Forsaking the Years of Longing
Forsaking Billionaire 92

Chapter 16

The morning sunlight filtered gently through the curtains, softly waking Daphne.

Jonathan knocked on her door.

"Today's your first day at work. Don't be late!"

"I know!" Daphne called back, opening her eyes.

She dressed with care, her heart a mix of excitement and nervousness for the new chapter in her life, and set off for the Walker Group headquarters.

As they neared the company building, Daphne insisted on getting out of the car early.

"I don't want people thinking I got in just because of connections," she said firmly.

Jonathan shook his head with a wry smile.

"Fine, fine. But take this and eat your breakfast."

Daphne took the sandwich from him and walked confidently toward the office building in her heels.

Taking a deep breath, she composed herself, ready to face the challenges ahead.

With the help of HR, she quickly completed the onboarding process and was assigned to a small team in the Finance Department as a junior employee.

Upon entering the Finance Department, she was greeted by the sound of hurried footsteps and urgent discussions.

It turned out the department had just received an emergency task-to analyze a complex set of market data to respond to imminent stock market fluctuations.

However, Zoey, the colleague originally in charge, had fallen ill suddenly and couldn't continue the work. With everyone else swamped with their own tasks, the team found themselves in a bind.

"What do we do? The analysis has to be done in thirty minutes, or we'll miss the best response window!" the department manager exclaimed in frustration.

At that moment, Daphne stepped forward.

"Manager, let me try. I've studied data analysis and might be able to help."

Everyone turned to look at the new junior employee in surprise.

With no better options, they decided to give her a chance.

Daphne quickly took Zoey's place at the computer and opened the data files.

Drawing on her sharp analytical skills and keen understanding of financial markets, she began organizing the data and building models.

Her fingers flew over the keyboard, a silent yet mesmerizing performance of precision and focus.

With just a few minutes to spare before the deadline, Daphne completed the analysis report and presented her recommendations for handling the market fluctuations. The manager reviewed the report thoroughly and broke into a pleased smile.

"This is excellent! Your analysis is spot-on, and your recommendations are practical. Thanks to you, we were able to respond in time."

Her colleagues looked at Daphne with admiration, impressed by her ability.

"It's nothing. I was just doing my job," Daphne replied humbly.

"What's your name?" the manager asked with a smile.

"Daphne Walker," she answered politely.

"Daphne, welcome to the team!" The manager extended a hand warmly.

"Thank you, Manager. I look forward to learning from everyone,"

Daphne said with a polite smile.

The team applauded her warmly.

A nearby colleague whispered playfully, "Walker, huh? Same last name as the CEO. No wonder you're so talented!"

Daphne feigned ignorance.

"Really? Must just be luck," she said with a light laugh.

As the sun set, Daphne wrapped up her busy yet fulfilling first day of work. Her body was tired, but her heart brimmed with a sense of accomplishment. Elsewhere, Matthew was also throwing himself back into work.

He was en route to attend a product launch at a company located across the street from Walker Group. As he drove, a familiar figure flickered in his rearview mirror. Startled, he turned his head to look again, but the figure was gone.

"Was that Daphne? Or am I imagining things?" he muttered, doubt clouding his thoughts.
