Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 48
Katherine's POV
"What happened?" I asked as I saw the girl on the floor in tears.
"The dress is ruined!" She cried hysterically and pointed to the dress. "Ashley is going to kill me!"
My gaze fell on the dress hanging against the closet door, and I took a few steps toward it.
My hand moved over the beautiful white satin material, and tears burned behind my eyes, seeing the holes that were cut in the dress and the skirt torn into thin strips.
I didn't need to guess who was responsible. Erika must have done it!
I didn't see her at the dance and thought that maybe she had left and accepted that Xavier didn't want her, but I never thought she would be this arrogant to destroy a dress Xavier had made for me. "How did she get in?" Kelly asked.
"I don't know," the girl answered between her sobs. "I had a call from the delivery company to collect the makeup from downstairs. When I got back, the dress was ruined."
"Do you have a spare dress?" I asked, hopefully. By this time, Xavier should be dressed and waiting.
The girl shook her head.
"The dress is specially made for you. There is no spare."
"Clever!" I sneered. It never crossed my mind that Erika was this smart. I wonder how she knew about the second dress. Did she have some help? Or was it just pure luck?
Erika was one step in front of me, yet I wasn't going to give up so easily.
"Go find Alpha Xavier," I instructed Kelly, "and tell him there is a problem with my dress."
Kelly nodded and rushed out of the room in search of Xavier.
I turned my attention back to the torn dress. My heart sank, feeling sorry for the dress. From what I could see, the dress was one of the best Ashley had ever made. She will be very disappointed to see what is left of it.
My gaze moved toward the girl, her face swollen from all the crying, yet I was pretty sure she was one of the assistants that helped with the measurements. Maybe she can fix the dress?
"Can you maybe mend the dress?" I asked the girl, hoping for a miracle.
"I can try, but I can't promise you it will look the same as the original design," she answered.
"It's worth a shot," I answered, and I took scissors to cut the sleeves shorter and widen the upper shoulders of the dress. I then tidied up the torn areas of the lower skirt.
The girl suddenly understood what I wanted and quickly sewed some important parts, such as the upper body, with a needle and thread.
Half an hour later, a new dress appeared.
"Although it can't be compared with the original one, the pattern is still similar," the girl stated, sounding relieved.
The door suddenly opened, and Kelly stood in the doorway.
"Luna," she said, panting, "I can't find Alpha Xavier. Greyson says that he has gone out and hasn't come back yet. I told him about the dress issue, and he said he would try and delay the proceedings." "Thanks," I said.
"I think we are done," the girl stated, getting up from her sewing machine.
She shook out the dress and hung it against the curtains.
It was way different from before, yet it had a certain WOW charm to it.
"I just need to steam the dress," the girl said. "Give me five minutes."
A knock on the door sounded the moment Kelly zipped the dress for me.
The girl opened the door, and Xavier walked in.
"The speeches have been delayed. What's the...?"
Xavier's gaze found mine, and he shook his head in disbelief.
"Is that the new dress?" Xavier asked in disbelief, looking at me.
Although the dress was a bit out of place in style compared with the previous dress, it had some sort of wild, sexy charm to it.
"The dress was destroyed, and we didn't have time to have a new one made. So I improvise. Anyway, the dress looked like this before I had my hands on it. I just fixed the major parts," I said while putting my shoes on. Xavier stared at me blankly, and I started to feel a bit uncomfortable under his gaze.
"Do mine as well," Xavier said, and he stripped himself of his clothes and gave them to the girl.
A few minutes later, Xavier, dressed in white, looked like some ragged model from a magazine.
Xavier looked at me and pulled me closer.
"Have Kelly change your hair and makeup; let it fit the dress."
I turned toward Kelly, and she gave me a taunting smile.
Oh, Goddess, this is going to be interesting.
When Kelly was done with my makeup, she started with my hair, changing everything to be more wild.
"It will fit in with the ball," she teased.
"Sure it will!" I answered, feeling a bit annoyed and excited.
There has never been anything done like this at an engagement party.
"All done!" Kelly said, and I turned my gaze toward the mirror.
Xavier released a wolf's whistle behind me, and a broad smile followed on his lips.
He took a few steps toward me and held out his hand.
"If only you knew how beautiful you look," he said.
"I feel like the Corps Bride," I teased, and I took his hand.
"If only you could see yourself," he simply answered, pulling me from my chair.
The second we entered the ballroom, the crowd of guests went quiet.
Xavier interlinked our arms, and we started to walk to the stage.
Surprised and confused gazes followed us, and then the guests started to gossip among themselves.
"Hell, they look like models," someone whispered, shocked.
"Wonder who made their gowns?" Another comment.
"No wonder they took so long, Ms. King had yet another transformation, and both are almost unrecognizable."
"I am not sure if I like her dress or not," someone said, "but she surely has the guts to wear that!"
My gaze landed on John and Rose standing outside the ballroom at the opposite exit, unconcerned about our grand entrance.
I pumped Xavier in the ribs, and he turned his gaze toward John and Rose. I concentrated and focused on their conversation.
"I have to say, our daughter is extremely clever at destroying Kate's dress," Richard said to Rose.
I slightly lifted my gaze in Xavier's direction and whispered.
"I was right; Erika got hold of my dress, and my so-called uncle knows about it."
"What else are they saying?" He asked and focused on the guests.
I focused again on their conversation.
"It seems like our daughter has some hidden talents," Rose said proudly.
"I will make sure she becomes the new heiress to King Enterprises," John said as he entered the hall.
I looked at Xavier and lifted an eyebrow.
"That bad?" he asked.
"Yes..."
We got onto the stage, and the guests applauded us.
John found my gaze, and he turned white as ash.
My gaze found Erika in the back of the room. Her face was white from shock, yet she shook violently in her spot.
"How is that possible?" She yelled, "I am sure Kate didn't have a spare dress!"
Yet the guests didn't mind her madness, and their gazes were pinned on us.
Greyson handed Xavier the microphone.
"Sorry to keep everyone waiting," Xavier said, "we had some wardrobe failures."
I took the microphone from Xavier.
"I guess everyone is surprised by what we are wearing. We want you all to give a round of applause to my cousin Erika for making this possible!"
The DJ turned the lights on Erika, and John stood next to her, shifting one foot to the other, looking like a deer caught in headlights.
"Let us all thank her," I said, and Xavier handed me a flute of champagne. "Otherwise, our clothes would have looked boring and plain, and we wouldn't have had such a great idea. Erika made this night memorable for all of us! Erika, this one is on you. Thank you!" I lifted the glass into the air, and the guest did the same and applauded.
The next second, all the attention was on Erika and my so-called family.
