Bonnie was thrilled, "Honey, you're just in time. I've found a buzzworthy seafood restaurant online. We should go there for dinner tonight!"

Elliott stumped onto the couch with a dispirited look. "I'm not in the mood to go out for dinner tonight."

"What's wrong?" Bonnie asked.

Gina noticed Elliott's glum face and immediately came over, asking with concern, "What's happened?"

Elliott frowned deeply. "I've been dismissed. I'm unemployed!"

Gina's face paled. "Why were you laid off?"

Bonnie felt a sudden sinking feeling in her heart. "Yeah, what did you do wrong? Why would they fire you? A few days ago, they were talking about promoting you to department manager. How did they suddenly decide to lay you off?"

Gina tried to comfort Bonnie, "Bonnie, don't be panic. The baby is your priority. Let's listen to Elliott first."

Bonnie shook off Gina's hand, her face filled with anger as she glared at Elliott, "Well, say something! What happened?"

Elliott raised his head, his features contorted. "I don't know either. The manager suddenly called me into his office and said the company was downsizing. I found my name on the list. He said they will provide me a severance pay, and then I was told to go home."

Bonnie sank onto the couch, her face filled with disappointment.

After she found out she was pregnant, she immediately quit her job.

Considering that Elliott was about to get promoted, she thought she could relax at home and enjoy life while carrying their baby. But now, Elliott didn't get promoted; instead, he was unemployed. This sudden turn of events left then without any income.

She was pregnant and certainly couldn't go back to work.

The money they had saved was spent on buying a car and accessories. If both of them were unemployed, how were they going to sustain themselves?

Soon, they would have an additional expense.

Even if Elliott managed to find a new job quickly, he would have to start from scratch. Her dream of being a trophy wife seemed more distant than ever.

Gina was a mix of anxiety and anger. "You were doing so well, about to get promoted. How could they lay you off during downsizing? Could someone have deliberately targeted you?"

"After being laid off, I was unwilling to accept it. I asked a lot of colleagues, but none of them had heard about downsizing. The company's performance has been well, so why would they need to lay employees off?" Elliott rubbed his face wearily. Suddenly, he seemed to remember something, and asked in a shocked voice, "Could it be related to Emily?"

Bonnie's eyes widened, "How is she involved?"

Gina suddenly remembered that Emily and Charlie were friends, and her son worked in a branch of the James family's company.

She looked regretful. "How could I forget about this!"

At that time, Shawn was in the operating room, and with the news of the hefty compensation, she was in chaos and completely forgot about Emily and Charlie. Bonnie said coldly, "So, Emily is the one behind this, deliberately provoking Mr. James to fire you?"

Elliott was confused. "It's just a guess, but I believe Emily wouldn't do this to me!"

When he got married, Charlie personally came to support Emily. Now, with their family bullying Emily, how could Charlie just stand by and do nothing?

Bonnie's face hardened, "It must be her. She pretends to be righteous in public and scheming in the shadows. I'm going to talk to her and clear things up!"

Gina quickly stopped her, "Bonnie, you can't go. You're pregnant! What if you get into a fight and it harms the baby?"

"We can't even make ends meet, and you're worried about the baby?" Bonnie stormed out.

Gina tried to stop her, "This is too risky. I'll go talk to Emily. You stay at home.

l'il make sure to get answers from her!"

"Why bother asking?" Elliott suddenly stood up, yelling.
