Roman's POV

I didn't know how Kai and my father came to be here, and I didn't care. I was just glad they were. Cleo and I knew it wouldn't be easy, but neither of us expected an army of rogues to this magnitude.

As I broke the neck of the last rogue, I turned to see my father incinerate each lifeless body. The last thing we needed on top of this was for the humans to discover them. We knew our worlds colliding one day would eventually happen, but not today.

"Am I glad to see you!" I smiled faintly as I patted my father on the shoulder, though his face contorted with worry as he scanned the street. "Where did your brother go?"

"With Cleo, come on." As we caught up to Kai and Cleo, my father quickly placed his arm in front of me, preventing me from moving forward. "You might want to wait here." Confused with his words, I watched as he stood beside Cleo, placing his hand on her shoulder.

The moment he touched her, I felt them connect. He was forcing his element into Cleo, giving her the extra strength to form the monstrosity of a fireball that floated mid-air. Never in my existence had I seen one that big. Fireballs had always been just that; a mass of fire morphed into a ball. Yet this was something new altogether. Her fireball was made of rings spinning within each other. It was beautiful yet dangerous, the power it emitted giving me goosebumps. Even with all the power I possessed, I'd never managed to do what she had.

When Cleo could not hold it anymore, she screamed, sending it toward the church. The barrier surrounding it dissolving on impact. This was our one chance to get inside, and I wasn't about to waste it. As I ran for the doors, I could feel Balthazar healing the last of my wounds.

A church was a place of worship. A place where those that believe in a higher power went to pay their respects. Whether it be a God or Goddess, people seek hope, forgiveness, and sanctuary in their prayers. This church, however, didn't give off that safe, welcoming vibe. Instead, it sent a cold vibe shivering through me.

This place had been condemned years ago after a priest took his own life. From then on, those that believed in a darker power used it for all things unholy. The remnants of a pentagram drawn in old blood stained the varnished floorboards, the same symbol graffitied over the walls. This was why Hades had chosen this place. It had been primed with negative energy, ready to use as the base of his sacrifice.

"Your too late; beauty is definitely in her genes. Abbie was beautiful; Cleo looks just like her in every way. It's a shame you won't see what this little thing will look like as she grows." As Hades stood at the end of the aisle with his back turned to me, I wondered what he meant. Until he turned around, and in his arms was a tiny wolf. Her fur was rusty like Freya's, with little specs of white. Seeing her lay motionless in his arms, I fell to my knees, my heart weighing heavily in my chest. "ROMAN... NOO! YOU BASTARD!" Cleo stopped in her tracks when her eyes met our pup. Seeing her distraught was when I felt it. Balthazar bashed relentlessly against the veil that held him. I didn't bother telling him no, that there was no point because I would have been wrong.

He shattered the veil absorbing every ounce of hate and anger I felt, using it to fuel himself. The shift took no more than a minute before he made a run for Hades. One more step, and we would have had him had it not been for my father. A line of fire appeared, separating me from him.

"ROMAN, STOP!"

"Listen to him, Roman. Think of your pup." How could my father and Kai assume I wasn't? Everything I had done up until now was for her.

As my eyes focused on the flames, Cleo walked straight past me. I growled at her to stop, but she didn't bat an eye. Holding her hand over the fire, she absorbed it. Just when she went to take a step forward, Daphne's wolf attacked her from the side, knocking her down. Growling, I went to help her, only to find myself frozen in place.

"KAYLEE, ENOUGH!" Kai shouted, drawing her attention; however, it did nothing to stop her. Clicking her fingers, he too found himself unable to move. "Kaylee, please. You don't have to do this." "You can pull on the strings of your precious mate bond all you want. It won't work. In fact, maybe we should have it removed just in case."

"Kaylee..." Clicking her fingers again, Kai went silent. His lips shut, unable to open them.

I watched as Kaylee walked to her father, who had placed my pup on the altar. Tilting her neck to the side, Hades put his hand over Kai's mark while placing the other hand on her shoulder. Removing a mark was dangerous and forbidden. Wolfs died unable to bear the pain, and those that didn't became mentally scared.

As Hades hand began to glow, Kaylee screamed just as the sound of Kai's breathing became strained. Tears fell silently from his eyes as the mark on his neck began to fade. As Kaylee went quiet, Kai's eyes rolled into the back of his head before he fell forward hitting the floor, his mouth foaming.

Daphne's POV

I screamed for my wolf to stop as I fought to regain control. What they did to me didn't matter, but I didn't want to harm my sister, not after everything I'd already done.

As we rolled around on the church floor, I prayed to the Moon Goddess that she would help me. End my life if it's what it would take. Anything to stop this madness. She needed to get to her pup, who was just out of reach. 'You have the strength within you.' The words faint as they rang in my ears. That voice I could have sworn I knew but couldn't place it.

Having thrown Cleo aside, her head bleeding from where it hit the bottom of the podium, I watched as my wolf just stood there waiting for her next instruction. My sister lay there in a pool of her blood from a wound I knew would be fatal if nobody helped her now.

"I can't hold them much longer!" Kaylee panicked as keeping everyone frozen began to take a toll on her. Her legs started to buckle as she struggled to stand up straight.

"Hang on; I'll get us out of here; it's too early to complete the sacrifice." Knowing that if they left now, there would be a good chance we wouldn't find them again, I closed my eyes, trying hard to find the strength I supposedly obtained. Gripping the reins, I forced my wolf back and ran for Hades, only to find his hand lodged in my chest. I could feel his hand wrapped firmly around my heart as he began to squeeze. With each second, it became harder to breathe. At that moment, my mind went to Eric and each short moment we'd had together, knowing we wouldn't get a chance at another. He'd told me about the life he wished us to have once all this was over. We would have gotten married, had a pup or two, and I knew we would have been happy.

"NO!" Hearing Roman's voice, I knew Kaylee had finally lost her strength. Though what I didn't expect was for Hades to jolt, his grip on my heart loosening. As he ripped his hand from my chest, I fell to the ground, my fur instantly retreating, leaving me cold and naked.

Dropping the knife he held, Hades fell forwards, stumbling to the ground as blood spluttered from his mouth. Hearing the sound of metal hitting the ground, Axel ran to my side, holding my head on his lap. Seeing how he put his grievances aside, I felt relieved to know I wouldn't be forced to die alone.

I wanted to say something, to apologise, anything. Yet I couldn't. My entire body began to feel numb as I felt the last of Hades magic begin to leave my system. He was dying, and so was his control over me. As my eyelids fluttered, standing behind Axel, I saw her. My mum stood there, her hand held out, ready for me to take. In this one moment, I knew the Moon Goddess had forgiven me for my past choices, and with that, my last breath left my lips.
