Don't Try to Escape, My Wife! -
Chapter 1565 Martin Talked About the Past
"What? You can't tell me about it?"
Samuel smiled coldly, gazing at Martin's eyes.
There was no need for Martin to hide it from them anymore.
"I was part of it, so what? I just let out some information, and what and how others would do were out of my control."
Samuel glowered at him.
"So, you are the one who finds the mine first?"
"Kind of."
Martin didn't deny.
Samuel took a step forward, and continued, "Why did you not develop it yourself? On the contrary, you leaked out the information, for what?"
"Because the Harper Town is very difficult to deal with, and I myself don't like troubles."
His answer was rather farfetched.
"What you try to say is the Harper Town's bugs, right? As far as I know, you are good at bugs too. You learn it from the Harper Town, don't you?"
These questions made Martin feel a bit anxious.
"What? I am right?"
Samuel was suspicious of it all the time. The past master of the Harper Town was pretty prudent, and would not leak out such an important message to other families, even if he knew about the mine. But how could Martin learn about it?
If Martin learnt it from an outsider, how did the outsider know it?
Most importantly, Martin had bugs!
And it was the exact reason why Samuel suspected him!
The bug of the Harper Town was one of a kind, and was way far noxious than bugs raised by people, who came from another town. However, when Morgan Clarkson treated Aiden Mathews who was poisoned she found out that the way he was poisoned was almost the same as people from the Harper Town would do.
That's why Samuel would guess so, and he was right about it.
Martin seemed to want to stop this topic, but Samuel kept it on.
"If you really are a member of the Harper Town, since now I am the master of the town, you should show me your respect, shouldn't you?"
Being provoked by a man who was as young as his grandson, Martin looked terribly embarrassed.
"Shit! If it wasn't for Alice Harper, you have been a dead man already. Now, how dare you ask me to respect you? Who the hell are you?"
"So, you do admit that you are one of the Harper Towns. But I was wondering, why is your first name Close, while everyone from the Harper Town is just Harper?"
Martin looked even more anxious when hearing such a query.
"Why is your name Green then, since they are all Harpers?"
Samuel had a sudden enlightenment.
Perhaps Martin's mother was from the Harper Town, but his father wasn't, just like Samuel.
But if that was the case, it would be though-provoking.
"The Harper Town do not allow marriage with other towns."
"So, after my father was killed, my mother raised me alone."
Martin hated the rule very much.
Since things had come to such a situation, if Samuel really wanted to know the truth, it wouldn't be an issue to tell him all about it.
"My mother did nothing but just fell in love with a man, and my father also agreed to marry into and live in the Harper Town. However, after my birth, my father was hoping that I could have his family name, and the master of the Harper Town rejected it, and thought an outsider had no right to change his own son's family name. My mother was punished because she was trying to help my father. My father was upset about it and argued with the master, but was beaten to death. Instead of burying his body, they threw it in the wild for the wolves to eat. My mother was so distressed that she passed out for times when crying. She was helpless. My grandfather showed no pities and even called me bastard. He is not my family anymore from then on."
Martin looked dreadful when he spoke of the past.
Samuel didn't want to judge it, for it was happening in a different age. And the Harper Town did forbid marriage with outsiders because of the existence of bugs. So, it was hard to say what was right and what was wrong.
Noticing Samuel was speechless, Martin smiled coolly, and said, "My parents were guilty because they broke the rule, but me? I was just a little kid, and had no rights to decide my birth, what had I done wrong? But the master of the Harper Town expelled me out of the town, saying I was an outsider. After that, I had to leave my mother, and had never seen her again, even when she died. A master so pitiless like him, do you think he deserves to live on in the world?"
"I know the secret of the Harper Town is the mine. They never spoke before outsiders, but I learned it anyway. Maybe they thought that I was just a kid, and couldn't understand and remember it. But I did. So, I think this is a destiny. I hate people of the Harper Town, all of them, so I want to ruin everything of it. However, after I learned how to poison with bugs, my mother told me about the bug inside my body would have me killed if I tried to poison people from the Harper Town. I hate them, and I want them all to die, but I can't do it myself, so what am I supposed to do? All I can do is to borrow a knife from others."
"At that time, I heard that Leo Freeman from Country R was ambitious and was harboring evil intentions, but was lacking in money. So, I decided to contact Leo's friend, Edward Oliver. Do you know who this Edward is?"
Samuel shook his head subconsciously.
Martin had kept this secret for years, and it was pretty painful. There were things he never told others and also didn't want to talk about, but today, he already turned on the gas. He didn't detest Samuel, so he said smilingly, "Edward is the father of Nicole's grandmother, the king of Country S."
Country S was a small country, like Country R, but its king was pretty content with things as they were. As long as there was no invasion, he just muddled along. And the people of the country were peace- loving.
Samuel had never expected that Vanessa Oliver, Nicole's grandmother, was a princess, and he was dumbstruck.
"Are you serious?"
"There is no need for me to lie to you!"
Thinking of the past, Martin looked a little emotional.
"Edward loved peace, and he was good to Freeman. They were very good friends, although they were in different ages. He even wanted to marry his beloved daughter to Freeman to unite two countries by marriage. But Vanessa had no feelings for Freeman, so he gave up. By the way, Vanessa is Nicole's grandmother, the only princess of Country S."
Speaking of this woman, Martin's eyes was full of gentleness.
"Vanessa was kind and gentle. She had dreams, she wanted to travel out of the Country S and whoever had married her could inherit everything of the country as the son-in-law of the king. I needed funds and power, so I approached her, put her in danger and rescued her by myself, and finally, she fell in love with me as I wished."
By this point, Martin's eyes were getting soulful, as if her name reminded him of the woman he loved.
If Samuel didn't know what bad things Martin had done, he might think he was a good man.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
