That evening, just as Flora and Connor were winding down for the night, Rafael called. "Flora, did you let Kaylee go?" he asked.

Flora arched an eyebrow, her hand resting comfortably on Connor's waist. "Why?"

"She's been a fan for years, finally got the chance to design something for me, and you let her go? She's probably crying her eyes out somewhere," Rafael's voice had an awkward edge to it. Flora smirked, intrigued. "Since when do you care about people crying?"

"It's not really that. She's close to you, so I thought I'd look out for her. Felt kind of bad, you know?"

"Oh, really now?" Flora's voice took on a teasing lilt as her fingers traced circles on Connor's side.

Connor tensed slightly; the tickling was getting to him.

"So, we're agreed? Have her come back tomorrow," Rafael pushed on.

"That's not happening."

"Huh?"

"You got it wrong." Flora replied lazily. "She came to me this afternoon and said she's done working with you."

There was a pause on Rafael's end before he spoke, sounding a bit taken aback. "Flora, you're saying she quit on her own?"

"Yep," Flora confirmed, her hand sneaking under Connor's shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin.

Connor's muscles tightened even more, his eyes deepening as he watched her with the phone.

"Well, she's got some nerve," Rafael muttered, clearly annoyed. "I'm hanging up."

"Alright—" Flora started, but Connor swiftly took the phone from her, ending the call as he leaned in closer.

"Mmm..."

Rafael tossed his phone onto the couch in frustration. He had assumed Kaylee was fired, but it turned out she resigned. Bold move.

He wasn't exactly sad to see her go, just a bit flustered. It was always him doing the leaving, not the other way around.

"You never liked Kaylee, right?

Thought she was too timid. So isn't her leaving a good thing?" Devin, his

agent, had overheard and

Rafael rolled his eyes. Kaylee was just too soft, always playing the doormat, and he couldn't stand it. She was an easy target when he was ima bad mood. Like today, when she got yelled at for being late with coffee.

"Don't tell me you're missing her," Devin teased, watching Rafael's expression change. "Are you nuts?"

Rafael shot him a look, and Devin wisely dropped it.

Rafael and Kaylee were polar opposites. Even though he didn't want her to go-since she was

being Rafael, he just coulael

but dislike her.

"Come on, relax. Have some water, cool down," Devin said, handing him a glass as Rafael continued to fume.
