Cleo's POV
We had been in the library for over an hour and each one of their questions were beginning to grind on me. I understood they had a job to do but come on! Most of their questions were stupid and an ultimate waste of time. Questions such as where I was born, who raised me and when did I make myself rogue were all things, I'm certain they already knew.
After all, once a pup is born, they are registered within the week just like humans. The only difference being unlike in the human world we have to note everything. Notes are made on hair and eye colour. The date and time we receive our wolf, the date we become mated and the date when you leave. So, for them to ask my mother's maiden name made absolutely no sense.
"Miss Barton, we are placing you under arrest pending further investigation."
"WHAT?" The pitch of my voice so much higher as that one sentence caught me off guard.
"Anything more will be discussed at The Ballard. Until cleared you will remain in one of the holding cells."
"Cleared! Cleared of what!" Hector looked to his mate before looking back at me. His eyes holding an apologetic look.
"Gentleman I'm afraid we are not going to allow you to take her. Not without divulging any evidence you have that classes her a threat." Axel was quick to my defence something I had never expected.
"You wish to discuss evidence Mr Gemstone. How about the fact that Crystal Spring has no records detailing her birth and their Alpha claims to have never heard of her."
"Do not think us narrow minded. You can believe me when we say we do our research before arriving."
"Never heard of me! Alpha Trent signed our permission slips to leave! He's lying."
"You say 'our' who is the other?"
"Her sister." Roman was the first one to provide a witness.
"Ah Daphne. Yes, I had almost forgotten about her. Alpha Trent did say he authorised her leave. He also said she left alone."
"We also need to speak with Daphne."
"Speak or arrest. You guys really have a way of being cryptic. It's hard to know what you mean."
"I'd watch your tone Alpha Roman. We are well within our rights to strip you bare of any given titles, and let's not forget make you forever a rogue for not having identified the trouble with your mate to begin with. It's only out of the respect your family has within the supernatural world that prevents such actions being taken against you."
"Respect? You don't know the meaning of the word. Not one of you do! You've come here on a fucking wolf hunt, and you know it. Your all just to tight arsed to admit it. So, with all due respect I'm afraid I will not be allowing my mate to go anywhere with any of you unless..."
"ENOUGH!" Elder Johnathan put a stop to the arguments before they could spiral further out of control.
As the door to the library opened, a giant man littered in tattoos holding a pair of silver cuffs walked in and waited for instruction. I could feel Roman's anger as if it were my own latching on to the demonic side I wished I never had. The side that I could feel was trying to claw its way out.
"I truly wish things could be different but I'm afraid she's much too dangerous to be allowed to continue the way she is. As for the pup; it's un-natural and needs to be put down."
'Let me out I'll show this twat how dangerous I can be!' Fur began to sprout along my arms as Freya forced control.
Loud gasps escaped the elders as they took in the sight of my half wolf, half demon side. I was different yes, but that didn't make me an abomination. Nor did it mean my pup needed to die.

As a loud roar rumbled from my chest I watched through my eyes as Freya charged towards them. Knowing I was now declaring war all I could do was fight and pray they couldn't kill me. Feeling a sharp pain radiate through my shoulder, Roman growled. In a blind rage his entire body transformed before wrapping his large hand around the elder's throat ripping it from him.
"GO!" Roman's words were loud in my head as he screamed. Looking in his direction Freya nodded before smashing into the stained-glass window.
We were on the second floor, yet our wolves jumped as if it were nothing. Roman took off through the woods so I followed knowing exactly where he was going. As we finally reached the cave hidden within the confides of the waterfall we shifted back.
I knew why I looked the way I did in wolf form but Roman didn't have demon blood. He was the exact opposite to me coming from one of the most well known goddesses. "Roman how did you... your wolf he..."
"Yeh, about that. Balthazar has been going on about feeling different for a long time. When Henrik took my bloods to try and track our pup, he picked up on it. The colour was darker, even the smell of my blood more potent. He asked me for my permission to confirm his suspicions and what do you know. Your form is natural, but mine. Mine changed after our pup was born. In all honesty I think the Moon Goddess had something to do with it. By my wolf and I taking on your form we have a better chance of protecting you and our pup when we find her. And we will find her." Wrapping his arms around me he held me close. The sparks of his touch eased the rapid beating of my heart. A feeling I wished lasted longer than it did as Roman slowly pulled away.
Walking to where a large crack shaped one of the walls he pulled out a ruck sack. Taking out a pair of joggers and a t-shirt he put them on. Let's face it as much as I'd like to see him walk around naked, he couldn't.
"What do we do now? There's not going to be any help from the pack with arrest warrants hanging over our heads."
"No. The order they will now give is death. The trouble is when that order is given, they send contracts to a select few."
"If only a few that's good surely."
"No love it isn't. Those few are the best in the business. A couple are even very skilled human hunters. All we can do now is lay low until Henrik can get us that athame."

I didn't want to kill an elder, but I didn't have any other choice. There was no way I was going to just sit back and allow them to take Cleo. I had already failed as mate when it came to protecting her and had promised to never fail again. To see my new form in the reflection on the lake it didn't shock me like I'd thought it would. In all honesty I was honoured to resemble the bond with my mate. All though a part of me wished my fur too had changed colour as I now looked like the abdominal snowman.
It was when Cleo went missing, I prayed with everything I had to the Moon Goddess. I prayed that she would give me the strength I needed to protect what was mine, and only when Henrik told me his suspicions did I know she had listened. I should have told Cleo about it before now, but I was waiting for the right time. Trouble was the right time never seemed to come around.
"Human hunters?" The moment those words left her lips I knew what she was thinking. Her parents had been murdered by hunters when she was a child, something she had never fully forgotten. Just looking into her eyes, I could see the hope rising within them. It wasn't that she hoped we wouldn't see them, but that she hoped it were the same ones so she could get revenge for her parents.
"I won't let anything else happen to you Cleo. We will get back our pup, destroy Hades and Kaylee, and then we will show everyone it's ok to be different."
"It's not going to be that simple though Roman. You killed an elder! They will never let you live for that."
"They won't have a choice. I have the blood of the Moon Goddess running through my veins. They themselves implicated the law against ending our lives. Why else do you think they tortured my mother. They did their worst because they couldn't kill her. Had anyone else done what she did their life would have been taken on the spot. I don't expect you to understand the politics of our situation Cleo, but please trust me."
"I trust you with my life Roman, there's nobody I'd trust more."
"Then believe me we will get out of this."
"Then you'll need this." Turning around Henrik stood holding the athame in his hands a proud look on his face.
