Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 76
Xavier's POV
The next morning, a video of the fight in the club was making the rounds on the Internet; the footage showed Kate being forced down by the man and me losing control and punching him, knocking him out.
Yet again, it gained a lot of attention.
I sighed.
"I don't care," I said, "you are not doing your work properly," I growled over the phone, watching the footage of last night's events.
Greyson hurried in, looking a bit pale, and I cut the call.
"What did you find?" I asked.
"Xavier," Greyson hesitated with the USB in his hand, "this USB we took from Scarface..."
"Yeah? What about it?"
Greyson swallowed hard before he continued.
"There is a video of Erika..."
I cocked my head to the side, looking at Greyson, confused.
"A sex video," he said, clearing the confusion.
"That's sneaky," I said, amused. "I guess Erika doesn't know that he made a video of their time together."
"Seems so," Greyson said, disgusted.
"Can you see her face clearly?" I asked, thinking of a plan.
"Yes, very clearly," he answered, turning the tablet so that I could see.
I shivered and nodded, and Greyson pulled the USB from the tablet slot and handed it to me.
Disgusted, I threw the USB into a box.
"Have the reporters informed that I will have a press conference this afternoon."
Greyson nodded and hurried out.
It was after lunch when I called Kate to check up on her; she had been moaning throughout the night, and I was about to do the press conference. Everyone was waiting for me. "Are you awake?" I asked, and she answered.
Kate moaned over the phone, and I guess she had a hangover from all the alcohol that was forced down her throat.
"I am," she answered, and she moaned. "Are you busy?"
"No," I said, "I am preparing to hold a press conference. Last night's events were made into videos and posted to the Internet. I am holding a press conference to clarify what happened."
"I am just calling to let you know not to worry, and if someone calls from work, not to answer. I will handle everything."
"Very well," she answered, and sighed, "Did you find out who set me up?"
"We'll discuss it when I get back," I said, and I cut the call.
"Send Ms. Kate the link to the press conference," I told Kelly. She nodded and disappeared behind the curtain.
I pulled my clothes straight and walked onto the stage.
Cameras flashed nonstop as I took my place behind the podium.
"Good afternoon, everyone," I said, greeting the fifty off-duty reporters. "As you all know, there was a little incident last night, and we want to clear the air."
"Mr. Back, Mr. Back, I'm a reporter from Capital Weekly. Could you please give us some kind of explanation of why your fiancee would visit such places and have a drink with an unknown man?"
"First of all, my fiancee didn't go to the club by herself; she was brought by me. The owner of that club is my friend, and I brought my fiancee to visit. Besides, my fiancee had never been to such a place before, and to satisfy her curiosity, I took her with me. But I didn't expect such a thing to happen to her."
"How is your fiancee's mental state now?" Another reporter asked, "I heard that the heir of the King Group did not go to work today. Have you visited her?"
"Of course, I have seen her." I answered smiling, "Her mental state is not bad, but she is a little rattled by the event, but after the press conference, I will go back to check on her. And by the way," I added, as the audience burst into a sigh. "She lives in the next room to me now, so it is much more convenient."
As soon as I said those words, the questions changed and focused on our relationship.
"Although your behavior in saving your fiancee is that of a hero, you did put someone in the hospital. Can you comment on that?"
I became quiet behind the podium, and the room quieted down.
"Yes," I answered and lifted my gaze, looking at the reporter who asked the question, "Although he hurt my fiancee, I have taken responsibility for my actions, and my assistant has paid his medical expenses. This book has many missing chapters and scenes if you're not reading it on [J]obnib.c[o]m. When he wakes up, he will be questioned, and a case of assault will be opened against him. I will have the law run his cause."
After the press conference, I sat behind my desk and had some coffee.
Greyson had gone to the hospital, and I was waiting for his return.
"Xavier," Greyson called from the door, "is awake!"
I nodded in response.
"Is everything ready?" I asked, feeling Ray scratching and wanting to be let loose.
He nodded in response.
At the side door of the hospital, I flashed a card to get access to the ward I wanted to go to. I quietly moved toward his room.
When we entered, Greyson and I, the man who attacked Kate, were sitting upright in his bed.
He immediately recognized me, and he started to panic.
"Don't kill me, please!" He begged, "It has nothing to do with me; Aaron told me to do this!"
"Aaron?" I asked, surprised. "Aaron who?"
The man was lying in bed, shivering nervously, almost in tears.
"It is Aaron, one of the suppliers for the King Group.
"He said that his girlfriend's sister was single and she was looking for a boyfriend. When we went out to dinner, he introduced her to me."
My mind raced, searching for who this Aaron character was, when I suddenly remembered Greyson telling us he had an urgent issue at the company he needed to attend to.
"Who is his girlfriend?" I asked.
"I don't know the name, but I've heard Aaron call her Erika... Oh yes! She was in the news recently about wanting to kill her sister!"
A video of his press conference appeared on the news. When the man saw a picture of me and Kate being displayed, he turned white out of shock and broke out in a cold sweat, soaking his hospital gown. "That... I..."
The man hesitated for a few seconds, bewildered, to find a way out of the situation, then he turned to his jacket and pointed to it.
"Hand me my phone, please," he said, and I scrunched my eyebrows together.
I nodded, and Greyson dug into the man's jacket pockets, looking for the phone.
Greyson handed the phone to the man, and he unlocked it and gave it to me.
"There is footage and photos of the woman called Erika on my phone," he said. "Why?" Greyson asked.
"Because," he said, "she was quite a naughty girl and was accompanied by a few high-class bosses. Aaron is not her only one."
I winked at Greyson, and he took the phone and started to browse through the contents of it.
Sure enough, Greyson found hundreds of erotic photos secretly taken of Erika.
I gave him a look of disgust.
The man bowed his head, somewhat embarrassed, and explained.
"That," he said, gesturing to his phone, "was taken by other people and passed to me."
"Show us the videos," I demanded, and I tossed the phone to the man.
The man scrolled and handed the phone back to me.
I gave it to Greyson without looking at it.
"See if it's the real deal," I said, and Greyson left.
Greyson returned a moment later, looking disgusted and nauseous. Was he about to get sick?
When the man saw my face slightly soften, he asked if I would let him go.
"It all depends on how clean you are," I answered, getting up.
