His Unwanted Wife Again
Chapter Twenty-Nine

UNEDITED

A week later...

Nathan was still in the intensive care unit and has shown no sign of improvement.

It has been a miserable time.

Sabrina's eyes were dark with worry. She hasn't been eating, sleeping well, or getting to see Jasmine much.

She leaned back in a very uncomfortable chair that's been her permanent spot near her husband's bed. She held on to his hand and stayed in silent prayer most of the day.

The world was praying for him. The outpour of support and love they received from the public was unbelievable and it meant a lot.

People have been standing outside the hospital praying for her husband like he was their family. It warmed her soul.

After the interview, they were in full swing obsession-mode again.

It didn't take long for the whole story to leak into the media and ever since the people heard that she was going to stay every night they too wanted to do the same and have been camping outside the hospital with candles. More and more showed up every day. She was so hopeful. With so many praying he had to get better.

"I'm waiting for you." She kisses his hand.

His index and middle finger wiggle unexpectedly.

She gasps and jumps back. "Nathan?" She stands and places her palms on his cheeks. No movement came from him.

Her phone rings in the next moment and startles her again. "Clarissa." She picks up.

"Were downstairs." She was referring to herself and Baylee. They came every day and spent a few hours with Nathan while Sabrina went home to see Jasmine goodnight.

"Okay, I'm leaving." She replies and hangs up.

She leans down over Nathan. "I love you." She kisses his forehead. "I'm going home to see our daughter. See you later. She kisses his cheek one more time.

When she leaves his room, she doesn't go into the elevator, but into the nurse's station. "Excuse me." She gets the attention of Nathan's nurse.

"Yes." She smiles sweetly.

"My husband just moved his fingers. Is that a sign that he could be waking up?"

"Maybe." She almost said it with sympathy "Things like that happen a lot, but don't worry I will let the doctor know."

"Okay." She agrees.

She went home and gave her mother a break from grandma's duty. She hugged, kissed, and played with Jasmine until she tired her out, Then, once again left her with Mariel and went back to the hospital.

Clarissa and Baylee leave when she arrives and she gets back in her uncomfortable chair. She leans close to his ear and whispers "I'm back. Jasmine is doing great. She really misses you." She kisses his cheek. "I have to talk to the nurse." She lets him know like she always did. "I'll just be minute"

"Excuse me." She grabs the attention of the same nurse.

"Mrs. Alden. you're back, good. The doctor wants to talk to you. I'll let him know you're here."

Sabrina nods and goes right back to where she wanted to be. Right by Nathan's side.

Fifteen minutes later the doctor stood before her. "Mrs. Alden."

She didn't stand. She kept a tight hold on her husband's hand. "Yes."

"Nurse Robin has notified me that Nathan has been moving his fingers"

"Yes." She confirms.

He smiles gently. "Muscle spasms are very common with sleeping patients."

"Oh." Her shoulders drop.

"Mrs. Alden." He pauses. "I hate to be the barrier of bad news."

"But?" She interjects.

"We did some more tests yesterday and after evaluating them, we've discovered that his brain activity is depleting." She squeezes her eyes shut. This wasn't happening..

"The chances of his recovery are getting lower and lower...."

"How low?"

"Twenty to thirty percent maybe."

She shakes her head in a none accepting way and swallows back a sob. "There's nothing else we can do?"

"I'm sorry. I know it's not easy to hear. Trust me, it's not easy to deliver.

Feeling like she was being tormented on the inside, and suffocating for air, she couldn't find it in her to utter another word. She glances away from the doctor and zones onto Nathan's resting face.

"Let's stay positive and hope for the best." He shut the door behind him.

"Nathan." She whispers. "I don't want to know what this world is without you. Please don't make me have to..." Her lips trembled. "Please... don't make me have to live without you...Please... don't make me have to raise Jasmine without you. Suddenly, the insanity rumbling her insides became unbearable. She lets go of his hand and moves away from the bed. She starts pacing trying somehow to get the anxiety out with movement.

She glances at the windows and immediately walks towards it. She pulls the curtain back slightly and peeks through. All those people were waiting for him. They weren't giving up.

"You're a fighter, you need to fight." She looks back at him. How dare you wither away on me, Nathan?" She places her palms on her face and her body jerks with cries. "Nathan..." She sobs. "Don't give up please..." She couldn't contain herself more and more tears just came gushing out. "Nathan please... wake up...”

"Stop crying." She was suddenly ordered and she froze instantly.

"You can't be in any more pain...especially not because of me. "Nathan's groggy voice rumbles the room.

Her inners shook violently at the sound of that voice. Please god...she couldn't bear it if she was hallucinating. She slowly lowers her hands.

Sure enough, Nathan had stripped from his cords and was haft way to her. She was in a complete state of shock and paralyzed.

