Chapter 31

The moon, on its highest peak, shone its mild light. Underneath the thin clouds, a midnight battle took place in the kingdom’s heart in the south. Beast soldiers and guards surrounded the intruder, keeping their numbers up as the young knight got them one by one. Wielding his flame sword against anyone who got near him.

“How naïve,” a redhead alpha said, leaning on the pillar while striking a pose. “A kid like you has no place on the battlefield. Go home while I’m still being nice to you,” he suggested.

Seth smirked and slit the beast soldier’s throat in a second. “Naive you say, why don’t you save that for your useless men?” he mumbled, clearing his path towards the alpha by taking down his guards in one blow.

“Leo,” Mathew called the werelion when he exited the palace. “Be wary of that kid, he’s got some skills.”

Leo curled his brows on the werewolf’s reminder. “You’re thinking too highly of this cub when he only knows how to flaunt his sword. What a weakling, only those who were inferior needed a weapon,” he said nonchalantly.

“Beast will always be a beast, nothing more but ever less,” Seth muttered. He tilted his head and saw his lord, watching them with an amused expression from the roof.

‘He always wanted to be in the limelight. Does he plan to get me killed first before taking action?’ Seth thought to himself. He was scouting the entire Wyslien kingdom to gather information about Latina’s whereabouts when the vampire lord appeared and ordered him to seize the palace. It was a mission impossible by himself, but he couldn’t go against the lord’s order. Seth took the initial step when he learned about the white alpha leaving for the empire.

They planned that while he was charging, Sebastian would look for Latina. The lord did and found the lady in no time, using Claudia’s potion with the werewolf essence, he easily sneaked inside the palace. He even got laid by the lady. They were enjoying themselves while the young knight had to start a commotion to give them more ‘time’. Seth did his part. Once the lord secured Latina’s safety, they would withdraw.

“Kid, you still have to pay for what you did to me back then,” Mathew said. His eyes darted on Seth’s weapon, it’s the blue flame which tried to cut him. “Time to settle the score,” he muttered, turning to his wolf form. “Grrr!” Mathew roared.

“Seriously, do you really need to show off your white fur?” Leo asked, grinning. He signaled his men hiding in the dark to charge.

“Cowards,” Seth whispered when a bunch of lions attacked him. He spun around with his sword and leaped in the air, he vanished. Observing the enemy’s tactic, he realized that he was not just outnumbered but absolutely had less chance of winning. Gliding in the wind, he headed to the vampire lord, leaving his enemy on guard as his presence disappeared.

“My lord, we can’t afford to stay here any longer,” he said and informed him about the situation. “These beasts grew stronger in the full moon. Now is not the time to battle with them.”

“I know,” Sebastian responded. “We can leave anytime,” he added.

The boy heaved a sigh of relief. “Great, so where’s Latina?” he asked, revealing his presence and hiding his sword.

The vampire lord stared at the empty room where Latina was. “She ran away again,” he answered. “Latina is no longer here. They escaped through the underground tunnel. She’s becoming bolder now that she found a friend.”

Sebastian’s words almost caused Seth to smack his head if only he was not the vampire lord. “What the heck,” he cursed. “Now what?” Seth asked, looking at the frantic beast below. “I bought considerable time just so that lady could escape, haha!” He laughed his frustration away. “Just so like her, but who’s with her?”

“Yeah,” Sebastian smiled thinking about the night he shared with the lady. “It’s the half-breed werewolf. That girl doesn’t stink as much as the beast. The werewolf alpha will chase after them, go to the East. You’ll find a village of witches. Look after her but don’t get caught,” he ordered. “Let me know everything she does. Here,” the lord handed a bottle of potion to the youngster.

Seth brushed his face with his palm when Sebastian left, leaving him alone. “Now, how should I end the show?” the boy asked himself and locked his eyes with the white alpha who was looking up to him. “Damn, he found me.” Jumping off, Seth played the same trick: using stealth to get away from the place.

“Secure the exit, don’t let him escape,” the red alpha ordered.

‘Yeah right,’ Seth thought. ‘However you close the gates, I can float in the air, dumb.’ He smirked as he flipped, rolled, and twisted his body in the air. ‘I can fly, duh.’

“Ops!” he squealed when he dropped the bottle. It fell on the ground. Its ticking sound while landing on the pebbles caught everyone’s attention, including the alphas. The next thing that happened caused so much more panic. The glass cracked and emitted a deadly gas, at least only for the beast members. It didn’t take more than a minute when every soldier and guard fell to their death.

“Amazing,” Seth mumbled as he watched the enemy’s number lessened. “That witch’s elixir is something. Was she really a vampire or a witch?” he muttered, referring to Claudia who made the potion. “Time to take my leave,” he added and flew to the east.

The knight’s laughter echoed in the wind when he heard the alphas’ roar. “Beastards,” he murmured and headed to his destination.

“Oh, Latina. Why can’t you stay in one place?” Seth muttered, flying to the Eastern land, a place filled with mystery and uncertainty. “Wait for me, I’ll bring you back this time.”

The wind blew gently caressing Seth’s skin while the stars peeped behind the clouds, watching the young brave knight gliding in the air.
