His Mute Luna -
Chapter 12
Morgan
I had said it in the heat of the moment.
After that k**s and my wolf begging me to invite her home, I had had a surge of confidence that was now melting into some mild panic. I had never brought a woman to my house, at least not in this context…where something more might happen. And just that k**s alone had been better than anything I could have imagined…what would more feel like?
While that thought had my mouth feeling dry, my wolf was bristling with anticipation, the horny bastard.
‘Hey! I don’t have anyone to link with in this. June is as much my mate as she is yours,’ Mars argued.
Our wolves’ spirits could link with each other, especially mates, which were a much stronger connection. It was how our souls identified its counterpart in another. It worked a little differently in other species, but with a human? This was new territory.
I could feel there was some part of her that my wolf was drawn to. Something that he was connecting to, deep down. She was definitely human, I could smell it. But how her and Tom were found wasn’t exactly commonplace. I was a little surprised no-one whispered about it around the pack; everyone liked to gossip. I hadn’t asked about her neck yet; I had a feeling that the covering was hiding something, the reason she was unable to speak. Maybe once she felt a little more comfortable around me she would share that part of herself. Maybe we could figure out how she and Tom were found with no memories…and why Tom’s wolf had never emerged. Had something similar happened to June? There was no trace of wolf or vampire scent about her and though wiccans smelt human, intuitive wolves could pick up on the innate power wiccans possessed, but neither my wolf or I could sense that from June.
She was a complete and beautiful enigma. One that although I wanted to solve, I wouldn’t, not without her blessing. There might be things she didn’t want to know about.
She also hadn’t brought up last night once. She had looked so peaceful and serene today as she worked, I hadn’t the heart to ask. And something told me she just wanted to forget about it, at least for a few hours. When she was ready, if she wanted, she’d tell me in her way.
“Since your brother dropped you off at work, how about I come pick you up?” I asked as she dropped me off outside Tom’s house. I had been in such a single-minded fixation that I had completely abandoned my truck on his front yard.
She shook her head and tapped the vehicle’s dashboard.
“Oh, you’re bringing this?”
She nodded enthusiastically, she had been so easy to read all day.
‘And you were worrying over how we’d communicate with her. You’re a natural,’ Mars teased.
‘I think being mates helps just a little,’ her being my other half meant we were naturally in sync, but I suppose I did have a somewhat natural ability to read people too.
Shaking my head free of my wolf monopolising my attention for a split second, I returned my focus to the beauty that deserved every ounce of it.
“Ok, I’ll message you the address and I’ll leave the garage free for you. Just pull straight in, you don’t ever need to knock,” I smiled at her.
She nodded once more and waved to her brother who was working on some carpentry by the house. As she was driving off after we exchanged numbers, I realised I was actually missing her already. Even my wolf was whimpering like a lost pup despite the fact she would be with us in barely a few hours.
Speaking of pups, Tom’s dog came bounding over dancing around my feet. Poor Tipper, I had completely ignored her earlier with being so engrossed about finding June. I knelt down to fuss her a little, she was always a great dog. I remembered Tom had gotten her while he helped build my home.
She trotted along beside me as I greeted her owner. He looked as though he had been working a little excessively, as he was drenched in sweat.
“How’s June been today?” He asked, looking a little concerned.
“To say I’ve only known her a total of a few hours…relaxed I guess?”
“Good,” he said, looking relieved. “I think having you near helped.”
“Morgan, I need to head out of state for a couple of days. I was meant to go today…but circumstances dictated otherwise. I take it she’ll be alright with you?”
Like he needed to ask. “Of course, she seems like she can handle herself though. She cut up her attacker pretty well.”
There was no wonder I felt a pang of pride at the time. My mate had taken on two werewolves and almost won.
“That’s what I’m worried about…she really hates violence. Even though they were trying to hurt her, I think it’s weighing on her that she killed someone,” he spoke seriously.
I hadn’t thought about that. I only assumed that being taken would play on her mind. I hadn’t considered that her taking a life would affect her too. As a wolf and Alpha, I was unfortunately used to it in defending our territory, though it was only as a last measure, it wasn’t often that it weighed on my conscience much.
