Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) -
Chapter 1909
She was hell-bent on uncovering what Lynn was up to here!
This was Evelyn's problem, and of course, Estelle had no business meddling.
Not to mention Evelyn's connection to the master as his granddaughter wasn't confirmed, even if it was, Estelle had no right to make decisions for her.
Estelle nodded, "It's your call to make, but just so you know, this place can be pretty dicey. I figure you got a taste of that last night."
Evelyn insisted, "I'll figure out a way to look after myself."
Lambert let out a snort. He looked up to see Evelyn frowning at him and quickly flashed a grin, "Miss, don't get it twisted. I'm not laughing at you. I just felt like laughing, that's all." Evelyn was a bit flustered.
Estelle shot Lambert a glance, "You give her a hand!"
Lambert raised an eyebrow, "What's in it for me?"
Estelle's voice was crisp, "Your bodyguard fee is slashed by half."
Lambert looked at Estelle in surprise, slightly puzzled. Was she just being charitable to this young lady, or was there some special reason behind it?
As for that talk of fate, he didn't buy it for a second!
He nodded agreeably, "Sure, I'll have someone take her to the bar. She'll at least be a bit safer this way."
"Thank you!" Evelyn promptly said, her tone genuine, "And thanks for last night!"
"Don't thank me, thank her!" Lambert said with a chuckle, giving Estelle a playful look.
After breakfast, Lambert arranged for Evelyn to be dropped off at the bar. Evelyn said her goodbyes to Estelle, "I reckon we all have our reasons for winding up here. I believe you and Mr. Brennan are good folks. If you ever need me, just holler!"
Estelle replied, "Sure thing, and if you need anything, feel free to come to me."
"Goodbye!" Evelyn said, pursing her lips and waving to Estelle.
Once Evelyn had left in the car, Lambert's teasing voice sounded behind Estelle, "What a naïve girl!"
Estelle turned around to see Lambert leaning casually against the door, his grey shirt and black vest accentuating his chiseled features. Even in such a laid-back posture, he exuded an aristocratic charm. Estelle asked, "What's on the agenda for today?"
Lambert's eyes held a deep warmth as he looked at her, smiling, "Go upstairs and change. Then you're coming with me to meet Raiden."
Estelle felt a shiver of anticipation and nodded, "Alright!"
Estelle slipped into a floor-length gown and donned a matching lace hat, its veil casting a mysterious allure over her face. It was a common ensemble for the local girls, so when Estelle descended the stairs in her attire, nobody batted an eye.
Only Lambert took a longer look at her.
The car was waiting outside, and Lambert, ever the gentleman, opened the door for her before getting in on the other side.
Zion by day regained its austere and solemn air.
The car rolled down the cobblestone streets, across the sprawling lawns, and stopped outside an European-style castle next to the research facility.
Guards in military boots and white gloves came to open the doors for them.
Standing outside the castle was Huff, the butler who had greeted them the day before. He exchanged pleasantries with both before leading them inside the castle. Estelle eyed Huff's silhouette - a large man with a portly stature, he looked like he can fight.
Her gaze shifted from him as she surveyed the interior of the castle, its exterior aged with history but the inside modernized with contemporary decor and gadgets. Huff guided them onto an elevator that ascended to the seventh floor, through carpeted corridors, and stopped before a white arched door.
He knocked and then announced respectfully, "Sir, Mr. Brennan has arrived!"
"Let Mr. Brennan in," came a man's voice.
Estelle took a deep breath. She was about to meet the enigmatic Raiden. Who could it be?
