BOOK6 Chapter1

Juliana Shaffer sat quietly in the living room, her gaze blankly staring out the window.

She knew that the first thing Stanley Brock would do upon returning home was to come and confront her.

But this time was different from before. Her heart had already been shattered by

the scene in that video.

The door opened, and Stanley walked in, his face showing anger.

He walked straight up to Juliana, his dissatisfaction evident.

"You didn't answer the phone or reply to my messages. Juliana, haven't you figured out your place?"

His voice carried anger, but also a hint of exhaustion.

Juliana looked up at him, her eyes filled with indifference.

She knew his anger was not about the missed calls and messages but about the video she had seen by accident.

In that video, Stanley was seen holding Amelia Roach tightly, who was crying. It was a gesture of heartfelt comfort, a care that went beyond normal colleague relationships.

"I understand my place." Juliana's voice was calm to the point of being emotionless. "I just didn't expect you to be like this."

meant. "What are you talking about? There's nothing between Amelia and me!" 10:42

"Really?" Juliana's gaze turned sharp. "Then tell me, what was going on in that video?"

Stanley fell silent for a moment, knowing he couldn't justify himself.

"It was just..."

"Just an accident?" Juliana interrupted him, "Have you forgotten our vows?"

"I..." Stanley was at a loss for words. He had never expected things would turn out

this way.

Juliana stood up and walked toward the mirror slowly.

In the mirror, she saw a woman weakened by illness, her complexion pale, and her body emaciated.

"Look at me now," she said softly, "Do you think anyone would still like me like

this?"

An indescribable emotion surged in Stanley's heart. He wanted to go up and comfort her, but Juliana's cold expression stopped him.

"Don't come near," her voice trembled slightly, "I'm afraid I'll dirty your eyes."

Those words were like a sharp knife, piercing Stanley's heart.

He instinctively took a step forward, but Juliana's sudden force pushed him away.

"Don't touch me!" she nearly screamed the words.

Stanley was caught off guard by the unexpected push and fell to the ground.

He looked up incredulously at Juliana, filled with confusion and anger.

"What are you doing? Amelia knew she was wrong. She had had no parents and 1012 O

no friends since childhood. What's wrong with her relying on me?"

"Relying?" Juliana sneered, "Then why was she hiding in your arms, crying?"

"It's just..." Stanley tried to explain, but Juliana interrupted him.

"Actually, I've always known it."

Juliana's voice became unusually calm,

"From the first day she came to the company, you paid extra attention to her. You said she was clumsy and didn't even know where to find the files, but there's always a hint of a smile in your eyes."

Stanley's heart raced. He had never expected Juliana to notice all this. "You... How did you..."

"Do you

think I know nothing about it?" Juliana forced a smile. "That day when you talked about her while I was chopping vegetables, I accidentally cut my finger, but you didn't even notice. "That was when I realized your concern for her went far beyond what was

normal."

"But..." Stanley tried to argue, but Juliana shook her head.

"I don't have the strength to fight anymore." Her voice revealed deep exhaustion. "You know what? Actually... actually, I'm dying."

The words shocked Stanley, leaving him frozen. "What did you say?" He could hardly believe his ears.

Juliana turned to face him, her eyes full of tears. "Stanley, I'm running out of time."
