Amery

The next two weeks pass by in a blur.

All four of us try to make do with what little time we have together. There hasn't been a single dull moment.

I've spent most of my evenings learning how to shift with Quincy. The first week was dreadful, downright absolute t*****e. But after breaking and realigning all the bones in my body for seven days consecutively, I grew accustomed to it. Crazy.

That's what my life has become. Some crazy fairy tale, so out of pocket sometimes, I feel like I'm watching myself experience it through rose tinted glasses. If someone had told me a year ago, that a reality existed where I could be destined to have three burly males as my partners, I would have laughed in their faces.

Better yet, If I was told that an animal is residing within me that I can turn to at will, they would have probably gotten the same reaction as well. But now, all of that is the least of the things so mind-boggling about my new reality.

I have these insane gifts, powers live become more conscious of. And every day, I leam more about myself and what I can do.

Quincy took up the position of helping me through it all. It was funny really, how we'd gotten here. Thinking back to the conversation that day, a laugh tumbles out of me.

"Nuh-uh. I ain't doing that shit." He was already walking away from me, holding his hands up by his head as called after him.

"Asher, come on!" I pout, "You were the one who helped me shift for the first time, who better to help me get an understanding of all this magical energy flowing through my body?"

"Listen," he turns back around, "I was willing to take up some more wolf training with you but Quincy's already filled up that slot. I'm going to say this carefully so you can understand." His emerald eyes sparkle as he fixes me with a serious look, "There is a big difference between me teaching how to master your wolf form and me sparring with a human shredde

I roll my eyes at the exaggeration. He's been saying that ever since I'd told the boys I wanted to learn how to control my powers. After what I did to the King's men who were chasing us, Asher wants no part in being on the receiving end of such an assault. "You're being a scaredy cat." I tease.

"Yeah," he tilts his head, "One who still has all his body parts intact.

"What's so funny?" Quincy's voice brings me back to the present, "Focus."

He walks back to the centre of the clearing, picking up the small log I was too distracted to work on. I lift a hand, bracing myself as he tosses it into the air. With a push of my palm, the log shatters mid-air, splintering to the ground in multiple pieces. "Good." Quincy nods, "Now let's try something bigger."

With his help, so far, I've already understood my abilities enough to control how I distribute it. We've only done shots of energy from my hands at relatively medium objects.

I haven't tried using my voice yet, Quincy thinks it's too risky. Were not sure how the intensity works, so theres a possibility he might get caught in the range of the effect of my scream. "That's not how you do it." Levi's voice carries through the distance.

"I know how to make a freaking trap okay," Asher says, " You just gotta tighten this part right here."

They're a little bit away from us, closer to the trees. From what I see, it looks like they're trying to create a trap so they don't have to hunt for their precious meat all the time.

Asher ties a section of rope around a thin log, ripping off the excess and tossing it at Levi. It smacks him in the chin before falling to the floor.

"See," Asher holds up whatever the thing is, "Easy peasy."

A small grin tilts the corner of Levi's mouth.

A lot of things changed after the day with the seer, between the four of us. Our dynamic seems to have rotated on its axis, a full three sixty.

The boys don't bicker nearly as much as before. Asher and Levi most especially have been getting along so well.

We all know that my nineteenth birthday isn't for another two weeks. But we're still aware that we're running out of time. I decided that I was going to wait until the very last minute. I want to milk every second with them for as long as Ican. "Focus!" Quincy grumbles.

"I'm sorry," I laugh.

Much later in the day, Levi and I stroll through the town square, trying to stock up on some supplies. I've insisted on following him wherever he goes now. I like the atmosphere.

Its always packed with people and activity. The place is so chaotic, children running left and right, bumping into your legs without abandon. Wolves engaging in duels just for the sake of entertainment, drinking and gossip trailing after you no matter where you turn. It's a mess. But it's lovely to see. They don't belong to a pack, they're just out here, living life to the fullest.

Levi's disappeared somewhere, and I'm left alone to walk around in the meantime. It's the reason I follow him anyway.

