“Sir, Boris Petrov sent your son’s body home. He says you need to forget about the bracelet, or you will end up like Yuri. He warned you to keep away from his daughter,” Vadim Morozov’s security informs him.

“My son is dead! Is my Yuri dead at the hands of Boris Petrov? The stupid boy! He should have known better to go and look for trouble with Petrov! I hate the Petrov family!” Vadim Morozov shouts. He is sad for his son, but he knows he can do nothing about it. Petrov is too powerful.

“I will make him pay—a child for a child. I will go after his precious daughter and make sure to avenge my son!” Vadim thinks to himself.

“Yuri went after Jennie, who had the bracelet now, and the Italian Mafia got involved. All the men Yuri hired to break into her and the Italian mafia killed them. The stories are that the Godfather of the Italian Mafia got involved himself. Casella was there himself, and he killed the gang Yuri hired,” The security tells Vadim, afraid he will go after Jennie and gets killed himself.

Vadim Morozov’s financial manager knocks on the door as they talk. Vadim stepped on many people to get to the top, and he was always at war with Boris Petrov to become richer than him. Everyone knows that Petrov is involved with the Russian Mafia, but that never stopped Vadim from going after Petrov. He looks up at his financial manager and can see that the guy has some bad news for him.

“Sir, your stocks are dropping. Petrov sells all his stocks in your business, making other shareholders panic and sell. We are losing a lot of money, sir. What should we do?” The financial manager asks.

“It looks like Petrov wants me on my knees! That bastard! I will have to call him and apologise, but I will avenge my son one day. However, I will have to forget the bracelet for now! I have such an extensive collection of the antiques of Catherine the Great. I only need that bracelet to complete my collection, but I guess I will die without ever completing it. Morozov married a young woman after he kicked out his wife of twenty-eight years. She was getting too old, and he liked the young and beautiful things surrounding him. He does not even know where she and his eight-year-old daughter are. He does not care as he has no use for an older wife and a daughter. Vadim always only wanted sons. He picks up his phone and calls Petrov.

“Vadim, I was waiting for your call,” Boris says. He knew Vadim very well, and all that Vadim worried about was his sons and his business.

“I will forget about the bracelet and not go near your daughter. Let my business go,” Vadim says.

“Hmm, you do not sound too happy, Vadim. Are you afraid your young wife will leave you once you go bankrupt?” Boris can not help to tease him. But of course, everyone knows that Vadim kicked out his wife and little daughter for the sake of his younger model and even had a grand wedding.

“Why are you jealous?” Vadim hits back.

“No, Loraine is still ten times the woman that little floozy of you are. So you want me to stop going after your businesses? Don’t you think your attitude is a bit strange? It would help if you begged me to stop. Your stupid son put my daughter’s life in danger, and I killed him myself. So you think I am not powerful enough to have you bankrupted by tomorrow morning?” Boris asks. Vadim shivers. He knows what Petrov is capable of. He can bankrupt the Morozov company with a snap of his fingers. Vadim has tried to catch up with Petrov for years, but Petrov is so rich no one can touch him. He is one of the wealthiest men in the world, and Morozov’s worth is not even a drop in the bucket for Petrov. For years he has kept himself blind to that fact and pretended he could move in the same circles as Petrov, but today he realises Petrov can destroy him without blinking an eye.

“Petrov, please, I beg of you, do not destroy me,” Morozov begs.

“Tell me, how much money did you give your ex-wife and daughter?” Boris asks.

“That is none of your business. It is my private business,” Vadim says.

“Fine, I will stop selling your shares, but I gave your wife half of my shares,” Boris says, laughing. He knows Morozov, and Boris knows Vadim would hate that his ex-wife has shares in his company.

“Where did you find her?” Morozov asks.

“None of your business and I will also not tell you where she and your daughter is, and this is a warning to you, do not go looking for them, or I will ruin you,” Boris says.

“So you are letting me off the hook because of my ex-wife and daughter? Do you want them to have a better life? That woman wanted to have a young daughter at her age. Please don’t assume that it is my fault. She can take care of the child,” Vadim says.

“I don’t care who wanted the child or not. You are the child’s father, and you should take care of her at least. Besides, Eva was always a good wife to you. She did not deserve the way you treated her. There is also rumour of your young wife having affairs all over town,” Boris laughs at Vadim again. He likes toying with the small-time guy that thinks he is in the same league as the Petrov family.

“Nonsense, Diana will never cheat on me. You are just trying to anger me. But for old time’s sake, Boris, can you let my company go and not give all my shares to Eva?” Vadim begs again.

