His Luna’s Already A Luna -
Chapter 31
Nick POV
Watching Lucinda size up one of his un-mated she-wolves in the dining room, Ky'ra right there with her, didn't impress him at all. She hadn't even been in the pack for a day and was already looking for a fight. His eyes moved to the she-wolf in question. She had been one of his previous partners, but he'd only had s*x with her a couple of times. Didn't think much of it at all, just annoyed by her sudden bout of aggression towards one of his pack members.
That was until Kevin started using his Gamma Charm on her, after she had nearly stabbed him with her fork completely out of the blue, he'd been about to yell at her for her actions when Jeremy stopped him with a hand on his arm. 'Boss wolf mates are extremely possessive, Ky'ra will likely rip that she wolf apart. he's said down the mind-link.
Nick had glanced at Braidy 'look at the she-wolf in question, boss!
Nick turned to look at her again, Valerie, and she was looking rather smugly at Lucinda. s**t. He had admonished his Mate for becoming possessive of him, and Valerie looked liked she was clearly getting away with whatever, due to their past. Damn it. 'Valerie' he snapped at her through the link 'that is your Luna, you're testing. Unless you want me to punish you, or her too. ENOUGH.
He watched her eyes drop away from Lucinda. 'Yes, Alpha' she acknowledged. Her tone was compliant but there appeared to be anger still in her expression.
Kevin using his Gamma Charm on his mate was interesting to see. He knew the man being a Gamma had the gift, but had never actually seen him truly use it. Was surprised to see it work so easily, and that accent that had come out of him was new as well. Lucinda had shaken her head, didn't seem to know what had happened or why, she was no longer angry or even upset. It appeared that even Ky'ra had been subdued by his Charm.
A very neat trick indeed. Will likely come in handy when Ky'ra was cranky or Lucinda ticked off at him. He would have to remember that. The angry retort about who Valerie was to him kind of made him happy. She was jealous, he liked it, that she was possessive of him already. But sizing up a she-wolf was a no go.
He watched her storm off and throw her dishes in the sink. The two omega's over there had backed out of the way before she had even gotten to the sink. It made him wonder how many in the room realised just what was going on. When he glanced around the room, many were watching their future Luna.
He got up and grabbed her around the wrist before she could run off somewhere. Not currently a member of his pack, he'd have to use Rip to scent her out. Didn't know how that would go down, to be honest.
So if she wanted to go out of the dining room, he might as well show her around the pack.
He was actually looking forward to showing her around. Was proud that he had been able to turn it around and clean it up after the mess his father and brothers, particularly Liam, had created when he'd been the Alpha.
Now his pack members felt safe and were happy and contented. He'd built and updated homes and was currently getting their school redone. A full wolfen school, so the pups wouldn't have to leave pack territory and be out in the human world. It would be catering from age 5 to 18.
He'd manage to bring in two more doctors so that all pack members had access to medical care, often needed for the young ones, only those with wolves could heal on their own, and sometimes even then, if the injuries sustained were severe, a pack doctor or surgeon was needed. And having a large pack of nearly 2000 wolves, he needed as many doctors as he could get his hands on.
Not something Liam had ever cared about, that man had been a selfish bastard who didn't care about his pack members at all.
Nick walked her down into the town centre, about 4 kilometres from the pack house, a nice walk along a tree-lined street, showed her that there were cafes and restaurants to eat at, a movie theatre, but there was also one of those in the pack-house too. It was unlikely he would bring her down here, just use the one in the pack-house.
Showed her to the shopping centre, so she could do some shopping if needed, though he didn't take her inside, she could investigate it further on her own. It was filled with only the stores that his wolves liked, and high end labels for his ranked wolves. Everything for the mall was ordered on line and delivered via a wolfen delivery company.
He had an alliance with their pack. Most packs did. It was one of the only packs to constantly be in the company of all other packs. They were the Crescent Moon Pack and one of the largest in the country, almost double his at last count. Every pack that needed human world deliveries used them.
Nick introduced her to people along the way, as they walked around the pack. He had realised she had stopped talking at some point. Thought she was a bit overwhelmed, it was a lot to take in, he knew, but she would find her way around and settle in soon enough. It was lunch time before he knew it. He pulled a chair out for her and she sat down without hesitation, while he went to get her something to eat. Not that she had touched it. She had not said anything about the pack or what she'd thought of it, he had expected some sort of response from her, and her lack of response or even opinion on something she was about to be a part of, half responsible for according to what he had read, annoyed him. He was very proud of all he'd built and achieved here.
