Claiming My Wolf
Chapter 11

~~Micah’s PoV~~

As soon as I offer to answer Sadie’s questions, Ava scowls at me. “We don’t need any help from you, Micah.”

In spite of that, Sadie turns around and eyes me curiously. “Wait. I want to hear what he has to say.”

That surprises me. She’s been fighting with me all day… okay, to be fair, only after I told her off first… and now suddenly she wants to hear me out? She must really be desperate for answers.

And I think she should have them too. Maybe then she’ll realize why she isn’t the same as us, and why she shouldn’t give me that look, the one that says that I’m not good enough for her.

The look that makes me want to slap her and k**s her at the same time.

I open my mouth to answer her, ignoring Ava’s frantic head shaking and arm waving, but then I hear my name being called from down the hall.

“Micah, come here.”

It’s my dad, so I have to obey. I give Sadie a shrug. “Sorry. I guess it’ll have to wait. But come find me after school if you really want to know the truth.”

The idea of seeing Sadie alone after school gets me way more excited than it should. I try to think about unsexy things as I walk over to where my dad and the rest of his team are waiting so they don’t notice the bulge in my pants.

“What’s going on?” I ask as I walk up to the group. “Who attacked us?”

My dad gestures with his head to one of the classrooms and I peer through the window in the door. There’s a man in there, naked and restrained. He must be the wolf that I’d heard in the school. But why anyone would want to attack the school is a total mystery to me. There’s nothing valuable in here.

“He’s not talking,” my dad says. “Yet.”

His mouth twists upward and I know he’s thinking about all the ways he might make him talk. My dad is good at a lot of things, but breaking people is his favorite. He’s shown me some of the tools he uses, and to be honest, they made me feel a little sick. Not that I could tell him that, of course. I pretended I thought it was just as cool as he does.

I’ve got no problem with ripping a wolf’s throat out if it’s coming at me in a fight, but pulling a guy’s claws out when he’s tied up? Not really the same thing.

But I’d never say that to my dad, of course. I don’t want him thinking I’m weak.

“What do you need from me?” I ask. There must be a reason he called me over.

“What do you know about that half-breed girl?” he asks, giving a little sneer as he points down the hall to where Sadie was. I turn to look for her, but she and Ava are gone.

My heart beats a little faster. He doesn’t suspect anything about the weird things I’ve been thinking about her, does he? How could he?

“Not much,” I say, trying to sound casual. “She’s the Millers’ cousin, her parents died, she doesn’t know she’s a wolf. Just the same things we were all told at the assembly.”

He nods, and I can’t help asking.

“Why?”

My dad looks back at the tied-up wolf. “He was trying to get in the room where she and the Miller girl were hiding. I don’t know if it was on purpose. I’ll find out from him, of course, but I just thought I’d see if you knew anything that might be special about her.”

Special? Sadie’s face flashes in front of me again, her dark chocolate eyes and her dark hair framing her oval face. That sexy look of defiance on her face.

For f**k’s sake, I’m getting hard again.

“Not that I’ve seen,” I answer, then try to change the subject. “Do you think it’s got anything to do with what’s going on at the other packs?”

He gives me a disapproving look. “What would it have to do with that?”

My cheeks start to color. I hate when he talks to me like I’m an i***t. “I don’t know exactly, I just thought since they’re happening at the same time…”

“Lots of things happen at the same time, Micah.” His voice is cold and mocking, and I can’t bring myself to look at the other warriors. Why can’t he ever, just once, say I might have a point?

“I’m sorry, sir.”

He nods curtly. “You’re dismissed. Get back to class.”

I grumble as I make my way back down the hall. He never takes what I say seriously. He treats me like a f*****g child still, but I’m 18 now, I’ve got my own wolf, I should be part of his team and defending the pack and investigating the attacks, getting read to take over as Beta, not stuck in some stupid class learning stuff I’ll never use.

My Geography class goes very slowly but finally it’s time for the last class of the day, which is Chemistry. I walk quicker than usual to get there, and I only realize when I get to the door that it’s because I know Sadie’s in the class too. But when I look around, she’s not there yet. My other classmates shuffle in, one by one or in pairs, until there’s only two empty seats left.

Sadie’s and Logan’s.

Logan isn’t a huge surprise, he often misses class for no reason, and after that attack earlier, he’s probably got stuff to do. I bet my dad doesn’t make fun of him if he makes a suggestion, I think bitterly.

But that’s not what’s really bothering me right now. Where’s Sadie? Did Ava end up telling her the truth?

And does that mean she won’t be coming to see me after school after all?

I’m way more disappointed about that than I should be. Scowling, I look up at the clock. Another f*****g hour to go. This day can’t be over soon enough.
