Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 127
Chapter 8 As he saw it, he'd lowered himself to come see me, so I should be thrilled, clinging to him with a sweet smile, then returning to his company and his side as the dutiful but unacknowledged "girlfriend" again.
Jason sneered at me. "I just didn't expect you to be so calculating."
I felt no pain anymore, only a heavy suffocation. This is what it was like to face a man who couldn't understand a word I said.
I rolled my eyes and got up to leave, but as I brushed past him, he gripped my wrist tightly.
"What's this? Running away now that you've been exposed?"
I exhaled, unable to shake him off, and looked at his irritated expression. "What is it that you want to say? If there's nothing, let go."
"I went back to the Moon Villa, Caroline. You've taken this too far," Jason said, his frustration no less than mine.
"Move back in."
It seemed he was trying to scold me, but after struggling with his words, all he could manage was this dry, half-hearted invitation.
Such an arrogant, half-hearted concession, as if he were doing me a favor.
I turned to him, giving him a mocking, charming smile. "Oh, so you miss me? Realized you're not adapting well after we broke up? Regret it?"
Jason didn't reply, but his grip on my hand only tightened.
"Where else can you go if you leave me? Caroline, maybe I underestimated you before, but understand this-my patience has its limits. You know the Wood family is after you, don't you? Right now, only I can protect you."
Slap!
My free hand came down hard on his face.
With disdain, kşneered, "I slapped Emily, but I should've slapped you instead. What makes you think you're anything special? You never protected me when I was at your side but now that it's all over you come running with this nonsense. Jason, aren't you pathetic?"
"Caroline!" he shouted, anger flaring in his eyes as he bit down on the side of his cheek. "This is your last chance."
I finally wrenched my arm free and walked away, flipping him off over my shoulder. "Eat dirt!"
After I left, the person who had
in
supposedly arranged the meeting hurried into the room and nodded at Jason, who had left the room shambles.
Jason loosened his tie, his voice cold as ice. "Did you find out anything?"
Assistant: "Mr. Parker, Caroline is just an ordinary person.
There's no trace of any background. Maybe you're overthinking it?"
"Better if I am." Jason pressed his tongue against his cheek. "Then let's teach her a lesson."
"Tell the Wood family not to hold back. Whatever happens, I won't interfere this time."
"Destroying a woman is simple. She'll come back."
No one knew how he felt when he returned to the empty Moon Villa, the rooms stripped bare. In that moment, all he could feel was
anger a strange, inexplicable rage. He needed somewhere to vent it.
At the airport, Jasmine and I hugged goodbye.
Her eyes filled with tears. "How long will you be in New York?
Or.. are you coming back at all?"
