Katherine's

POV

Excitement was audible in the air as the suppliers for the project started to arrive for our first official meeting today.

We, Xavier, Steven, and I met with them in the reception area, and Kelly helped them sign in.

Steven, who had learned to know where everything was, took the lead in front to show everyone to my floor. Xavier and I followed at a slower pace behind them.

"You are beautiful today," Xavier said, leaning in and whispering in my ear.

Yet I didn't hear him properly, as I was focused on everything around me.

I was excited and nervous! And it showed.

"What did you say?" I asked, feeling a bit embarrassed that I didn't hear Xahier clearly.

"Don't worry, it was nothing," he answered, seeing me occupied by my thoughts. "Are all the documents ready?"

I nodded, turned toward Sarah, and told her to take Steven and the suppliers to the conference room. I then grabbed Xavier's hand and led him to the office.

"Look," I said, giving him the documents, "that is what I did."

Xavier glanced at the paper and nodded.

"Steven informed me. Yes, you can continue."

With Xavier's approval, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

When I stood in front of the screen in the conference room with the documents, I looked at Xavier, and he nodded, urging me to continue. This was my first time doing a presentation alone, and I didn't want to embarrass him.

"In regard to the project, I have written two targeted plans and two preparatory plans. The main aim is to..." I was interrupted by a soft knock at the door, and I lifted my gaze. Sarah peeked her head in and found my gaze. I could see something was bothering her and that whatever it was was urgent.

I waved her in, and she rushed closer, leaning over toward my ear.

"Ms. King, Erika is here, and I can't stop her from entering the meeting."

Without another word, Erika pushed the glass doors open and entered with 12-cm-high heels and a super-short skirt. Her makeup was quite eye-catching, yet her cheap perfume was overpowering and strong.

As soon as she entered the room, all eyes fell on her.

"I apologize for the interruption; this is Erika, the project manager of our group." I introduced Erika.

Erika turned from side to side, greeting everyone with a smile.

"Hello, everyone," she said. "I'm sorry to disturb your meeting. I just came to hand Ms. King the agreement. My sincere apologies for disturbing you."

Erika bowed slightly, her cleavage was exposed, and the eyes of several supplier men were pinned on her breast.

I sighed, annoyed yet keeping my composure.

What was the purpose of this exercise?

My gaze landed on Steven, where he sat and watched Erika's little trick.

Xavier, on the other hand, had no interest in even having a peak. He casually turned to Greyson and asked him to switch on the air conditioners. This book has many missing chapters and scenes if you're not reading it on [J]obnib.c[o]m. Well, that's my cue," Erika said. "I will be leaving now. Bye!"

Erika waved at the suppliers and finally put her eyes on one of them. They looked at each other, and Erika winked and smiled.

The meeting went smoothly, and at one stage I thought that it wasn't as successful as I thought it would be, until the end when the applause sounded around me.

The supplier who made eye contact with Erika was the first to excuse himself and happened to find Erika on the stairs.

Several people who had just come out of the meeting stood in front of the gate and looked around, but there was no sign of the supplier.

Let's not wait," Greyson said. "Aaron just sent me a message saying that there was a problem at the factory."

I sighed, relieved that the day was over. Xavier and I waited for Greyson to take the car around and for him to leave.

"Erika was acting out of character earlier today," Xavier said. "I don't know what she is planning. Even though Erika isn't smart enough to create major disorder, you still need to be careful.".

I nodded.

"I know how bad she can be; you can rest assured that I am ready for anything she throws my way."

"That's good," Xavier said.

I was about to call it a day when my phone rang.

Odd, I thought when I recognized the number as one of the main suppliers who attended the meeting.

"Ms. Kate. It's Aaron speaking," the husky voice said, and I scrunched my eyebrows together, confused by his sudden call.

"Yes, Mr. Aaron, what can I do for you?" I asked and checked the time. It was already 7 p.m.

"When I returned to the office, I discussed the proposal with our board. I am willing to have you meet with them and discuss a contract. Will it be possible for you to meet and talk to them now?" "Mr. Aaron, it's late."

"Ms. Kate, I'm sure it won't take long. The main shareholder of our company is scheduled to depart for Europe tomorrow morning and return in only three weeks. This is the only chance you'll have before he leaves." I hesitated and stared blankly before me for a moment.

What do I say to him?

If what Aaron was saying was true, if I didn't attend the meeting, I might just miss out on a huge opportunity, and John might just find a way to use that excuse to get rid of me. I sighed.

I needed to get Aaron on board before John found a way to use him against me.

I haven't even found the time to deal with the other issues at hand. I have been so busy with these two contracts that I don't even have a second to spare.

At least the board agreed that I could open a new bank account for these projects.

That was just to ensure that the money was safe from John and that I was the only one to be able to control it.

After thinking it through, I replied.

"Very well," I said, "where do you want me to meet you?"

"I am emailing you the cooperation agreement and quotation, with the time and place." Then he hung up, and less than a minute later I received the documentation.

I retrieved my jacket and purse and headed toward the elevator. I called the driver and pushed the call button.

As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, Xavier called.

"I have an urgent meeting to attend," he said. "Should I pick up?"

"No," I answered, "I just remembered that something was not implemented properly and some of the documents are still at Sophia's. I am on my way to her to go and fetch them. I will see you later. Don't worry." With that said, I cut the call, hoping Xavier wouldn't find out that I had just lied to him.
