POV

I released a breath I didn't know I was holding, and lay against my bedroom door. My heart racing against my chest... I was sure that John was about to explode, and I wasn't sure what he would do to me if he did... My gaze traveled over my bedroom, searching for my phone...

I had a feeling that John was about to do something to force me to leave...

When I found my phone lying on the dressing room table, I grabbed it, unlocked it, and clicked on the Instagram app. "Mmm," I wonder, "how will I word this..?"

I walked back to my bed, and took a seat, thinking...

I closed the apps and left my phone on the side table, then walked to the washroom.

"Uncle," I stopped him, "I think you misunderstood..."

"Kate, what are you implying?" He snapped.

"I want you to introduce me to all the employees as the shareholding director of the company, and to ensure that everyone of importance knows who I am, I want the company to arrange an welcoming party for me..."

John gritted his teeth and forced a smile, "Kate, I don't think you need an welcoming party at this moment. After all, you have just returned and your parents' affairs have just been settled. If you have an welcoming party at this time, it would look bad for your reputation..."

John's speech was cut off by my phone, and I turned and stalked toward my bed.

A tender smile played on the corners of my lips as soon as I saw the name on the display and pressed the answering button.

"Hi, Xavier," I greeted, sounding a bit more excited than needed.

I watched John from the side of my eye, and another smile followed on my lips.

John was focusing on our conversation...

As soon as John heard I mentioned his name, he lifted his head and swallowed hard.

Just as much as John wanted to have the shares my parents left me, he wanted to do business with Xavier. He was dying trying to close the gap between Black Umbrella Enterprises and the King's Group.

John's face suddenly changed and he smiled gently.

"Kate, is everything okay with Xavier? Does he need something?" John asked the moment I ended the call.

"No, all is fine with Xavier, he just wanted..." I was cut off by Erika storming into my room.

"You still dare to call Xavier after you shared your bed with some other man!?" She yelled and I narrowed my eyes at her.

Didn't she learn to keep her mouth shut?

"Look at the hickey on your nape! That is where your mate is supposed to mark you and you let another man touch you! You are a slut! A filthy slut! Now you want to seduce Xavier!? What makes you qualified? You are not even pretty enough! Is that what your parents taught you, to jump from one bed to another? I am glad your parents died. They would have been ashamed of you!"

I was boiling inside me, and I never saw it coming, before I lost control, John stepped forward, and slapped Erika so hard, that she landed on the floor, whimpering.

I stood frozen in shock... and watched the interaction between father and daughter.

"Father!" Erika gasped out, whimpering, her eyes big out of shock, "You hit me and that because of her? How could you?"

Blood oozed from the side of Erika's mouth, and Rose rushed to her daughter's side.

"She is your cousin," John roared. "Have some respect!"

Rose pulled Erika to her feet and pushed her out of my room before Erika said something more.

"Kate," John sighed and turned around, "I apologize for your cousin's outburst. She is still young and dumb. She will learn soon to control her temper. I will make sure she does. Don't be angry..." John said and closed the bedroom door behind him. "Was there anything Xavier wanted me to do?" He asked, "Just tell me, and I will help you achieve it!"

I couldn't help but smile, "Xavier said that once I start to work, he will consider doing some projects with us..."

"That's good to know!" He smiled.

"Yes, he also said that he hopes that you will help me arrange the welcoming party to announce my take over..."

John's mind wandered off and a broad smile followed on his lips.

I ignored it and continued.

"Just for interest's sake, and so you know," John found my gaze, listening intensively, "Xavier said he would make an appearance at the party..."

John's smile widened even more.

"Uncle?" I called him sweetly.

"Yes..." his gaze snapped at me.

"Don't forget to send out the invitation..." I told him, "I want this welcoming party to be held by next week Friday..."
