Amelia's

POV

I exit my guest room after I've showered and changed, to find Jackson and Danika waiting in the hall for me, and we head down to breakfast together. I remember my early morning activities, and decide I better say something about it before we are somewhere where others might overhear our conversation.

"I hope I didn't wake you too early this morning..." I say, and watch as Jackson turns beet red in embarrassment.

"It was... fine..." Jackson says, sounding exceedingly uncomfortable. "A little warning might be nice nex Next time. I suddenly realize there probably won't ever be a next time. "Don't think like that," Jackson demands, stepping up with some ideas. "I'll go get breakfast while you pull yourself together. Danika and I will contact the other officers, and we will get together to go over the plans that are in place, and make whatever changes are necessary. And I don't think DeeDee has been informed about Leo, so that needs to be done and she ch over him today and keep us updated."

He turns to Danika and asks her to stay with me while he brings back breakfast. I admit that was completely unfair to Jackson, but at that time I didn't know Jackson could tell what I was doing. And this morning I was with Leo.

"Well, that explains why he woke me up so early this morning," Danika says. "But that must have been very hard for him to endure before. Especially with him being a virgin at the time!"

"Wait! Hold on!" I say, completely shocked. "He was a virgin? Oh, goddess! Now I feel even worse!"

"You didn't know? Danika asks in disbelief. "He told me he was saving himself for me, his mate."

"Hmm," I ponder. "I thought I knew him better than that. I wonder what else I don't know about him?

"Well, he has a mole on his butt in the shape of a heart!" She tells me, and I gasp! "Even when he's shifted, it's a slightly darker grey spot on his rump."

"I guess I've never really looked that closely at his butt." I muse. "And I've seen it plenty. Back when I was young and he was the future Beta, he was the trainer for my age group. He would always shift for training the kids who had already shifted. But I only ever had eyes for Leo, with his dark broody looks and his bright sapphire eyes."

"Jackson was a future Beta?" Danika asks, surprised, right as Jackson opens the door. "What happened?"

"Leo messed up and became Alpha to this pack is what happened," Jackson grumbles, as he enters the room with a cart laden with food. "So I got saddled with the Princess here, as well demoted by my alpha."

"Aww, but you've been a wonderful Gamma!" I praise him, "Remember when you saved me from kidnapping? Or when you told me me I was making a mistake with the Prince. Or the uh... help... you gave me when I was in heat?" "What help?" Danika is growling. "You told me you were a virgin!"

"I am! I mean, I was!" Jackson shouts as he begins to get flustered. "I'm just going to go fling myself off the balcony now!"

"Danika, sweetie, I'm only messing with him." I confide. "The help he gave was a vibrating dildo that his sister Haley gave him as a joke."

Slightly mollified, she sits down and we all begin to eat breakfast. Silent, for the most part. I guess I had taken my joke a little far, and the room was filled with tension. I only eat a few bites before I'm back to fretting about Leo.

After Jackson and Danika are done with breakfast and have cajoled me into eating half of my French toast, we head back to the medical clinic to check up on Leo.

I had been gone for only a little over an hour, but Leo's condition was deteriorating rapidly. At this point his fever was getting high and he was sweating profusely. His wound was becoming infected, despite the doctor's efforts to keep it clean and sterilized regularly. Beta Raghu was already in the room, looking pensive. "I wish I had not been ordered out of the gymnasium last night. I would have fought them by his side!"

"What good would that have done?" Jackson asks, "then there would have been 2 deaths. Yours and Leo's."

"Hey Raghu," Leo says, coming partially awake. "Make sure Amelia is sent stargazer lilies. They are her favorite."

"Certainly, Alpha!" The Beta responds.

"He's started hallucinating, hasn't he?" Jackson asks no one in particular. "That's not a good sign."

"No, it's not." Raghu agrees.

"Jackson..." Leo says, sounding hoarse. "Would you take care of Amelia for a few weeks? There's no one I trust with her more than you."

"Sure, Leo. Anything you want," Jackson says, before he sits down in the one side chair placed in the room, and everyone pretends not to notice as he covers his eyes as he begins to cry. He and Leo had been friends since kindergarten. I'm pleased when I see Danika go over and offer what comfort she can. "Raghu," I say turning to the Beta. "Would you please inform DeeDee of what's happened, and bring her here? And then we need a battle plan to get thru the rest of the day." "Yes, Luna."

"Oh, Amelia!" Leo says brightly. "You're here,too! Good. Come over here and meet my dad."

Leo beckons me over, but there is no one there to meet. Leo's father Johnathan Hart has been dead for 18 years.

"Isn't she beautiful, dad, just like I said." Leo beams, his eyes keep glancing to his right.

"Ummm, hi!"

"Dad tells me we are going to have twins!" Leo says, sounding momentarily as if he is completely lucid. I suddenly feel the need to sit down, which I do on the edge of the bed. I take his hand in mine, trying to keep a firm grip on reality. "You don't mind if I bring Lance along with me, do you? I don't want to be an only child again. I was so lonely." "Why would I mind? The more the merrier." I say, not sure exactly what I was agreeing to.

"I think you will mind, at first... and I'm worried about that," Leo says, looking like he's about to drift off to sleep again. "I won't see...you again...for nine...months..."

Then DeeDee arrives along with my mom, and we leave for the Alphas office as DeeDee sobs over her son.
