Chapter 11

Commander Boris and Inspector Kevin arrive at the rehab center and Doctor Romuald leads them to Krist’s room.

Boris: Hello Krist, I’m Commander Boris from the drug squad and this is Inspector Kevin.

Krist looks at them with lots of questions in mind, trying not to let it show that he’s feeling bad.

Krist: Hello.

He makes the effort to sit down.

Krist: Can you tell me what all this means? He said, showing his handcuffs.

Boris: It was just a precaution.

Krist: a precaution, a precaution against what, the sociopath that I am, or the serial killer that I am?

Boris: a drug addict is just as dangerous when he is free.

Krist: I see. So that’s your job, judge people at first sight and give them an adjective.

Kevin: We acted on the evidence sir.

Krist: but what evidence, falsified evidence?

Boris: what if you explained to us what happened?

Krist: I guess you already have all the information about me but let me enlighten you further. I worked as an assistant manager at Bill’s company then I lost my job and I became a waiter at the 5★ restaurant but because of a small problem with the boss’s daughter, I lost my job. During my days of service, I had come across a gentleman who had left me his contact for a bigger job. So when I lost my job, I contacted him and he arranged to meet me at a bar around 6 p.m. So when I arrived, the man told me to deal drugs, which I categorically refused and left. But when I arrived near my house, I was attacked by two individuals whom I defeated, then two others arrived and grabbed me from behind, they blocked me and the other two beat me before killing me. choking on drugs that I breathed in, inhaled and swallowed. At that moment I was no longer myself and I was no longer aware of what I was doing so I found myself in the hospital, injured and then transferred here. I bet the doctor didn’t mention anywhere about the beating I received.

Romuald: Well, he didn’t get any blows.

Krist: Of course I made all that up.

Boris: what is the name of the gentleman who offered to deal drugs to you?

Krist: his name is Gauthier and now I think it’s a fake name.

Kevin: why do you say that?

Krist: I don’t have to be a police officer to know that when you do illegal business, you don’t use your real name.

Boris: do you have this man’s card?

Krist: of course but I have it at home.

Kevin: Do you remember this man’s face?

Krist: Obviously.

Boris: what is the name of the bar you were meeting at?

Krist: bar the fountain.

Kevin: This bar has surveillance cameras, so is it possible that you spotted this man?

Krist: Of course.

Boris: doctor, could he accompany us?

Romuald: I can give him a sedative but he won’t be lucid for a long time.

Boris: an hour or two will be fine.

Romuald: ok.

The doctor goes to get a medicine that will dissipate the effects of the first one he administered. After administering the medicine, Krist gets up well and with all his faculties. At the same time, his wife arrives while they are getting ready to leave. She falls into her husband’s arms with full of emotions.

Isabelle: how are you feeling my love?

Krist: I feel fine honey, don’t worry.

Isabelle: where are you taking him?

Krist: I’ll help them stop my attackers, you don’t have to worry.

Isabelle: but are you okay to go with them?

He therefore decides to accompany the brigade to the bar while his wife and Stella go home. They arrive at the bar and find the bartender.

Boris: view videos from your surveillance cameras.

Bartender: why?

Boris: to spot someone, a drug dealer.

Bartender: This man (Krist), he was selling bags of drugs here so security kicked him out.

Krist: what, he’s talking nonsense, I’ve never sold bags of drugs.

Boris: can we watch the videos?

Bartender: yes but for that, you would have to see Prosper.

Kevin: Who is Prosper?

Bartender: the bar’s computer guy, go upstairs and take the left corridor, go to the second door on the left, you will find the machine room.

Boris: ok.

They head towards the engine room.

Gauthier had gone to see Prosper in the engine room around 8 a.m. this morning.

Gauthier: hello Prosper.

Prosper: hello Mr. Gauthier, what can I do for you?

Gauthier: I need you to do me a rather delicate service.

Prosper: Whatever you want sir.

Gauthier: ok then, is it possible to put one person’s face on another’s?

Prosper: Of course sir, I can do it in no time.

Gauthier: great. I need you to put this man’s face on Bertrand’s who was selling drugs yesterday from 8 p.m. and who was kicked out by security.

Prosper: Okay, I’ll do it right away.

Gauthier: takes his face spotted on the cameras. I’m going to talk to the bartender too, you all need to accuse him of dealing drugs.

Prosper: Okay sir.

The drug squad and Krist arrive at the indicated door and knock on it. Prosper allows them to enter.

Boris: hello, are you Prosper?

Kevin: we are on an investigation and we want to view your videos recorded by the surveillance cameras.

Kevin: a drug trafficker, named Gauthier.

Prosper: Nobody sells drugs here. That’s why we installed cameras to spot anything illegal and last night we spotted this man (Krist) selling drugs so we kicked him out immediately.

Krist: why do you all want to condemn me for nothing, I didn’t do anything at all.

Boris: Show us the surveillance videos.

Prosper: Look for yourself.

They begin to watch the video and see that Krist is quietly selling drugs.

Boris: handcuff him, inspector!

Krist: no, no, you’re wrong, I didn’t do anything, it’s not me.

Kevin: Mr. Kristian, you are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say will be held against you in court. You have the right to a lawyer and if you cannot afford one, the state will appoint one for you.

Krist: you’re wrong, Commander, it’s a set-up.

Boris: copy me the video on this key.

Prosper: Right away.

Prosper copies the videos onto the drive while Kevin takes Krist outside in their car. Boris joins him and they return to the drug squad office.
