Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 89
Chapter 13
Since Daphne disappeared from the Roberts estate, Matthew's heart had been shrouded in darkness, as if the sun would never rise again.
He meticulously restored the rose garden, which had once been filled with countless memories, but the familiar figure he longed for never returned. Meanwhile, under Jonathan's devoted care, Daphne finally returned to her family.
To her, this world felt completely new, and she approached it with the curiosity and wonder of a child.
As soon as she stepped through the door, her parents rushed to greet her with worry etched on their faces.
"Daphne, how are you feeling? Are you in any pain?" Gracie Walker, her mother, asked anxiously, her eyes already brimming with tears.
Daphne blinked her wide eyes, lightly scratching her head, her expression puzzled.
"Who... are you?"
The words pierced Gracie's heart like a dagger, shattering it to pieces. Unable to hold back any longer, her tears streamed uncontrollably as she pulled Daphne into a tight embrace. "My silly child, how could you do such a thing? Forget your own mom and dad?"
Her father, Bob Walker, stood beside them, his face pale with rage, clutching his chest as he stomped his foot.
"That Matthew! I won't let him get away with this! He ruined my precious daughter!"
Strangely, after the procedure, the hospital had immediately notified the emergency contact listed on Daphne's phone-her brother, Jonathan.
When Daphne first woke up in the hospital, Jonathan was the first person she saw.
Surprisingly, unlike with others, Daphne remembered Jonathan.
Though she couldn't recall her own name, the moment she opened her eyes, she called out, "Brother."
At first, Jonathan thought the procedure had failed. It wasn't until Matthew arrived at the hospital that Jonathan's suspicions were confirmed.
Perhaps it was because Jonathan had doted on his sister her entire life, treating her like a treasure, that he remained deeply ingrained in her heart.
Jonathan, three years older than Daphne, had been the first person she saw when she opened her eyes as a newborn. Now, after losing her memory, the first person she recognized was still him.
Just then, Daphne reached out her hand and gently wiped away the tears on Gracie's face. Playfully, she licked the wetness off her finger and frowned slightly.
"Ew, Brother, why are tears salty?"
Jonathan quickly stepped forward to calm their parents, reassuring them that he would personally care for Daphne until she fully recovered As Jonathan prepared to take Daphne upstairs to rest, she tugged on his sleeve and suddenly spoke. "Brother, I want to go to the beach."
"The beach?" Jonathan was surprised. His sister couldn't remember people, but she still remembered certain places?
"Alright, Brother will take you." Jonathan hesitated for a moment before smiling indulgently.
Jonathan had always granted Daphne's every wish. From childhood, anything she asked for, he would move heaven and earth to make it happen.
He went upstairs to grab a jacket and draped it over Daphne's shoulders before taking her hand and driving her to the beach.
The beach was about an hour's drive from the city. During the ride, Daphne marveled at the passing scenery, the wonder in her eyes resembling that of a child discovering the world for the first time.
When they arrived, Daphne immediately leapt out of the car and ran toward the shoreline, with Jonathan following closely behind to ensure her safety.
Since losing her memory, Daphne had become almost childlike.
Her eyes sparkled with clarity and innocence, free from the complexities they once held.
Sitting by the water, Daphne played with the sand, while Jonathan sat beside her, watching her intently.
"Daphne," he asked curiously, "why do you still remember me?"
Daphne, focused on shaping the sand, answered without hesitation:]
"Because you're the best brother in the world."
Jonathan couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness at her words. Deep down, he secretly thought that Daphne's memory loss wasn't all bad-except for forgetting their parents.
At least now, she wouldn't have to waste her days chasing after that scumbag Matthew.
