Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) -
Chapter 110
Bridget clenched her teeth, stubbornly refusing to speak. The blade glided across Miriam's skin.
Tears streaming down her face, Bridget tried to change the subject, "Sylvia, please, stop this. I know this is hard for you to accept, but my mom is innocent."
Miriam screamed. "Bridget! Save me! She's lost it!"
Her cheeks flushed with distress as she cried inconsolably, yet she refused to admit any fault on her mother's behalf. It showed just how deceptive she could be.
Everyone had known Bridget for over three years, and seeing her perform flawlessly now, they didn't know who to believe.
That's when Tristan raised his voice. "Sylvia, have you lost your mind? Let Mrs. Simpson go. Do you really think a fake recording can fool everyone?"
His words didn't just wound Sylvia; they cut deep into Edwin. At his age, hearing his father prefer to trust a stranger over his own flesh and blood was too much. His face flushed beet red with anger. "Dad! It's all true!"
"Shut it! Is that any way to speak? Sylvia, get out!" Tristan wouldn't hear any more.
Sylvia snickered. "Oh, really, Tristan? You don't believe me? Check your phone, I just sent you something interesting."
Sylvia leaned closer to Miriam, whispering sinisterly, "Mrs. Simpson, seems like your daughter doesn't want to save you. Let me tell you something, I was just diagnosed with a mental illness. Stress doesn't sit well with me. I could kill you right now, and it wouldn't even count as a crime- just a temporary confinement. Heh..."
Tristan checked his phone, his expression turning sour as he saw the evidence.
Her laughter sent chills down Miriam's spine. When Sylvia pressed the knife against her skin, Miriam knew Sylvia was serious about killing her. Seeing Bridget remain silent, Miriam had no choice but to defend herself. "The recording is real!"
The room erupted in shock, Bridget's face a mix of emotions, even seeming to blame Miriam. The next second, Sylvia collapsed backwards. Rupert caught her, leaning to whisper just for her, "Quite the performance, though it seemed spiced with a bit of personal vendetta, didn't it?" Sylvia almost lost her composure. He... how did he know everything?
To avoid suspicion, Sylvia 'woke up' a minute later.
Bridget, supporting Miriam, accused, "Sylvia, you're insane! I'm calling the police!"
Sylvia, feigning confusion, replied, "What... how did you know I was unwell? What did I just do? I can't remember." "What?"
"I was diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder yesterday. Normally, I'm fine, but stress triggers episodes," Sylvia explained. "You're lying!"
"I have a certificate from a reputable hospital." Pushing Rupert aside, Sylvia deliberately stepped on his foot as she retrieved the medical certificate from her bag, showing it to Tristan first. Then she showed it to Bridget.
Bridget fumed. "That must be forged."
Sylvia pointed to the doctor's name. "Christine, you know him, right? How do you think I got him to forge this for me? He was Rupert's man!" Hearing the name Christine, Rupert sharply looked at Sylvia. How did she know?
Ignoring Rupert's gaze, Sylvia toyed with the knife still stained with Miriam's blood, disgustingly wiping it on Miriam's silk shawl draped over the chair back.

Bridget shuddered as a chilling aura of menace seemed to emanate from Sylvia. She clenched her fists and continued, "Sylvia, even if the certificate is real, what does it change? My mom was just scared and talking nonsense. I will call the police and clear her name.