"Pretty miss." I feel a tug on my skirt. Looking down, I startle at the little girl, her wide eyes staring up at me. A toothy grin takes up the length of her face once she has my attention.

I lean down, so were at eye level, "Hey there. Do you need something?"

She shakes her head, holding up a small piece of paper between us, "For you pretty miss."

My brows lift, "For me?"

She nods excitedly. Smiling, I take the paper from her, opening it up.

And then my blood runs cold.

There's a way to break the curse,

I can be of help to you.

My eyes lift to the girl's. She's still staring at me with a wide grin on her face. I continue reading.

You must act fast,

before the next full moon.

If you are willing to accept my assistance,

return to the human realm, to your family home.

There I will come find you.

Know that you must come alone,

It reads,

Your mates are too cautious and will

halt the process of things.

If you wish to save those boys,

you would do well to believe in me.

There isn't much time, so leave as soon

as you can.

-C.

The next full moon is in two days.

"Where did you get this?" I ask her, my voice shaking. Hope blooms inside me, threatening to rip me at the seams. Is there really a way to save them?

She looks over my shoulder, and seconds later, I hear footsteps coming up behind us. Looking over my shoulder, I notice Levi approaching us, his eyes narrowed cautiously.

I turn to face the girl, she presses a finger to her mouth in a shushing motion, before turning and bolting away.

"Who was that?" Levi asks.

I stare at her retreating figure, the piece of paper crumpled in my palm leaving a burning imprint.

"What did she want?"

I rise to my feet slowly, trying to regulate my breathing." Nothing," I lie, "She wanted to tell me she thought I was pretty."

Levi's eyes trail over my face, but he doesn't question it further, and we make our way back to the cabin.

My head is foggy during the entire walk. If there's a possible way out of the prophecy, then I have to give it a shot. And I know it could prove risky, but I can't bring the boys into this. Whoever sent the letter is right, they're too skeptical.

"Are you listening to me?"

Levi's voice interrupts my thoughts. I turn to look at him," Sorry, what?"

He purses his lips, lifting a hand to the back of his neck.

After a moment, he says, "I said there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about."

"Oh."

I've barely had any one-on-one conversations with Levi ever since the night we both confessed.our feelings once again.

It's been one thing after another, and with everything that happened since then, it never really felt like there was much to say.

Were standing in front of the cabin when he turns to look at me. His jaw is tight, working in a way that tells me he's trying to gather his thoughts. Read more novels at FindNovel.net. "What is it?" I ask softly, touching his arm.

He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes. Hell, it's more of a grimace. And then he says, "I'm in love with you."

I suck in a sharp breath. It's not the first time I've heard it, nor the second, or third. But it's still the same reaction he gets every time. How such simple words can make you feel so many different emotions all at once. A heavy weight settles over my heart He shifts his weight on his feet, lifting his gaze to the night sky. Shaking his head, he stares down at me once again, "1 love you so much, Amery."

Why is he saying this now?

Why does he feel the need to tell me this at this very moment?

"Levi-"

He holds up a hand to stop me, "Just let me get this out okay? It's hard enough as it is."

"I love you, Amery," He continues, "In a way I never thought! could. I never thought I'd be able to feel such intense emotions for anyone ever." He stops, inhaling deeply through his nose, "And it's because I love you," he says, " That I can't be selfish with you." Im holding my breath, hating the way I already know what he plans to say next.

"Don't choose me," it's a whisper. His voice cracks on the last word, "I love you, but I don't want you to choose me."

He wipes away the tear that slips from the corner of my eye, cradling my face in his hand. I lean into the touch, trying to steady my racing heart.

Oh, Levi.

He holds my face in both hands, those grey orbs sucking me into their depths. His lips part, as he leans in. My eyes slide shut the moment I feel his lips on mine, kissing me slowly, softly.

My fingers press into his forearms, digging into his skin as he rests his forehead on mine.

We stay here, frozen in this moment for a long while.
