Katherine's POV

The doorway of the King's Group Building was crowded with a group of reporters.

Dozens of security guards guarded the door and surrounded the gate, trying to keep the reporters at bay.

I was sneaking in and was wearing a long brown raincoat, some sunglasses, a scarf, and a summer hat to try and hide my identity.

I sighed, irritated, as I passed all the reporters. They were here for me, hoping to get a glimpse of me.

"These people are hungry for a story, and Ms. King is not even here," an employee groaned, annoyed, as she moved toward the side gate to enter the building. "What are they gaining by crowding in front of the reception area?"

"You don't understand," her friend argued. "I have heard that yesterday's incident was so wild that it wasn't even allowed to be broadcast on Life TV. No one believes the crap Mr. King is feeding us, and these reporters want to know the real story!" I walked behind them and subconsciously covered my face with a scarf and leaned into my jacket, hoping that no one recognized me.

The main entrance to the building was blocked off, and all the employees needed to enter by the side door.

I followed the two employees quietly but was stopped when I tried to enter the door.

"Where's your access card?" The security guard growled at me. "This is the staff-only passage area, and you can't enter without an access card."

The passing employees looked annoyed at me for holding up the line.

I sighed, frustrated, and slowly took off my glasses and revealed my identity.

The passing employees glared at me in shock. No one expected me to sneak in looking like that.

I internally sighed.

I had to sneak out of Xavier's house to come to work.

I refused to accept that Xavier kept me locked up. I had work to do, and I couldn't lose another day's work just because of my injury.

Xavier was pissed last night when I reminded him that I wanted to come to work, yet he argued.

"Your head is not healed yet. You need rest."

"I can rest when my family is behind bars," I growled back at him.

Xavier shook his head, and his eyes flickered between blue and black. Ray must have been pissed at my suggestion.

"You can enter, Ms. King," the security guard said, and he swiped his access card.

"Thanks," I said as I moved through the turnstile.

Sarah was shocked when she saw me.

"Ms. King, why are you at work? Didn't you say you were on sick leave?"

I ignored her question and went straight to the reason I came to work.

"I need the information from yesterday's project seminar," I told her.

Sarah frowned slightly and slowly got to her feet, looking a bit confused.

"Is there a reason why you are taking your precious time?" I growled at her. "Do you want me to go get it myself?"

I kept my movements calculated. I was scared that if my hat came off, someone would notice the wound on my head.

"No, no, Ms. King, I'll go get it for you!" After that, Sarah rushed to go get me the information I needed.

I left my office door open, and I listened to the gossip from the employees.

"Why did this crazy woman come to work? Why isn't she locked up in a mental hospital? Will she hurt people while being here?"

My mind raced to when my family tortured me.

The lashing of the whip coming into contact with my skin sounded in my ears, and a stray tear ran down my face.

If only these people knew how much my uncle and his family have tortured me.

The coffee cup slipped from my hands as the images of my aunt pushing me from the cliff flashed before my eyes, and the mug smashed into a million odd pieces on the floor. Startled, the employees' heads snapped in my direction, and I pretended to calmly search for the latest news about me on the Internet.

When I saw a photo that was posted online, my heart started to race, and I could feel the blood drain from my body, leaving me cold and gasping for air.

How could they do this to me?

My gaze snapped toward my door, where John, followed by security, entered.

When I saw John's hypocritical face, I wanted to rip him apart there and then. I hated him. I hated him and his family so much that I wished him dead there and then.

The photos that were posted on the internet were taken by Rose. She was the main culprit in every beating, electrocution, drowning, and whipping.

Moreover, there was a photo of me receiving electric shock treatment that was widely forwarded on the Internet.

I internally growled; these photos just reminded me of how much they have hurt me!

"Kate, how did you get in here? Didn't I tell you to stay at home? I suggest you leave and get some rest. You can't work and walk around with an injury to your head. What if you hurt yourself?"

Before I could say anything, John waved his hand to the security guard outside and said, "The ambulance is already waiting to collect Ms. Kate. They will take her to the mental hospital for proper treatment. She will be in good hands."

The security guards rushed in and pressed me against the table, humiliating me even more as they acted like I was some criminal.

"John, I won't let you get away with this!" I yelled at him as the security guard pressed my head against the table.

Yet the whole office burst out laughing, finding the situation amusing.

I ignored them. There must be a way out; I won't give up!

I was panting out of breath and out of anger, and the more I resisted, the more everyone thought I was crazy.

I took a deep breath and slowed my breathing and my heart rate.

I had a hunch that Rose knew I was faking my amnesia, but now I was living at Xavier's and wasn't under her control anymore.

As long as everyone believes that I am mentally ill, no one will believe me if I tell the truth.

At the same time, John issued two false statements to make me look bad and cover up the truth.

Just as the public found me innocent, several photos of my torture suddenly broke out, instantly overturning all previous evidence.

I sighed.

For a time, everyone thought that Xavier and I were manipulating everything in order to deliberately frame Erika and drive them away from the King Group. Erika's weak and gentle image at ordinary times also increases her chances of winning this public opinion

war.

Rose's move was really cruel.

Will I be able to get myself out of this, or will Xavier come to the rescue?
