Estelle's gaze was warm and sincere as she turned to leave, busying herself with other matters.

Early in the morning, Tracy was in the CEO's office, reporting to Charlie James.

"There's a high-level cocktail party at noon. It's about the acquisition case."

After reporting the day's agenda, Tracy respectfully said, "Mr. James, I've been tracking the acquisition case all this time. I can accompany you."

Charlie, busy reviewing documents, replied without looking up, "You go; I have other things to handle."

A flash of disappointment crossed Tracy's eyes, but her smile remained intact. "Alright."

The morning flew by quickly. Tracy needed to change for the cocktail party and therefore left early. Around noon, Charlie came out of his office and said to Emily, who was still working, "I want grilled salmon for lunch. Let's go to the supermarket and get the ingredients."

Emily looked up in surprise and said, "Don't you have plans for lunch?"

"No."

With that, Charlie strode out.

Emily quickly switched off her computer, grabbed her mobile, and followed him.

Minutes later, they were in the car, with Charlie driving.

Seeing Charlie's stern expression, Emily thought for a moment before politely saying, "Mr. James, if there's anything you want to eat, you can just tell me next time. I can go buy it myself or send an assistant. You don't have to go yourself."

Charlie, eyes fixed on the road ahead, replied, "I only want to eat what I buy myself."

Emily was speechless.

Alright, he's the boss.

The journey wasn't far, but traffic was a bit heavy at that hour, so they were moving slowly.

The sun outside was blazing hot, but the air conditioning inside the car was on full blast, making it quite chilly.

Charlie noticed Emily rubbing her arms and quietly turned down the air conditioning.

Emily quickly said, "It's okay; I'm not cold."

"I didn't do it for you; I'm cold." Charlie replied coldly.

Emily was speechless by his response.

Suddenly, her phone started ringing. She picked it up to see an unknown number.

"Hello." Emily answered the call.

"Emily, this is Terry, Bonnie's father," the caller said with a laugh.-"I got your number from your mother, Gina."

Emily was a bit taken aback but quickly regained her composure and politely said, "Hello."

Terry asked, "Are you at work now?"

"I just got off. Is there something you need?"

"I was hoping you could do me a favor, if you have the time."

Emily quickly replied, "Sure, what can I do to help?"

Charlie glanced at her expressionlessly and said, "Put it on speaker."

"What?"

Emily had been thinking about what Terry might need help with when Charlie suddenly spoke. She turned to look at him instinctively, her surprised expression especially

innocent.

Charlie took her phone, switched on the speakerphone, and placed it aside.