“Can I ask you something?… What sorta things does she like? You know, food… uh… flowers,” I questioned a little embarrassingly.
He laughed through his nose at me, “honestly, she’s really not fussy when it comes to food, she likes everything. As for flowers… I have no clue. She has a bunch of plants in her house, so, I don’t know, buy her a nice fern I guess?”
Well, that wasn’t much help.
“Here I was hoping you could offer some insight. I grew up in a house of guys…I don’t know the first thing about women,” I admitted, already feeling my face heat up a little.
“Well, just because I’m her brother doesn’t make me an expert or anything…it’s not as though I know much about women either…my mate will be my first in everything too,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
The two of us looked anywhere but at each other, like red-faced idiots, before I cleared my throat to leave.
“Here. I take it you’ll be seeing June before I do in the morning?” He said while handing me a bag he had retrieved from the house. It heavily smelt of her honeysuckle scent so it must’ve been her things.
“Yeah, she’s coming by for dinner so I’ll make sure she gets it.”
It was actually a blessing having her items next to me. The whole of my car was filling with her sweet scent calming me and my wolf, who was just sighing like some forlorn pup. But the pair of us only had to wait a few hours before she came home…and just the thought of my home being hers sent that warm feeling again spreading through my chest.
———-
With the door to my study open, I had been working or at least trying to. My eyes kept flicking up to the clock and I could swear it was going backwards. My ears were trained to the outside, listening for the sound of a vehicle and when I heard it I almost tipped my chair over in my eagerness to greet her.
‘Why don’t you take your own advice and chill?’ Mars sarcastically offered.
‘Like you’re not doing circles yourself, hypocrite.’
There was a garage access door just before the kitchen archway; as it opened, June’s face poked around the edge, lighting up with a huge smile when her eyes landed on me. Any notion of the work I was doing before was long forgotten, but it had only been a distraction anyway till what was truly important appeared.
She looked like she had changed and her incredible fresh scent told me she had just showered. This was the first time I had seen her with her hair down. It was shorter than I remembered but looked just as enchanting, brushing just against her shoulders. She was wearing a thin scarf around her neck, so she must still have felt some hesitancy in showing whatever laid underneath.
“Hey, come on in,” I said with what was probably more enthusiasm than necessary, as I opened the door wide for her.
She practically glided in and I couldn’t help but watch her every move. She had the most incredible figure, full and curvaceous, nothing like the she-wolves in the pack.
When I built my home, I had built it with my mate in mind, not realising I would be waiting over seven years for her. But now it was all worth it. Watching her look around and take everything in, with that beautiful smile, was exactly what I had envisioned at showing my mate around what I hoped would be her future home. Her fingers traced over the wooden support column that led up to the mezzanine, a flicker of recognition at the carvings in the grain of wolves, vines and other animals.
“Yeah, that’s your brother’s handiwork. He carved the whole thing, he’s pretty talented.”
She nodded, looking proud of her brother’s work. She made a gesture with her hand in sign language, her fingers fanning across her face in a circular motion.
I made the same sign to her, finishing by pointing to her. “You’re beautiful,” I loved seeing her eyes widen in surprise.
‘I take it back. You can be smooth,’ my wolf said, almost sounding impressed. I would have rolled my eyes but I didn’t want June thinking it was aimed at her.
In the time I had spent waiting for her, I had looked up a couple of things to say as well as doing some of my work. There was one particular thing I wanted to say to her… but she wasn’t ready to hear that yet.
She excitedly started signing, but I didn’t understand any of it. I took her hands, sighing internally at the tingles that seemed to increase every time I touched her.
“I’m a fast study, but I’m not that fast,” I smiled. “But how about I cook us some dinner and you can, maybe, teach me some signs?”
She nodded happily, as she had each time. I really loved how expressive she was, how whatever she was thinking was written on her face.
We were making beef stroganoff and just waiting for the rice to finish. June had insisted on helping me cook and as she had been chopping things up she was showing the signs for all the different utensils and cookware. I threw my dish towel down on the counter to turn and help her tidy up, only to find she had already done it so I got our plates out.
