to handle it should in case everything spirals out of control.
