Fall For “My Husband’s Uncle” By Janet Macadam -
Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Edith had mixed feelings when she heard his words. Carlos was seriously injured. He had bled so much. It must hurt a lot.
Except for his slightly pale face, she saw nothing wrong with him. He even smiled when he spoke.
How severe injuries he had sustained to make him not take such a wound seriously?
She stared at the blood on the gauze and asked worriedly, “Does it hurt?”
“It doesn’t hurt,” he replied.
“But I remember that you taught me that I should cry out if I am in pain. You ask me not to endure it alone,” she said with tearful eyes, looking at him with concern.
Upon hearing this, Carlos smiled brightly and tapped her head with his finger.
This time, it was light. It was more like a way to show how he doted on her.
I’m a man, and you’re a woman. I’ll look out for you. If I told you I’m in pain, you would feel sorry thing I want,” he said tenderly.
for me. That’s the last
“What kind of pathetic logic is that? Why do I have to do what you ask me of but you always retort when I ask you to do something?” Edith said in an aggrieved tone.
“Come on, I’m really starving.” Carlos changed the topic.
When she heard this, Edith immediately rushed downstairs to make dinner.
She made him an omelet. Although it was not a feast for eyes, it was fabulous. It had carrots, corn, and soybeans in it. It was crisp and a good choice for hungry people.
Since she was full, she watched as he had it.
He ate with good table manners. His clothes had dust on it, which probably resulted from the accident. Despite that, it wouldn’t damage his charm.
The fork he held seemed to be more expensive than what it was worth because of its user.
He had the manner of a king as if he were always being looked up to.
Was he destined to be this outstanding and charming?
Sensing her keen gaze, he looked up at her and asked, “Why are you looking at me like this?”
“You’re good looking, she replied.
“I still remember that there was a girl who once said that I was average–looking.” Carlos said. Though his voice was calm, there was a trage of mockery in it.
Edith puffed up her cheeks in exasperation. How could a grown man his age be this petty? It had happened a long time ago, and he still mentioned it. Wouldn’t he feel ashamed?
When he finished dinner, she started clearing the table. Just then, a low voice reached her ears.
“Sorry, I’m late. I let you down.”
“What?” Edith said as she looked up at him in disbelief.
It was beyond her wildest imagination that he would admit his mistake.
Meeting her shocked gaze, he tapped her head tenderly and said, “Didn’t you tell me that it sucks when people get disappointed? You don’t want me to know how it feels, neither do I. So I’m sorry.”
“What a surprise… Uncle Carlos is so reasonable,” she said, feeling flattered.
Hearing this, Carlos narrowed his eyes slightly. Did this mean that he had always been rude and unreasonable to her?
She spoke ill of him in a roundabout way.
Edith noted that he had gotten more color. Moreover, they had a pleasant chat. Hence, she got happy.
In fact, she was dying to ask him about the woman they had met earlier that night and what her relationship with him was. But on second thought, she wasn’t his girlfriend or something. It seemed that she was in no position to question him or ask for an explanation.
It was true that she had waited for him tonight, but it was her own idea. Carlos had never asked her to do so.
Since she asked for it, why did she have to get to the bottom of it? More importantly, she was yet to see him as her boyfriend.
She tried to convince herself with the reasons above.
When she got it done, Sam took Carlos‘ doctor at home there.
Carlos asked Edith to leave because he didn’t want her to see a scene that might freak her out. However, she insisted on staying with him and expressed that she could be of assistance.
“There’ll be blood. You may get scared, Carlos said.
“If it hurts too much, I can keep you distracted. That can help you with the pain. How do you know I can’t be useful and will get terrified?” she retorted stubbornly.
She was worried sick about his injury. He had lost so much blood. She surmised that the wound must be very deep!
Knowing that his persuasion wouldn’t work, Carlos gave in.
When the gauze was removed, she saw the bleeding wound.
Since it was caused by sticks that had been trimmed lately, the wound was deep and there was much residue in his flesh.
Although it had been taken care of, the possibility of it flaming couldn’t be ruled out. Carlos was in such a hurry to get out of the hospital that he didn’t get good treatment.
The doctor also frowned when he saw such a deep wound. He could almost see the bones.
Carlos‘ wound had been treated in a hospital, but it was yet to heal. Blood still oozed out from his arm.
The doctor needed to stop the bleeding right away.
“Mr. Lawson, it may hurt a little later. You’ll have to live with it. There’s no anesthetic left in my emergency medical kit, and I forgot to refill it. How about I… go get it?” the doctor said.
“No need. It’s just a minor injury, Carlos said calmly.
His words made Edith’s heart sink.
It was just a minor injury to Carlos?
What had he experienced that made him think it was not a big deal?
In the following treatment, Carlos sweated profusely. His face turned paler because of the loss of blood. Except that, he didn’t look like a patient.
He even smiled at Edith to comfort her.
“If you’re frightened, you can leave. There’s really nothing you can do,” he said to her.
His considerate words touched Edith. But she shook her head and said, “I want to be here with you.”
Carlos was slightly moved. She wanted to keep him company. It had been a long time since he had someone by his side.
He had always been alone.
Hearing this, he nodded in agreement.
It didn’t take long for the doctor to take care of the wound. He gave Edith the gauze and said, “Change the gauze for Mr. Lawson before he goes to bed tonight, and keep water from his wound. If he wants to take a shower, he’ll need your help.”
“Ah? Me? You’ve misunderstood my relationship with him. You should let Sam do the job!” she said in shock, her eyes almost popping out.
Looking at her face, Carlos couldn’t help but make fun of her.
He stepped forward to hold her in his arms and said, “My wife is shy. Don’t ask her any questions. Sam will drive you home.”
Hearing this, the doctor nodded. He made his way to the door, and before he got out, he returned. His face was a little red in embarrassment as he said, “Well… Mr. Lawson, you’re in your best years. I checked in on you and found you have strong urges. Well… you’d better control yourself… at night. If you have trouble having sex, Mrs. Lawson will have to do more than usual in bed.”
Edith was rendered speechless.
She couldn’t believe that those words would come out of a doctor’s mouth.
What was that doctor suggesting?
