Immortal Desire
Chapter 38

“Ugh!” Seth abruptly pressed his palm on his mouth when he emitted such a sound. He held his breath almost an hour ago, and he couldn’t afford to take a breath just yet.

‘Damn, how long will this oldie stand there? I couldn’t make a move and look for Latina if she’s around,’ he thought to himself.

Following the vampire lord’s order, he headed to the east to find Latina. He was lucky to find them immediately when he arrived in the forest. There was no village around, and he kept on wondering where he could find the village that Sebastian spoke of. He was about to tag along with the ladies when they suddenly disappeared. Seth wasn’t sure where they went, so he flew higher to get a better view, hoping to see them down below. His senses caught something dangerous approaching, and so he had to land his feet on a tree.

Seth dropped his jaw when he witnessed how the old woman finished off a pack of werewolves who emerged underground. He was so busy looking for Latina that he didn’t notice where the old woman came from. Her assaults were quick and almost invisible to the naked eye. Even Seth could hardly see it. If not for his senses linked in the air, he would think that she was using some sort of magic that only witches are capable of. That was when he remembered what Sebastian had told him.

He was instructed to head to the east, and he would find a village of witches. After pondering for some time, Seth assumed that the village may be protected by witch’s magic, disabling others to find it. More importantly, the old woman must be a witch. What scared him most was to be noticed by her. Seth was aware that witches weren’t friendly with other races. He was left with no choice but to wait for the old hag to leave before taking his next move.

“I know it’s hard not to breathe. Why don’t you go down here and talk with me?”

The young knight choked on his saliva.

‘Damn, she knew?’ he asked to himself. ‘If I fight her….no, I’m not familiar with her strength at all.’

“So the vampires of this generation are stubborn too? Get down brat, I don’t have any intention of killing you and have odds against your tribe.

“Hah!” Seth puffed as soon as he showed himself. He jumped on the ground and walked towards the old lady who smiled at him. “What do you want?” he asked.

“Hmph. You’ll faint if I don’t call you out,” she responded. Her sight shifted from top to bottom, observing him. “You’re supposed to have a bright future ahead of you. But you forfeited your special card, fate won’t get easy on you.”

“What do you mean?” Seth asked. He had an idea about what she said, and he hoped he was wrong about it.

“Your mate was marked by someone else. Do you know what will happen to you? You’ll have to live hundreds or maybe thousands of years before meeting your next other half. Who knows, maybe you’ll die of waiting. Haha!” the old lady said, expecting to see the boy’s angry face. To her surprise, he remained calm.

“I know,” Seth replied. “I’m not worried about it though. My concern is the b***d tribe’s safety. As long as I’m alive, I’ll do what I can to help the tribe.”

*Clap Clap Clap*

“Excellent!” the witch exclaimed. “After a hundred years of waiting, a hero was finally born. But did you know? Heroes often die in battle,” she added. She was smiling but pain could be seen in her eyes. “Sometimes, one needs to be selfish to find happiness.”

“Maybe you’re right,” Seth muttered. “But I’m no hero. I’m just a loyal knight. If I choose to be selfish for my good, whatever I achieve later will lose its value.” He turned his back to leave, “You seemed to know a lot that you didn’t ask me why I’m initially here in the first place. I have to go,” he said.

“Wait a minute,” the old lady held his arm to stop him. “What you said intrigued me. If you don’t mind, let me give you this as a gift.” A ball of light appeared on her hand.

“This magical ball will help you become stronger to face any obstacle in the future. Just remember one thing: Whatever your choice is, will affect the present events,” she said before handing her gift to the young knight.

Seth opened his eyes and was welcomed by the bright sunlight, he squinted and rubbed them. He looked around, he felt lighter. “Hello? Is anyone here?” he asked. It looked like he was still in the forest but it was already daytime, just a few minutes ago he was still conversing with the old witch.

“Where am I?” he asked, confused. “Didn’t that hag say it was a gift? Damn!”

“Hey!”

Turning his gaze to where the voice came from, he saw a lady wearing armor. Seth frowned, ‘When did the Vacil empire train a lady soldier?’ he thought.

“Who are you?” the lady asked. “Why are you in the forest? It’s dangerous here! Do you want to be eaten by beasts?”

“Are you talking to me?” Seth asked while pointing at his face. “Are you kidding? I could handle the beasts easily,” he added. His conceited face annoyed the lady.

“Oh really? Maybe you’re one of them.” The lady unsheathed her sword and charged forward. “You’re not even wearing anything in broad daylight! If you’re not a beast then you’re a pervert!” She swung her weapon and grinned when her blade slashed his skin.

“Ah!” Seth g*****d in pain. He jumped back and pressed his wound. ‘It’s not healing,’ he panicked when he saw the wound bleed. ‘ Who is this woman? She even smells like Latina,’ he thought.

“You’re a vampire!” the lady shrieked when he saw how his wound bled and at the same time, burnt. “That’s impossible! She told me that they’re all in slumber. Why would a vampire appear now?” She shook her head while looking at him in disbelief.

“Who are you?”

“Are you nuts? Why would a vampire be all in slumber, at least a dozen or few should remain to ensure a safe place until the true-b***d wakes up.” Seth blabbered. Scanning his eyes on the lady, he could tell that she was not a vampire nor a human. “What are you?”

The lady looked away. “A Kiera,” she answered. “I don’t want to hurt any vampire, as an apology, follow me to my place. I have an antidote for your wound.”

Seth ignored what she said. A foreign word caught his attention. “Kiera…” he muttered.

“Uh. I mean a hunter,” the lady responded. “We need to hurry or else your cut will burn your whole body,” she reminded, taking off the cloth attached to her armor and throwing it on Seth’s exposed body.

The knight’s mouth left hanging when he realized he was naked. Not just that, he seemed to grow taller.

“Hurry up! I’ll answer your questions once we’re done with your wound,” the lady pulled his arm and led the way.

“How did you know I have questions?” he stupidly asked.

“It’s obvious, you’re a dumb vampire.”
