Maja’s attention snapped to the conversation as she caught a glimpse of the exchange. Walter caught her eye and raised an

eyebrow with a slight grin, “So, Beck told me you guys are heading to Forbidden Island?” She nodded. That was the address

Eric had given her, and she’d been digging around for information, but the trail was cold. Walter’s fingers were playing with a slip

of paper, his demeanor cool and collected. “Turns out I might have a lead that could help you out.” Maja’s eyes lit up, “Thanks.”

“Don’t mention it. You’re Dylan’s little sister, which makes you my little sister too.” He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

Just like Beck had said, a smiling tiger. She didn’t respond to that, instead focusing on the clues listed on the paper. Walter’s info

was a game-changer and the kind of stuff they couldn’t find online. Handing the paper to Ian, Maja noticed the recognition

between him and Walter, though they pretended to be strangers. Clearly, they had crossed paths in North America, and it wasn’t

as friends. “Ian?” Maja called out, sensing the tension. Ian didn’t say much, just pulled her closer. As they were about to leave,

Tomas spoke up, his gaze shifting between Ian and Eric. “Test subjects, test subjects, all test subjects.” “One succeeds, one’s

discarded, test subjects.” His words cast a chilling air over the room. It was then Patric burst out, “Shut up!” His head was

pounding, a cacophony of voices screaming in his mind, flashes of scenes he couldn’t quite catch. Damn it, he couldn’t

remember it. Ignoring everyone else, he staggered to the door, as if escaping a torturous presence. The others looked to Ian,

who blinked and chuckled, “Why look at me?” Maja frowned, her grip on Ian tightening. Ian patted her head reassuringly, “It’s all

nonsense. We’ll rest up for a day, then head to Forbidden Island, and take Patric with us.” Maja was uneasy but nodded

anyway. Ian swept her up in his arms and as he walked to the door, the impostor spoke again. “Escaped, he escaped, all of

them, both of them.” “I want to escape too, so bad.” His words were so creepy that Beck couldn’t help himself and slammed his

fist into his face. “Shut up you!” The impostor looked up, staring at Ian’s back as if he couldn’t feel pain, but rather a numbness.

Ian wrapped his arm around her, guiding her to the car where a pale and weakened Patric sat in the back seat. As Maja stared

out the window, her heart was a tumult of nerves. Ian reached over and held her hand, “Don’t worry about it. Maybe Eric and I

just look alike.” She looked down, “I’ve been hypnotized by K before. I know what it’s like. Those two were more than hypnotized,

and they’ve been experimented on. I wish we knew what kind of experiments.” Patric piped up from the backseat, “Blame Eric for

that. He knows but says nothing. Serves him right. He deserves whatever he gets.” He lay back, his head throbbing, reaching up

to the ceiling. His wrist, exposed, was a patchwork of needle marks. He had called out to Eric in his mind countless times, but it

was as if the man had vanished. Panic set in suddenly, the fear that Eric might have truly disappeared. Why? Was the realization

of meeting fellow test subjects too much to bear? He couldn’t tell..
