FRENCH CANADIANS USE Catholic words as swear words.

Cibole – (colloquialism) fuck = derivative of ciboire which is the chalice used during Eucharist.

Tabarnak – (colloquialism) fuck = derivative of the tabernacle which is the ornamented box in which Communion hosts and wine are kept.

Ostie – (colloquialism) goddammit = the host/sacramental bread for Eucharist.

En ostie – for fuck’s sake

Mon Dieu – my God

Ma chérie – my dear

Minou – kitten

Cabane à Sucre – sugar shack = where maple syrup is made and many commercial sugar shacks have restaurants where they serve dishes with maple syrup as a component. The dishes are traditional Québec fare.
