Divorced Heiress
I am Not A Contract Chapter 15

In Doinel, Bastian was doing his work in the finance department and, at the same time, finishing supervising the last batch of garments from the collaboration with Innova and LC that Abby had left pending for distribution.

But the dark-haired man, delighted with life, was helping him for the day that he wouldn't be attending, to save him work for when he returned

He was so concentrated and truly dedicated to making everything perfect and without the slightest error that he hadn't even realized that a call from Julian was coming in on his cellphone, which he had put on silent mode since the first minute he arrived at the company.

After making sure Abby's work was finished, with an unconscious and genuine smile on his face, he looked at the screen of his cellphone and couldn't help but notice the five missed calls from Julian.

Immediately, Bastian thought there was an emergency at L&J, seeing such insistence with which he had been called almost twenty minutes ago. And just as he was about to return the call, Jane's name appeared on his screen. She was calling him.

His brow furrowed, feeling completely bewildered. He didn't expect his ex-girlfriend to call him at that moment.

In fact, Bastian never expected a single call from Jane since he found out she was going to get engaged to another man after leaving him with a broken heart, throwing away all his plans for life. And still, she sent him an invitation to her wedding as if his feelings didn't matter at all.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Bastian decided to answer Janes call, mostly out of curiosity. He wanted to know the reason for her unexpected call.

"Hello, Jane," Bastian's greeting was so sharp and cold that, on the other side of the line, the woman stood still and briefly questioned if she was doing the right thing by calling her ex-boyfriend at that moment.

Quickly, Jane remembered the reason why she was calling and cleared her throat before speaking. The last thing she wanted was to sound uncertain, especially at that precise moment when she had made up her mind to talk to Bastian.

"Bastian, long time no see," Jane's voice sounded confident, as she used to be, but the truth was that nerves were bubbling inside her and she nearly bit her thumbnail out of anxiety.

Upon hearing Jane's words, Bastian moved his cellphone away to look at it, completely confused, as if he could see her from there.

He couldn't deny that the call seemed strange to him, and even more so, the response he received from that woman.

He didn't intend to prolong the conversation, especially when he was worried about Julian's missed calls.

"Yes? It doesn't seem that way to me," Bastian replied, recalling the day he saw her with her fiancé at the L&J inauguration.

"Sorry, Jane; but I'm very busy at the moment. Tell me the reason for your call, I don't have much time."

Bastian's unexpected response caught Jane off guard. She brushed a lock of hair behind her ear, in a moment when her nerves were replaced by a wave of irritation.

Busy? You have no time? There was always time for me, Jane thought, swallowing the harsh words she had on the tip of her tongue.

"Oh, my apologies if I interrupted you. It would be better if I talk to you at another time when you're less busy," Jane spoke with cordiality, when in reality she was boiling inside, and her face immediately reflected how much she disliked his response, luckily he couldn't see her.

If there was anyone who knew how to manipulate Bastian Lefebvre, it was Jane.

Of course, she wasn't going to end the call until she got what she wanted, and she knew how to achieve it despite his response feigning disinterest, as if her ex-boyfriend's indifferent words didn't bother her at all.

Bastian closed his eyes for a few seconds and pinched the bridge of his nose. He had the urge to hang up and end the call right there, but he couldn't be so rude.

To him, it would be very impolite on his part to leave her hanging.

"No, no, okay, Jane. Tell me, why is your call?" Bastian asked after a tired sigh, hoping Jane would be brief.

On the other side of the line, Jane could not help but smile with satisfaction.

Once again, she got what she wanted

"Well, Bastian, it's no secret that before being engaged, we were very good friends, and the truth is... god, I don't feel well, I have no one to talk to, you're the only person i can trust... I understand that maybe you're with your girlfriend and you don't have time. I just wanted to know if you could come, I really need you."

soon, Jane stopped sounding confident and spoke as she did in the beginning, her voice seemed as if she were miserable.

She didn't wait to take advantage and pulled out the letter she had hidden up her sleeve, it was now or never.

Bastian was more confused than at the beginning, he didn't understand at all what was happening with this woman and much less why she mentioned his "girlfriend", the truth is that she didn't sound very well, her trembling voice almost broke.

Without knowing in detail what tormented Jane, Bastian meditated for a few seconds on whether it was a good idea to go with her and help her with whatever was affecting her so much, but he didn't need to think too much, he knew how sensitive she has always been and he also knew how to calm her down, or at least that's what he knew in the past.

"Where are you?" Bastian asked without further ado and immediately walked towards the elevator that would take him to the underground parking lot to find his car.

I'll arrive, calm her down, and leave, Bastian repeated to himself in his mind, as he walked waiting for Janes response, who relaxed her muscles upon hearing that question and fell onto the couch.

"I'm in my apartment, you know which one it is, the guard will let you in. I'll be waiting for you." Jane responded, looking disdainfully at her nails with a half-smile.

When Bastian heard the meeting place, he abruptly stopped his steps without realizing that some workers were walking behind him and almost collided with his back. He took a breath, filling his lungs, and closed his eyes feeling the heaviness in his body. How is it possible that Jane summoned him to that place?

Right in that apartment that he himself had given her months before she left him with a broken heart and that she surely now enjoyed with her new partner.

"Jane..." Bastian was about to tell her that it was not a good idea for him to even set foot in that place, the last thing he wanted to do in his life was to go back to that apartment, but Jane was one step ahead and interrupted him before he could refuse to go, just as she had imagined.

"Bastian, thank you, you've always been so good." Jane said softly, without erasing the smile of satisfaction from obtaining what she wanted without much effort, just a quick show and she had him agreeing to any request.

Without giving him time to say another word, Jane ended the call, leaving Bastian astonished with the phone still against his ear and his mouth open in surprise.
