Claimed By My Three Alphas -
Epilogue 2
You need to stop fidgeting."
"But this dress is so itchy." Amery tugged at the neck of her tunic gown. She'd never been dressed so formally in her life.
Emelda, her mother, stood by her side. "Well, what would you have preferred to wear?" Her smile was contagious as she stared down at her pouting daughter, "Sneakers and sweats?"
"No," Amery sighed, "But is all this necessary?"
Of course, it was. It was the Triplets' birthday.
And also, the Kings' coronation.
Well... technically, it was her coronation as well. She still couldn't wrap her head around that.
Ever since she'd decided that the werewolf realm was where she wanted to live, where she felt like she truly belonged, trepidation ate at her.
Chewed her raw.
These same people shunned her parents and cast them aside. Who's to say they were willing to treat her any differently? And they were ever so willing to present her head on a silver platter when King Killian set out that bounty- But things didn't pan out that way
Somehow, they were easy to accept the truth of her existence and history the same way they gave into the false narratives all those years ago.
Things worked out way beyond her expectations.
Apparently, she was a hero.
The girl who restored the balance. The girl who saved the Heirs to the throne. And as of today, the girl who saved their Kings.
"You know you don't have to do this." She says to her mother, "You really don't have to be here if you don't want to be. I know it must be hard for you."
Showing her face once again in the pack that turned on her, for practically nothing? Amery would be way too insulted to brave through it.
"Nonsense," Emelda waved her off, "And what? Miss your big day?"
Her relationship with her birth mother had grown in the weeks following the funeral. Her human mom chose to remain detached from this side of Amery's life, and honestly, she couldn't even fault her.
She would always love Amery, and Amery would always be welcome home. But this life? The life she was introduced to so brutally? The woman wanted no part of it.
And Amery couldn't even blame her. She completely understood
"I'm sweating so much, I'm going to ruin all my make-up."
Emelda ran her hands over the thick material of Amery's tunic dress, stepping back and clasping her hands in front of her.
"You look spectacular dear, I'm so proud of you."
Amery turned to her Mother, offering up a watery smile. The words touched something deep inside her. If she was being honest, she was beyond proud of herself too. "Thanks, Mom."
Emelda's eyes shone with tears, the same way they always did whenever Amery called her that.
A knock sounded at the door, seconds later, a young woman with a sleek blonde bob poked her head into the
room.
She smiled at the two women, "It's time."
Emelda clasped her hands together, unable to contain her excitement.
That made one of them.
Taking a deep breath, Amery let a smile spread over her face. There was no reason to be nervous. Today was a good day "You're ready?" Emelda asked
She nodded, "Ready as I'll ever be.
The walk to the courtyard wasn't long enough. Amery tried to regulate her breathing as best as she could in the suffocating dress. Once she stepped through the foyer, her eyes sought out her mates. There was that breath of air.
And she thought they looked good in tuxedos.
Their tunics were made of the same rich fabric as hers, collars and buttons embroidered in gold. Quincy in red, Asher in Blue, and Levi wearing white. Golden crowns already resting heavily on all their heads. She fought the urge to cry.
"I'll be right here watching you," Emelda whispered in her ear, pressing a delicate kiss to the side of her head before moving to blend into the audience.
And what an audience it was. The entirety of the seven kingdoms, gathered here in one place to witness the succession of their new rulers.
She walked through the makeshift aisle, freshly plucked flowers spread on the trail to the dais. The closer she got to the podium, the less she wanted to turn and run away. Her mates were right in front of her, why would she ever go in the other direction? She dropped to a crouch at the healer's request, hovering close to the ground while he placed a smaller, more feminine crown of gold over her head.
The crowd erupted.
God, don't cry.
Rising to her feet, Levi offered a hand to help her up to the stand. He pulled her to stand in front of him, in the centre of the three men. His hand moved to rest at the base of her neck, thumb ghosting gently over her marks. Their marks.
Quincy shot her a knowing glance.
"High time I stopped calling you princess, huh?" Asher said with a grin, moving to stand closer to them.
In front of the raging masses, they stood like royalty.
After all, they were.
The kings of the seven kingdoms. And she was their Queen.