When he'd asked her what was wrong she just mumbled something about being tired. But it was Kevin that got his attention. He watched his Gamma, technically her Gamma. He was now responsible for her complete safety when Nick wasn't around, she was his job. Kevin touched her arm gently and looked at her with full concern.
He knew Kevin wasn't trying to do anything, it was his natural Gamma instincts telling him that something was wrong, she was his charge to protect that much Nick did know about Gamma and Luna's, Kevin felt that something was wrong with his Luna. He was already attuned to her, it seemed. She'd turned away from him too.
When she'd asked if she could go and unpack a part of him, was happy again. But Kevin's reaction to her was bothering him more, something was off with her, he just didn't know what. Asking her had gotten him nowhere, she didn't want to talk about it or didn't care to tell him, no trust yet.
Taking her into his office to give her the code to their suite. Only he and his unit had it, plus the one Omega in charge of cleaning in there, an older mated she-wolf, someone he'd known and trusted since he was a boy.
Watched her look about, saw her look at the two covered pack maps in his office. They weren't normally covered over, but seeing as the way she'd come to his pack, he didn't want her looking at where the Half Moon Pack was and trying to bolt for it, the minute she was alone and away from him.
When he thought he could trust her not to run away from him, he would show her. As the crow flies, they weren't that far from her old pack just 3 hours run at full speed in wolf form. Nick knew that if she and Ky'ra really wanted to leave, Ky'ra would cross that rogue territory without hesitation, she didn't seem to fear much at all and was an amazing fighter. He'd seen her being savage and brutal. Nothing stopped her. Therefore, he also knew that a rogue or two on her run away back to their old pack would not bother her, probably enjoy it. She was aggressive.
Saw her absently rubbing at her wrist, the one he'd had hold of all morning, and frowned, that couldn't be a coincidence. Found himself more than curious, she'd been off at lunch even Kevin had picked it up "What's wrong with your wrist?"
"It hurts." she'd told him and he knew she wasn't lying
He'd tried to check it for himself, even Rip wanted to see it for himself. Nick a had a nagging feeling that he didn't like, welling up inside of him. She dodged him when he tried to check it for himself 'for the love of the Goddess. he thought to himself, turned and used his wolfs speed to grab her around the waist and bring her back against him so he could check the wrist himself. Pulled up the sleeve.
There around her wrist was his hand print. Rip snarled inside his mind 'you hurt our mate.' her skin was so pale that even the faintest mark on her would been seen. "I'm sorry." fell out of his mouth instantly as guilt welled within him very quickly, he had not intended to hurt her, to hold on to her so tightly. "I didn't realise I had such a tight grip on you." He let her go instantly he didn't want her to think he would try and hurt her again, and he had just yanked her against him with his wolfs speed so she couldn't get away from him. It had angered her too. She'd snapped at him.
It was no wonder she was so quiet at lunch or from half way through the pack tour. He had been causing her pain, and hadn't even known it. Kevin had picked up on something wrong, but she hadn't talked to him either.
When he'd asked her why she hadn't said anything she'd just shrugged. That had bothered him instantly for he knew how aggressive she and Ky'ra could be. If both of them were quiet on the subject of being hurt, he didn't think it was a good thing at all. Calm before the storm maybe.
She seemed to pick up he'd covered the pack maps, so had told her the truth that he didn't think she needed to see them at this point. Nick didn't want her running off to her old pack, and he may have just given her reason to.
He gave her the code for their suite and when she asked if she was allowed to go by herself he wanted to say of course she could. If she was going to unpack he was happy about that. He'd started to offer her an omega to help her unpack but she'd cut him off mid sentence and informed him she didn't need any help, then simply turned to leave his office.
He'd told her he didn't mean to hurt her, she just glanced at him and her wrist then nodded and left the room.
Rip was furious with him over it, Nick wasn't happy about it either to be honest. Although he had apologised the instant he knew what he'd done and had truly meant it, her lack of response concerned him. Her lack of response had ticked Rip off if they weren't one he was pretty sure the beast would be ripping into him right this minute.
