Chapter 1737

"There's never been anyone else. It's always been you."

She suppressed the bitterness in her heart, stood up, and left.

In the lobby of the hotel, her mind was still ina mess. She absentmindedly walked outside. Suddenly, she heard someone call her name. "Emily!" Turning around, she saw Cedric.

"Why are you still here?" Emily asked, puzzled.

Cedric looked her up and down, "Are you okay?"

Emily realized that Cedric stayed behind because he was worried she might be mistreated. He had waited for her even after the dinner ended.

"I'm fine. Thank you, Cedric, she said, touched by his concern.

"You're new to the workforce, Emily, he said. "And you have a simple and pure mindset, but you should still know when to refuse and not compromise, like in the matter with Mr. Beck, you handled it well." Emily appreciated his words, "Il understand what you mean. Mr. James and I are friends, he won't hurt me."

"That's good," Cedric nodded, "I'm heading home now. You should go home early too."

"Alright" Emily replied, expressing her gratitude, "Thank you so much, Cedric.

She considered herself lucky to have a mentor like Cedric at work.

"It's my pleasure, said Cedric with a warm smile before heading out.

Emily left the hotel and hailed a cab. Sitting in the cab, she thought about Charlie's words, which were still tugged at her heart, making her heart to ache.

When she arrived home, Ms. Simmons was still awake. She noticed the smell of alcohol on Emily and expressed her concern, "Emily, while making money is important, but you shouldn't overwork yourself. Sit down and rest for a bit. I'll get you some water."

"I'm fine, Ms. Simmons; Emily reassured her, "It's late, and you should go home. And tomorrow is Saturday, so you don't have to come over."

Ms. Simmons brought her a glass of water. Seeing that her face didn't look quite right, she asked, "Is there something troubling you?"

"I'm just a bit tired" replied Emily, taking the water.

"Well, get some rest then. I made some apple pie this afternoon and stored them in the fridge. You can steam them for breakfast; said Ms. Simmons.

"Thank you. Be careful on your way home," Emily said with a faint smile.

"Don't worry, Ms. Simmons replied, reminding Emily to get some sleep before picking up her bag and leaving.

After Ms. Simmons left, Emily went to the bedroom to check on Kya. She found her sleeping soundly, nestled against her arm, with her chubby cheeks squished and a little kick of her tiny legs that had kicked the blanket off.

Emily carefully covered Kya with the blanket. Then she lay down next to her, gazing at her with a gentle look.

Through Kya, Emily saw that man again.

She thought about their first encounter, when he had broken up with Noreen, causing Noreen to insult her. At that time, she had disdain for him, thinking that a jerk like him would surely get what he deserved eventually.

Then, in the middle of the night at the Royal Mansion, they had run into each other. She had mistaken him for a burglar and hit him on the head, causing a concussion. To make up for that, she had taken care of him for a week. During that time, she realized that this man might not be as bad as she had thought.

He was humorous, a gentleman, and always considerate of others.

Over the years, he had helped her so many times that she had lost count.

The first time she realized the huge gap between them was when her brother's ex-girlfriend Crystal, had tried to seduce Charlie behind her brother's back, making Emily feel humiliated and unable to face him anymore. She immediately moved out of the Royal Mansion.

At that time, she had already developed feelings for him, hadn't she?