That was the moment it became real, and relief washed over her, she connects to his chest and cries even harder.

"Shh..." He encircles her. "I'm here now. No more crying." He vertically rubs her head and holds her as close as possible.

"I love you." She declares. "Don't ever do that to me again..."

"I love you." He squeezes her closer, and as he inhales her scent, he notices spots of light through the curtain.

Curiously, he pulls the curtain open and sees hundreds of people standing outside of the hospital. "What are all those people doing here?" He shares his confusion.

"They're here for you."

He glances at her weirdly, then back out the window. "They're crazy." He shakes his head slightly.

Sabrina laughs. Its been a while since she's been able too.

"Look!" A woman shouts from in the middle of the crowd. "I think that's Nathan and Sabrina."

The crowd began screaming. Some crying and thanking god.

Hesitantly, he lifts his hand and waves at them. The screams grew louder. They began sharing how relieved they were.

Sabrina never unwrapped her arms from around him as they stood there for a few minutes. Then Nathan reaches out and closes the curtain. When he did, she pulls away and sees pain on his face. "Nathan." She holds onto him. "You should be in bed I'm gonna get a nurse." She helps him to bed, and as she tries to leave but, he tugs her back by her wrists. "Nathan." He surprises her with his strength.

He pulls her until she is sitting very close to him on the bed. "Where is my daughter?"

"She's at home with my mother."

"How is she?"

"Missing us."

"How long have I been here?"

"A little over a week...."

He shakes his head.

"Who did this to you?" She questions.

"I know who it is, and we're going to get them." He moves hair from her on her cheek. "I don't want you to worry about this. I will work with the authorities to get whoever did this in jail...and don't ask me again because I won't tell you." "I'm going to get a nurse." She tries to get to the door but gets pulled back again. "Nathan." She scolds. "I need to get the nurse."

"I know, just plug those in." He points to the machines that were keeping track of his heart and breathing."

Her eyes widened to the fullest extent. He was too smart for his own good.

Later, He was moved into another room on the recovery floor, and on this floor, he was allowed to have as many visitors that could fit in the room. Both of his sisters showed up as soon as they heard. It was a little awkward once Baylee arrived. "So, this is what it takes for you to give me the time of day?" She asks her brother as she stands uncomfortably in front of his bed.

"You forget that I'm being forced to stay in this bed." He gave her an answer.

"Come on Nathan... This is getting old... I'm sorry, and I miss you. I will never ever do anything close to that again. I swear on my life for crying out loud."

"Relax...I forgive you."

"You're lying." She blurts out.

"What you did was because of her influence." Referring to his mother. "We all make mistakes. We should learn from them, correct them if we can, and move on."

"Thank you, Nathan." After years of not speaking, they hugged and finally made up.

Sabrina goes back over to Nathan's side, sits on the bed, and runs her fingers through his hair. "Tired?" She asks.

He kisses her palm and shakes his head. An obvious lie.

She could see that even though he was hurt, he was more worried about her worrying about him.

An hour goes by before they're alone again.

"Lay down." She orders. He was sitting up all day and she worried he might be in pain.

As he adjusted himself she could see that she was right. The pain was written all over his features.

"Lay with me." He breathes.

"No." She shakes her head. "You need to rest."

"Rest with me." He rephrases his statement.

"No, I might hurt you."

"Come here." He orders again.

She shakes her head and backs away slowly. "I need you to rest." She drops her butt on the uncomfortable chair.

Minutes later, she woke and barely registered that she had fallen asleep. She then realizes that something was pinning her down and it was her husband. He kneeled in front of her, wrapped his arm around her waist, and rested his cheek on her She gasps. "What are you doing? Are you crazy? Get back in bed."

lap.

He lifts his head up but keeps his arm around her. "Not before I tell you something."

"You can tell me anything, just please get back in bed." Her voice panicked. "You're crazy you know that. You need to be resting."

"Shhh." He silences her. "For not trusting you, for not being there for you when I should have, for not searching for the truth sooner, I don't deserve to have you back. I should be tortured; forever pining for you but, please don't punish me. I will never distrust you again. No matter what you say to me I will never doubt you." His tone was soft and warm and he was serious. He meant it.

"You promise?" She places her palm on his cheek.

"I more than promise. Forgive your Idiot husband Sabrina..."

"The only way I'll forgive you is if you get up and get back on the bed."

"I'm on my knees, begging for forgiveness, and you're making jokes. Come on, I love you."

"I'm serious too Nathan. I've already forgiven you. Please get back in bed."

He pulls her in and smirks. "The only way I'll get back in that bed Is if you come with me."

"You win." She gives in.

They stay close the entire night. Complete and utter peace between them. A few days later he was well enough to go home.