“I will let your company go and even buy back the shares. However, what I give Eva is my prerogative. You stay away from my family, or your sons will not have anything to nothing to inherit one day. You may think you are a big shot, but for me, you are nothing but a bug I can step on and destroy in a day, so take this as a warning, Morozov. I will not play with you next time. You already lost one son. You do not want to lose all of them. Do you?” Boris says and hangs up. Boris is angry as he thinks of seeing Eva, that stood by Vadim all her life working as a cleaning lady at the airport. Boris and Loraine knew her as she always came with Vadim to functions, and although she is middle-aged, she is still a beautiful woman. Eva did not deserve to be treated by Vadim the way he treated her. Eva was from a wealthy family, and Vadim took all her family’s money to put into his business. She trusted him and thought he would never leave her. Instead, Vadim left her without any money. Eva has to work as a cleaner at the airport to support herself and her daughter.

Eva gets home to the tiny apartment she is renting for her and Catherine. She thought Vadim would love his daughter if she called her after his idol, Catherine the Great, but that never happened. Vadim did not care for his daughter and even shouted at Eva when he saw the girl’s name. Vadim told her that no woman deserves to be called Catherine, not even his daughter. Nevertheless, he tolerated her and her daughter. Then one day, he said to her that he was in love with his secretary and that she and Catherine needed to get lost. At first, Eva refused to sign the divorce papers saying she got nothing. Then he threatened her with Catherine and said he would keep Catherine and send her to a boarding school in a country far away from where Eva will never see Catherine again. He never called Catherine by her name and only called her ‘that girl’, making Eva sad. She signed the document and left with her daughter. They were only allowed to take their clothes.

“Hi, mommy. How was work today?” Cathy asks. Eva calls her little girl Cathy. Eva smiles.

“I had a good day at work. How was school?” Eva asks. Cathy’s eyes drop to the books in front of her. She was clever. She studies hard as she one day wants to look after her mommy. But unfortunately, the children at school are ruthless. They always tease her about her father, that kicked her and her mom out on the streets. So she does not tell her mommy as she does not want her mommy to worry about her.

“It was fun,” Cathy says. She looks up and smiles at her mother.

“That is good. What do you want to eat tonight?” Eva asks. She looks at the little food and hopes Cathy does not want something she can not make.

“Anything, mommy, will be delicious,” Cathy says. She knows her mother does not have much to choose from. So she eats what her mother makes. Then, there is a knock on the door, and Cathy opens the door. In front of Cathy stand two wealthy-looking people. Cathy hopes it is not people that want to kick them out of their small apartment again. They have moved around a lot as their mother could not pay rent sometimes.

“Hello, Catherine, is your mother home?” The big man asks. Cathy looks up at Boris and shakes her head. Eva comes walking out of the kitchen when she hears the voices. She has not paid her rent yet, and she thinks it is the landlord.

“Boris, Loraine? What are you doing here?” Eva asks as soon as she sees them.

“We are here to give you what belongs to you and Catherine. He hands her a bank card with a pin number and the paperwork of the shares he bought for her. I sold the shares in Morozov’s company, and then when the stakes were low, I repurchased them. The money on the card is the profit I made. The shares belong to you and your daughter. You now own twenty-five percent of the stocks in Morozov International. You will get money from the company every month, and there is nothing Vadim can do about it,” Boris says.

“Please come in. We can not talk here in the doorway,” Eva says. She is shocked that Boris and Loraine came to see her and Cathy. She can not take in what Boris just said. Boris and Loraine walk in and see the old furniture and the apartment almost falling apart. Boris feels like he can go and grab Vadim by the throat.

“It is your money that bought those shares. I can not take it,” Eva says.

“No, it is Vadim’s money that bought it. I made a lot of profit from him in the last few years. However, I did not know how he treated you and Cathy, and I want to return to you what is rightfully yours,” Boris explains.

“You have to think of Cathy and her future, Eva. Take the money and the share and buy you and your daughter a nice house where Vadim can not get his claws in you,” Loraine says. Tears form in Eva’s eyes. She never thought someone would be so good to her and her daughter.

“Thank you. I don’t know why you are so good to us. When Vadim kicked us out, he knew I had a degree in business management, but he blocked me from getting a job all over town. So I had no choice but to work at the airport as a cleaner to provide for myself and my daughter. So Cathy and I will leave town, and Vadim will never see us, but I will use the money the shares bring in to provide for my daughter and later send her to university. Thank you for giving us a new chance in life,” Eva says. Boris and Loraine stay for a few minutes, and Boris reminds Eva to leave as soon as possible. He knows Vadim, and he knows Vadim will use Cathy again to get the shares back from Eva.

That night mother and daughter use the money in the bank card to slip away into the dark of the night, get on a plane and leave the country. Vadim is furious when he looks for them the following day and can not find a trace of them. Not even at the airports. It is like they disappeared. Boris must have helped them! The board of directors will make him pay them their share every month as Eva owns twenty-five percent of the company. She has more shares than he has, and she can take the company over one day. She is the biggest shareholder as Boris also owns twenty-four percent of the stake, and the rest is divided between Vadim and his sons. Vadim has four sons left. Each has ten percent, and Vadim has eleven. Boris smiles as he plans to give all his shares to Cathy the day she graduates, and she can take down her father and brothers.