“How do you sign this?” I asked, holding up a plate.
She showed me and leaned back against the counter island, her eyes sweeping over every inch of me, heating my skin everywhere they lingered. She made another sign, both hands with her fingers pointed together about chin high and her lips slightly puckered.
“What does that mean?” I asked as I felt my heart beat speed up and my throat start to run dry. I already had a feeling what it meant.
She grasped the front of my t-shirt and smashed her lips to mine, snaking her arms around my neck. I clumsily tried to keep up as her honey-tasting soft lips worked against my own, her tongue sweeping against mine. My first k**s, our first k**s, had been gentle and sweet. This was anything but… and I wanted more. My confidence grew a little and I slipped my hands under her thighs, lifting her onto the counter, our lips never parting. Her thighs tightened around my waist while her fingertips inched under the material of my shirt, tracing the lines across my stomach, ascending upwards and making me g***n into her lips. She kissed down my jaw, nipping at my neck sending thrilling waves all throughout my skin. No-one had ever touched me like this, made me feel like this…
…The smell of burning quickly caught my attention.
I turned to see the dish towel I had thrown down was on fire near the burner.
“Oh, s**t!” I cried out as I launched into action and hit it repeatedly with a spatula.
‘You were actually doing well. Right up until you almost burnt the house down, i***t,’ I wasn’t sure whether my wolf was amused or irritated.
Luckily, there was no damage done, except to the towel.
“Well, at least it wasn’t the food that burnt,” I laughed nervously, feeling my embarrassment show on my cheeks again.
She was silently laughing and typed something quickly out.
“Dinner and a show.”
“Hopefully next time there’ll be less pyrotechnics,” I laughed out with her.
———-
June had drifted off to sleep, laid against my chest, between my legs on the couch virtually straight after dinner. I had turned off the movie we were watching a while ago so as not to wake her. She looked so peaceful and I didn’t want to ruin the moment. But we couldn’t stay here all night…and I hadn’t expected her to spend the night either.
I couldn’t exactly let her drive home like this.
I nudged her awake, asking if she wanted to stay and was over the moon when she agreed. I led her upstairs to my bedroom, but it was probably for the best that I didn’t stay in there with her…just thinking about that k**s in the kitchen had my pants feeling ridiculously tight and if she wanted to take things further, it would get a little tricky. I had no protection in the house because, up until now, I had no use for it…and the idea of being that intimate kind of terrified me right now. I also had no idea how to tell her I had no idea what I was doing in that respect of a relationship. But that was a problem to solve when it wasn’t almost midnight.
“You can take my bed, I’ll sleep on the couch downstairs,” I said while I placed the bag her brother had given me on the bed.
She looked a little disappointed, but then questioningly looked at the doors leading to the couple of spare rooms.
“Oh, those don’t have any furniture in them. They were…for something else,” I admitted, feeling my face heat again.
I hadn’t intended them to be guest rooms. They were built in mind for the pups I was beginning to think I’d never have. Wolves fell in love, hard and fast, with their mates and it wasn’t uncommon to want to plan a future with them straight away. Humans tended to take things slower…and I was still trying to figure out how any of this bond with June was possible.
I grabbed a pair of shorts out of my closet and hesitantly gave her a k**s goodnight, wanting to stay, wanting to peel each layer of clothing off and dig my fingers into her soft, deep flesh. But I settled for pressing my forehead against hers, nuzzling her affectionately, lingering for longer than necessary.
It felt a little uncomfortable sleeping in clothing. I hadn’t done this since before I got my wolf. And while, like most wolves, I didn’t bat an eye at being naked in front of others, being naked in front of my mate was an entirely different story. But my mate’s scent still lingered heavily on the couch and it was enough to have me asleep in minutes.
———-
I woke with a startle, laid on my front.
There was a mild panic thrumming through my mind but it wasn’t mine.
‘Mate! Go to her now!’ My wolf commanded, like I needed an order. I was already running up the steps two at a time before his voice.
There was a strange scent of b***d in the air as I neared my bedroom door. I ripped the door open, calling her name as my heart went into overdrive.
“June!”
I was met with her wide-eyed stare from where she stood by the bed.
