Fated To The Lycan Brothers -
Chapter 90
Keith Whitford
It's been a long time since I had felt this on edge. The first time was when I was younger, when Stella had left, and the second was when I lost Eve. This time, Suri had disappeared and to say that I was devastated would be an understatement. Heaven knows there was no way I could lose her, too. When my phone lit up and I saw that it was Atlas, hope sparked in me instantly.
"Atlas? Did you find her?" I asked while feeding papers to the shredder machine.
It had become one of my coping mechanisms, things I do to keep me leveled, and it was weird, but something about the sound of the machine and seeing paper turn into shreds calmed me down.
"We found her. We're on the way home."
Oh, thank the heavens. I can finally breathe.
I collapsed on the leather chair, relief encompassing me, as I let out a loud and deep exhale.
"But there's something else," Atlas suddenly added, and I joltedd back up on the floor.
"What? What is it, Atlas? Is she okay? Did something happen to her?"
I swear to the universe if anything bad happened to her, I will make sure whoever harmed her would pay a hefty price. I wasn't one to hold grudges on people, but if they hurt my family, they will get what they deserve.
There was silence on the other end of the line, and as each millisecond that passed, I felt more and more desperate to know what it was Atlas couldn't just say out loud. They were hiding something from me.
I already sensed it back then, but I chose to not say anything about it. I knew the boys had something going on with Suri, but I figured that they were waiting for an opportunity to let me know, and I was willing to give them however much time they needed. But that was back then and if whatever it is they are hiding is related to Suri's well-being then I need to know everything and right now.
"Atlas! Answer me!" I demanded, and I'm not one to raise my voice, but this was really testing my patience.
"Dad, she's-" Atlas paused and I could hear the worry and vulnerability in his voice.
Ever since Eve passed away, Atlas had only called me 'dad' a handful of times, and most of them were when he was in distress. It's like the little boy in him comes back and he needs a fatherly figure to keep him together.
This worried me even more because what could have possibly happened for him to be so shaken?
"Suri, she's- um, l- ah, I can't believe it either, but she... she shifted...
"What? What are you talking about shifted? Shifted how? Shifted to wh-"
Oh.
Oh, no.
When the realization hit me a few seconds later, I was a little too lost for words. Sure I knew this entire fantasy world was actually real and it existed amongst us, but somehow I still hadn't been expecting this. I wasn't expecting Suri to be a part of that world. This discovery only meant one thing, though.
Stella... She had been with a wolf. I don't know when it was specifically, but she could have spent one night or more back then, back when we were still living together.
"Dad, and that's not it." Atlas added and good god, what is it this time? How is it that this could all happen in one goddamn night?
But then I saw the date and quickly realized it was Suri's birthday and now everything makes sense.
"Suri didn't just shift into a wolf. She's a Lycan. She's like us, but... white. Pure white."
Oh Jesus, have mercy.
Stella wasn't just with a wolf. She was with a Lycan! And she left because she had gotten pregnant by him!
This is all a little too much for me to process, but I knew that whether or not I could process or understand it, it is our reality now and the only thing I could really do was accept our situation and try to live with it.
I also knew that no matter what happens, Suri is family. I consider her as my daughter and whatever it takes, we will all get through this together.
"Alright. just get home as soon as possible, okay? We'll figure it out here. Come back safe and we'll figure out what to do." I tell Atlas in a calm tone, but deep down inside, there was a war in my head and my heart. "Thanks, dad. We will. See you soon."
As soon as he hung up the phone, all I could do was collapse back on the chair, staring at my paper shredder. That thing can't help me anymore. This whole situation has escalated into something else, and I know that whatever happens from now on, we all have to be very, very careful.
A shudder traveled all throughout my body as I remembered something important. I remembered what Eve told me a long, long time ago, and how she left something for the boys should anything happen.
She had not specified exactly what it was that could happen, but I had a strong feeling something like this was a more than enough valid reason.
I got up from my chair and rushed to the safe hidden behind some of my books. I inputted the code which was the date I chanced upon Eve and the boys, and when it opened, there it was.
In a small white envelope was a silver USB that Eve had made me promise to keep safe and never show the boys until I was certain the time had come.
Whatever Eve had left here... I believe it was time to finally show it to her sons. Atlas Wolfe
Suri was safe. She was sleeping soundly and was safe, and that was all that mattered.
Yet neither of us could help the anxiety that coursed through us every time we looked at her because we knew we weren't just looking at Suri, our human mate. We were now looking at Suri, our Lycan mate.
It would have been shocking enough for her to be a wolf, but when we saw that she was more and was also pure white, we couldn't figure out how it was even possible.
Well, we do know, and it's only if her mother had been with a Lycan. Specifically someone that was rare enough because to have that color means they were special. Suri was special.
Wes, Dev, and I were determined to help figure out exactly who, what, and where Suri really came from, and to do that, we needed Keith, and hoped to the Moon Goddess he knew more than us.
I was just scared that whatever it is that we find... would put Suri's life in danger all over again.
I let out an anxious sigh before tucking a strand behind Suri's ear. She let out a soft noise that tugged at my heart, and I couldn't help but feel tears prick the back of my eyes.
"We'll keep you safe no matter what, baby. We promise." I whispered to her before planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
Just then, we saw the black gates start to open and I felt something shift in the air and my heart thumped loud in my rib cage.
"We're home," Devon said and we all looked at each other before nodding our heads with a solemn expression.
I took a deep breath and held onto Suri's hand.
Home.
Wherever Suri is, that's where home is, and whatever it is that we find out from here on out, nothing will ever change that.
