I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 15

Aidan paid no attention to the steaming coffee in front of him that said drink me all over. His gaze was focused straight ahead, arms folded, on the woman who was smiling and gobbling down a piece of cake that was too sugary for her taste. They were both sitting in the corner coffee shop, far from any slippery ears that might smear their conversation.

-Dulse wiped her lips delicately with her napkin and set it folded to one side.

Aidan couldn’t deny that this woman had a heartbreaking charm. With her shiny hair combed in perfect waves, perfect make-up on well-placed features, a pronounced waist that she didn’t care to show off, and an aura about her that would attract even a beta.

-What do you wish to discuss with me,” she knew the answer to that question perfectly well, but out of respect she asked it.

-Well, firstly, to meet the person who was able to take my alpha from me and secondly, to tell you some things,” the smile did not fade from her lips.

-I didn’t take your alpha from you, he’s the one who insists on chasing me.

-Let’s not be delusional. I’m an omega and I know perfectly well that I won’t gain anything from fighting when Dominic found his other half or destined mate, as the alphas stress. I still remember the last time we had s*x, the gleam in his eyes, he wasn’t looking at me.

Aidan sighed and swallowed, restraining himself from getting up.

-Well you’ve met me, what do you want to tell me besides, I’m busy,” Aidan sighed and swallowed as he stood up.

-You’re not very sociable,” the omega bowed her head.

Aidan closed his eyes, right now his life was in chaos, what did this omega want, to show a huge smile and tell him that his life was wonderful? Well no, he had a lot of things to think about, one of them, listening to the alpha’s supposed ex with her claims.

-Never mind,” Dulse seemed in a good mood, “Now that I’ve talked to you, I feel more at ease. I thought you’d be an omega who’d be after Dominic for his money and want to tie him to you so you could live at the top of society, but looking at you I realise you’re not like that.

-I’ve got problems of my own to think too high.

He saw her pout.

-There’s something bothering me. You smell a little funny, your pheromones are weak, don’t you think that’s a disadvantage when it comes to giving her a puppy?

Puppy? Aidan’s eyes widened. Sons. He hadn’t thought about it at the time, hadn’t given it any thought. He had no intention of starting a family with Hans so soon, but the mere mention of it made his body shudder involuntarily. The image of him with a huge belly carrying Dominic’s offspring flashed through her mind in a fleeting thought and her cheeks flushed. She bit her l*p. What the hell was wrong with him? Every time his body did what it wanted.

-The bond was created for a reason, and if you’re not with that person, you’ll never feel fulfilled.

Aidan raised his head and looked at her.

-If only all omegas could find the end of that red thread like you,” a gleam of longing crossed his eyes, “Take my advice. I know it’s hard to accept, you’ve only just met him, but give him a chance, you’ll see he’s nothing like what you imagine.

-Why are you asking me to be next to him when until recently you occupied that place?

-I’m not going to lie to you, I’m jealous and I’d even like to fight with you but I wouldn’t win anything. I’ve known Dominic for a long time and I can only tell you that he deserves everything and more. He is an awesome alpha and I assure you that no matter how upset he is he will never turn his violence against his omega, that’s why I wish him the best and if he found his half soul I want him to be the happiest alpha on the planet. I’m only backing down because you are his half, but I warn you that if I find him alone, I’ll get him back tooth and claw.

For the first time in the entire conversation Aidan smiled slightly.

-I don’t know if you’re too nice or if you’re pulling my leg,” he said.

-If I were teasing you, it would be literal, and our conversation would be over the top,” Dulse smiled back.

This time Aidan grabbed the coffee cup and lifted it to his lips reflecting on the whole conversation. And if he gave in, what could happen. Being with Dominic didn’t seem unpleasant in any way, it even felt wonderful, even if he denied it. Living with him as he had proposed was a difficult step to take, but every cell in her body was determined to make him change his mind and not exactly sleep in the spare room. And now that there was no option to stay at home, it was as if all the conditions were being prepared for that.

After finishing the afternoon’s work and almost leaving most of the project in advance, he received an email with the word “urgent” on his computer. He read it and squinted.

-A convention, at this moment,” he stroked his chin thoughtfully.

-Is something wrong, director? His team was deigning to leave for home after several days of overtime.

-It’s all right, go on, it’s nothing important,” he said, still staring at the message. Minutes later and being alone in the office he heard footsteps and the smell of Dominic was present. He walked in quickly but elegantly and sat down on the edge of the table.

-Did you see him?

Aidan answered with a nod of his head.

-Is that it?

-A trial by fire,” he replied, leaning closer but keeping his distance, “They want to see how far I’ve come with this new venture so they’ve organised a special project presentation. Those old men wouldn’t lose if they cut off their heads,” a half-smile crossed his lips.

-It’s in three days, the project is well advanced but it still lacks some details to be able to show a convincing solution.

-I’m counting on you, my capable director. I need those details to be ready in two days, the trip is long and I’d like to be prepared for when we leave for there.

-When we leave? Aidan repeated his words slowly.

-Let’s leave,” Dominic smiled again, emphasising with his arms crossed in front of his arms and letting his scent envelop him. He knew the effect on the omegas and lately it didn’t affect him like the first time, maybe he was getting used to it. “You’re the person who knows the most about the advance so I’ll need your solid support in front of those hyenas.
