Raiden's eyes, dark as the endless night, were tinged with surprise. "I can't believe Rella actually woke up!" "Yes, even Professor Jackson is baffled!"

In a chilly tone, Raiden demanded, "Why the hell would Lynn help Rella?"

"He didn't say." Winston's voice was steady. "Professor Jackson suggested we lock him up in the freezer."

"Keep him for now. He's still of use to me," Raiden instructed.

"Yes, sir!" Winston responded promptly.

Raiden's voice, heavy with foreboding, echoed, "Put Rella's matter on hold for now. Keep a close eye on her; don't let her leave Zion. We need to handle Alvis first!"

Winston frowned. "Alvis hasn't given us any response. His men have completely taken over Citadel and they're spreading out. It won't be long before they might attack Zion! We're also in the dark about his motives. The leader wanted a face-to-face with Alvis, and even that got shut down!"

Raiden gazed into the blackness of the night, his usually somber eyes flickering with doubts.

What was Alvis after?

It didn't feel like it was just about the new energy source!

The next morning, Lambert went to check on Estelle.

Estelle was still asleep, so Lambert didn't disturb her and went to take care of his own business.

By noon, Estelle was still out. Standing by her bed, Lambert noticed her furrowed brow, her expression one of panic and fear, her forehead dotted with cold sweat.

He had never seen her like this before!

"Rella!" Lambert shook her arm gently.

"Rella, wake up!"

"Estelle!"

Lambert, growing anxious, shook her harder, "Come on, wake up, Estelle. You need to wake up now!"

Estelle jolted awake, her eyes wide open, bloodshot with terror.

"Rella!"

Lambert exclaimed with relief, reaching out to embrace her, but Estelle's face turned icy in an instant. She kicked out at Lambert and leaned back, guarded, like a cornered leopard ready to strike.

Lambert caught her kick to his neck, grimacing as he rubbed the spot. "Fortunately, you are weak now, with less than thirty percent of your strength. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to get out of bed for three days!"

Estelle was silent, her gaze frosty.

Lambert said, "It was me who saved you yesterday, remember?"

Estelle's voice was cold, "What have you and Raiden conspired this time?"

Lambert was taken aback, then said, "I'll admit I was an idiot to fall for Raiden's tricks, but I snapped out of it quick. I wouldn't have risked my own life to save you otherwise. Please believe me, I will never harm you again. I swear on God's name, no, I swear on the fate of the Brennan family!"

Estelle just looked at him impassively, silent.

Lambert knew gaining Estelle's trust again would be an uphill battle. He showed a self-deprecating smile. "I've caused you pain, and you're right not to forgive me. You should eat something; you're weak and need to regain your strength."

He turned to leave as he said, "I'll have the servants bring up some food. If you're still worried, I can taste it for you first!"

Estelle sat up in bed, her clear eyes cold, and touched her still throbbing head, curling up under the covers.

She longed for sleep but her gut screamed at her that she couldn't afford to.

Every time she drifted off now, there was a chance she might not wake up!

Lambert's words seemed true, but she couldn't trust him, not again.
