I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 44

Aidan didn’t move for the next ten seconds, then glanced out of the corner of his eye at a nervous Julian who was squeezing his hand tightly, then turned his attention to the alpha who was sitting down without even asking permission.

-I’m sorry, could you repeat that,” he could only blurt out, hoping it was an illusion he had heard.

-What’s the impression,” Nolan smiled grabbing one of the appetizers, he let out all his alpha essence showing who was the superior at that moment, “Julian and I go way back, I came to find him and soon we’ll be married, something wrong I said.

Aidan blinked.

-Yes, a long time. As far as I can tell he’s in a relationship – not a very conventional one, but he wouldn’t touch certain details.

Nolan leaned forward, angering the boy.

-I don’t think anyone can talk about our lives, dear, what do you know about us,” Aidan narrowed his eyes, “Besides, he’s an omega, he doesn’t have to worry about much,” Nolan said.

Aidan’s temple throbbed.

-Are you saying that because he’s an omega, an alpha like you can decide what to do with his life and who he has to be with,” he tried not to shout even though his tone was harsh.

Julian tugged gently on his arm to calm him down, they were talking about him but not to him. The atmosphere around them became dense and a thick shower of pheromones hovered over both omegas. Both their faces turned pale, but Aidan did not retreat even though his legs were weak and the nausea was returning violently.

-I’m on the cusp of evolution, someone of such low calibre should mediate his tone,” Nolan snarled at him.

-And someone like you shouldn’t treat us like we’re slaves who must answer without any sense,” Aidan’s small teeth were clenched.

-You’re wrong dear, I’m not forcing it, it’s inevitable, but that doesn’t concern you, does it Julian,” Nolan looked at the other omega.

-Nolan, go away,” Julian asked without raising his head.

-It would be better if you stopped being nervous around me,” another stream of pheromones was launched at him and that only made the young man’s eyes close tightly.

Aidan got up and pushed him off the table and stood in front of him, protecting him even though the strong emotions of the moment were not good for his heart, but he couldn’t stay that way. From this new angle Nolan got a good look at him and smiled.

-Oh, now I recognise you, you’re the design director of that new company, if I’m not mistaken, Aidan,” he smiled sideways, “but it’s strange,” he made as if to sniff, “you’re an omega, if I remember correctly there was a rule that there couldn’t be omegas in that place,” his tone of voice changed.

-Are you threatening me?

-I’m an alpha, I don’t need you to do that, you should rather give us our space and let me not talk to Julian, I have important business with him.

Aidan looked over his shoulder at the boy and he refused.

-I’m sorry but we are in a hurry, our alphas are waiting for us,” he said flatly.

-Aidan,” she used her voice against the omega and he felt every fibre in his body electrify and he couldn’t stop tears from welling up in his eyes.

-Please,” someone interrupted them, it was a beta but tall and stocky, “I need you to leave if you’re going to continue with this show, in my cafeteria I don’t allow anyone to be discriminated against,” his appearance was imposing and serious.

Nolan studied him up and down and then burst out laughing.

-All this just because I wanted to talk to my omega.

-I don’t care if they are alphas, omegas or betas, here in my establishment they are all the same, I ask you to measure yourself or else leave,” he had noticed the nervous state of the two young men since the alpha had joined.

Nolan continued to smile but stood up and left money on the table.

-Here’s the bill, sorry for the inconvenience,” his apology sounded insincere but the beta didn’t care. The alpha turned and walked towards him but stopped in front of Aidan.

-I hope next time our encounter will be less unpleasant. Julian’s friends are my friends too, besides I’m his ….- he finished muttering in his ear causing Aidan’s eyes to widen in two. And Nolan took the opportunity to give him a k**s on the cheek, “We look beautiful, especially you Julian,” and he pulled away from him.

Aidan didn’t know if it was his body that felt weak or the one behind him but the next thing he knew they both had to be helped by both the beta and someone else to be seated again. Being bullied by an alpha was really scary. They were both grateful when a glass of water was placed in front of them.

-Sorry for the inconvenience,” Julian was the one who spoke guiltily.

-No worries,” the beta smiled at them, “It’s something I see every day and I don’t like omegas being harassed like that.

-Thank you.” Aidan thanked him.

-Would you like me to call you a taxi back?

-No thanks, we’ll do it ourselves, we don’t want to interfere with your work,” Julian clasped his hands in his lap.

The beta didn’t insist any more and left. Aidan took out his mobile and called a taxi himself, he didn’t know if Dominic had finished and he didn’t want to worry him either. As he did that he rubbed his chest, there was a slight discomfort, perhaps from the effort.

-Aidan, I’m really sorry,” Julian’s voice was muffled, “I didn’t want you to go through this,” he said.

-What was his current relationship with you,” he asked firmly, the guy was a threat and even more so after what he had said in his ear.

Julian was slow to answer.

-He’s my ex-boyfriend, more like the only one before I met Madox,” he said.

-You have feelings for him,” Aidan’s brow furrowed, “Have you noticed anything different about him from you?

The omega shook his head.

-His presence is in one of the gaps in my mind, I have some memories of when we were together but nothing else. We broke up years ago. Now he’s reappeared and says he wants to come back to me.

Aidan bit his l*p, he knew the reason but apparently Julian had no record of it or maybe because he couldn’t sense the pheromones he was acting like that.

-We should talk to Madox, he can help us,” he remembered how he was the alpha. That could be worse,” anxiety assaulted him but his thoughts were interrupted when Julian grabbed his hands.

-Don’t say anything, don’t say anything to him, please.

-Julian, do you have any idea what you’re up against?

-Don’t say it,” he demanded even more forcefully, “I’ll sort it out on my own, I’ll be fine, I don’t want to cause him any trouble.

-You won’t cause trouble.

-To Madox I’m sure I will, I’m just one of his patients, one more worthless omega, he’s already helped me a lot. I don’t want to go to trouble like this,” his hands were shaking too much to be healthy.

-I won’t open my mouth, just because you ask me to, but if I feel it’s getting out of hand, I won’t hesitate to ask for help.

-Julian wobbled on the seat and put a hand to his head.

Aidan was alarmed and rushed to his side leaning his weight on top of his, his temperature coming to him a little higher than normal. He felt his forehead and found it warm.

-Julian, you have a fever,” it must have been due to stress, “The taxi will be here soon, we’re going to Dominic’s house, I understand.

The omega nodded before his eyes closed.