This was not the first impression he had wanted to make, he'd thought a tour of the pack and introducing her to some of the residents and important people would help her feel secure in her position and show her he wanted her here. But now it seemed all he'd done was hurt her physically.
He was still standing in the middle of the room frowning, trying to figure out how to fix it, when his unit walked into the office.
"Kevin what did you get from her?"
"Pain." he said straight forwardly "Your car will take a few days to fix by the way."
Nick nodded, he didn't really care about the car right now.
"What's with the look Nick?" Jeremy asked perceptive as ever, he may be the biggest trouble maker, but not much got past him either. A great Beta.
"She has a hand print around her wrist, my hand print at that." he rubbed his hand over his face "Apparently I held onto her to tightly and bruised her."
"That is not going to go in your favour Nick." Jeremy said "you have got to remember how strong you are."
"I didn't even realise I'd held on to her that tight."
"So did you walk her around the pack? Or drag her?" Kevin asked pointedly, looking directly at him with a deep frown marring his face. Nothing ever seemed to bother this man, yet here he was frowning at Nick.
Nick sighed, he honestly didn't know the answer to that question but it wasn't looking like he was going to like the answer "I walked." and he had.
"Did she?" Jeremy asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"What?"
"Come on Nick, she's tiny. I've seen you walk when on a mission, your strides are...well..."
"Just great." Nick muttered, she'd said she was tired, he'd likely dragged her around with his excitement to show her. He'd not taken into consideration that she might not be able to keep up with him, he just expected people to keep up with him, he was the Alpha after all. He'd also seen how fast she could move too at times.
"A good start then boss!" Jeremy said taking a seat.
"This won't help." Braidy said. Tapping the covered pack map.
"I don't want her knowing how to run back to her pack the day she arrives."
"I don't think she will run off boss." Jeremy piped up "if she was going to do that, wouldn't have packed her bow. To cumbersome to run with."
"Where is she?" Kevin asked him.
"Our suite unpacking, I offered to have someone help but she refused."
"You mind if I go and check on her? Try to build a proper Luna, Gamma rapport" he asked.
"Go ahead." Nick nodded, someone had to and who better than her Gamma. He might be able to coax out of her how she was actually feeling.
Nick walked over and sat down at his desk "Did you apologise?"
"Of course I did." Nick muttered, why would Jeremy think he wouldn't.
"Did she bite you over it?" Jeremy asked with a half laugh.
Nick just shook his head, "That actually bothers me more, no response to it at all. I don't even think she was going to tell me about it."
"Curious." Jeremy nodded "I'd be watching for some sort of backlash then."
Nick didn't think that was going to happen, something else was bothering her on that front.
"Have you spoke to your grandmother yet?"
"Yes, we can go and visit her tomorrow, after lunch."
"Alright." he nodded.
"She said you had to bring cake or cookies."
"Organise it."
"Already have, a fully loaded wolfen Rum cake and her favourite Black and White cookies, with the addition of white rum. The head chef assures me, it will all be ready by 10am tomorrow." "Wolfen loaded rum cake?"
"She's old and likes rum." Jeremy laughed. "um..."
"Yes Jeremy."
"I should warn you, she'd not a fan of your family."
"Who is?" he sighed "I'm not like them Jeremy, you know this."
"I know this...but still, she won't be nice to you I imagine. A little harsh on you. Cranky old wolf she is."
"Why'd she move out there, to the north, nothing up there but the lake."
"Exactly why, the lake is quiet and out of the way."
"Not many wolves isolate themselves, Jeremy?" he didn't like it, he had once tried to get Jeremy to get her to come live in town, and if he recalled correctly had told Jeremy to relay her words exactly 'Tell that Alpha to shove it! "I know, where pack animals."
"Do you know why? She's out there all by herself."
"I do." Jeremy nodded and sighed, looked at him "My father was just as much of a bastard as yours was. She's my mothers, mother."
"Right." Nick understood his meaning "So she secluded herself, when your mum died then!"
"Yes." he nodded.
"What's one more she-wolf, that's mad at me." he sighed.
Jeremy laughed "Oh this one will try and take your head off, no regard to your Alpha status, hence the fully loaded cake and cookies." "Just great." he leaned back in his chair "perhaps I should take a case of wolfen rum too."
"Couldn't hurt." Jeremy laughed.
