Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha -
Sixty-Four
Cleo's POV
I wasn't going to let him die, not for me. I didn't deserve it, and I didn't deserve him. His pack needed him to survive. After overhearing what Roman and his family intended to do, I knew I had to get there first. This all began because of me, and it would end with me. I'd be damned if anyone else would lose their lives because of me.
Closing my eyes, I pictured the Wolf Embassy. The building had recently been refurbished due to a fire a few years ago, and I remembered seeing it on the billboard back in the orphanage. It was shaped like a large townhouse, at least four floors high. The wooden fronts were replaced with blacked-out glass panels from the bottom to the third floor. The fourth floor was brick and held only a couple of windows.
Any passerby wouldn't think anything of it, but in my mind, that would be where they met and held their most secretive meetings. It offered the most coverage and was high enough that they had more chance to get away if something happened downstairs.
The blue flames tickled my skin as they encased me, a companion I didn't know if I could part from when the time came.
As the air around me grew cold, I knew I was where I needed to be. Opening my eyes as the bright flames died out, I locked eyes with my first target. The security guard was quick to draw his gun, but I was quicker.
His body fell to the ground, now nothing more than a pile of ash, and he wouldn't be the last. The council and everyone that worked with them would end up this way.
As I made my way further down the corridor, I found a woman sitting behind a desk, a glass screen separating her from the rest of the room. The moment she saw me, her face paled, and her hand raced to the phone.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." I placed my hands on my hips and waited for the woman to decide. I'd prefer to get the jump on the council, but it didn't matter either way because I would get them all, even if I had to chase them to the ends of the earth. And if by some miracle, they died before I found them, I'd be waiting in the afterlife for them.
I sighed as she placed the phone back down, just as the alarms began to blare. The little red light on the ceiling was now flashing. The stupid woman had just ruined my fun. Standing from her chair, she crossed her arms and smirked. She must have thought she was safe behind that pane of glass to act as smug as she was.
Walking up to the glass screen, I placed my hands on it while keeping eye contact with the woman. As my hands heated, the glass began to melt. Quickly uncrossing her arms, she stumbled backwards, falling over her handbag. As I went to grab her, a firing gun came from behind me, the bullet missing me and lodging into the wall.
"MISS, I URGE YOU TO STOP!" Turning to see the idiot that was speaking, I couldn't help but laugh. The guy had a baby face, so he couldn't be described as a man. He was tall and skinny; his blonde hair neatly slicked back. Seeing how his hands trembled around the gun he held, I knew this was new to him, and this is he had managed to shoot me, it would be on a whim. If only he knew that it would be his last day.
Turning back to the woman on the floor, I followed her as she attempted to crawl away. Here I thought the council couldn't stand change, yet here they were, employing humans. Had I not smelt the burning of silver from the security guard's gun, I'd wonder if they knew wolves existed.
Grabbing her by the back of her head, she screamed as I tangled my fingers in her hair. Dragging her across the floor and to the door on the opposite side, I forced her face to the retinal scanner. As it beeped and the lock opened, I threw her across the room, smashing into a shelving unit. I was going to kill her; I probably should have, but she was human and no real threat to me. Unlike the idiot with the gun whom I would be dealing with.
The embassy was a series of mazes; had I learned its layout, it would have taken forever. Getting to the end of the corridor, I was met with five men standing in a line. Each one of them had a weapon in their hand. As two of them ran towards me, one of them sliced my arm. Freya wasn't in the mood to play around and shifted. Picking up both men, she bashed them together before throwing them to the ground like toys she'd become bored of.
"GET UP, YOU FOOLS!" Ah, there he was, the next elder to die.
As the next two men approached, one had a pistol while the other held a larger gun. Freya was strong, but avoiding bullets in human form would be easier, so we wasted no time in shifting. As they began to take their aim, the bullets quickly flew through the air. Partially shifting my hands, I slit both their throats. Realising that only one shot had hit me, I didn't think I did too badly. The face of the last man twisted with disgust as he watched me pull the bullet from my arm. "Want to see my trick?" I smiled as the man shook his head before turning and pushing past the elder. Holding the bullet tightly, I threw it at him, wincing as it hit his head full force and came out of his face. It amazed me to see his body still move for a second before his nervous system realised he was dead.

Turning my attention to the elder that knew running wouldn't do him any good, I grabbed him by the throat. He screamed as I lifted him off the ground before turning to ash. "What the..."
"Looks like we're late to the party."
Roman's POV
As we arrived at the embassy, it was like a ghost town. At first, we didn't think anyone was there until we entered the reception area. It looked like a struggle had occurred, and even though I had suspicions about who was responsible, I chose to keep quiet. That was until my father found the melted screen.
"Looks like someone beat us here."
"Come on, let's keep searching."
I knew this place like the back of my hand, so I knew the remaining council members would hide away on the top floor. They weren't exactly spring chickens, but they had much more influence over our kind. My grandfather may be our King, but even he had to get their permission for some things.
As we reached the first staircase, the smell of blood hit me. The footsteps coming from above us told me we had found someone. Rushing to the top of the stairs, I found Cleo holding Elder Christoff up by his throat. Out of all the elders, I hated him the most. He was the one to condemn my mother to the torture she received. Seeing him, I knew I wanted him dead by my hands, but I'd learnt to know the look in Cleo's eyes all too well.

Knowing it was now or never, I formed a fireball and threw it straight at him, watching as he turned to ash in my mate's hands, and for a second, she looked confused. "What the..."
"Looks like we're late to the party. Sorry love, you can have fun with the others, but that one was mine."
"Stay out of my way." As she went to walk away, I grabbed her hand.
"Cleo, wait! Let us do this together. They've wronged you just as much as they have us. When they're dead, we can get our lives back."
"This is my life, Roman. I'm evil, remember."
"You're not evil, you're just under the influence of a dark power." Cleo just shook her and looked away.
"You looked at me as if I were the most disgusting thing you'd ever seen. I can't forget that Roman, I won't. Just like I will never forget what I have done."
"That guilt you're feeling is the good in you, Cleo. You need to hold on to that and not let it go."
