It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 106
After stuffing the last item of clothing into her suitcase, Lucia looked around the room she had been staying in in silence. There was reluctance in his eyes. She didn’t know if she would have the chance to come back here. With a deep sigh, she locked her suitcase and carried it out of the room. Earlier, she had called a real estate agency and made an appointment to view an apartment later. If she found it suitable, she could move in immediately.
Just then, Lucia’s phone rang. Her first instinct was to ignore it, but then she saw Lowell’s name on the caller ID. After hesitating for a while, she answered the call.
“Lucia, are you okay? Lowell asked worriedly.
“Yeah, not bad,” Lucia said simply. His calm tone did not betray his true emotions.
“Do you want me to help you find a place to stay?” » Lowell suggested seriously.
“Okay,” Lucia replied after thinking about it for a long time. For the moment, it was the best choice she had.
“Just wait there. I’ll send someone to get you. The rest, we’ll talk about it later, okay?” It seemed that Lowell was already ready to make the arrangements.
“Thank you, Lowell,” Lucia said softly, feeling grateful to him from the bottom of her heart.
“You little fool, you don’t need to thank me.” Just wait over there for 20 minutes,” Lowell said, laughing lightly.
After hanging up the phone, Lucia came downstairs with her luggage. Kathryn, who was lounging on the living room couch, was shocked to see this. She frowned eyebrows at Lucia, silently relaying the question to her mind.
“Thank you for letting me stay here these last few days, Catherine. But these reporters are like hunting dogs. They will find out where I live sooner or later. I don’t want them to affect your life,” Lucia explained calmly.
“Are you going to his house? This mysterious man, I mean…” Catherine asked hesitantly.
“Yes.” Lucia made no attempt to deny it.
“Lucia, you should cherish the person who truly loves you,” Kathryn said
. Kathryn, don’t give your heart to someone who will never return the favor. It’s a futile effort.” Lucia gave the most sincere advice she could.
“Why did you decide to give up? Even a fool could see that you have deep feelings for Malcolm. Your eyes light up the moment he appears.” This was an accurate observation Kathryn made last time.
“Because he said he never loved me.” Lucia’s tone was calm and detached, as if she was talking about something that had nothing to do with her.
Catherine said nothing more. She wasn’t like Lucia, who had the courage to go and fight for what she wanted, as well as the courage to let go and move forward if faced with disappointment. Kathryn was more like an ostrich burying her head in the sand, because even though she already knew what the end result would be, she didn’t want to face it. She would rather live in her own world, clinging to the last drop of hope. In fact, such hope had quietly disappeared since Lucia moved into the villa.
Kathryn silently went into the kitchen and took out the food she had prepared. Mustering a bright smile, Lucia took it from him and gulped it down, knowing that she might not have a good home-cooked meal like this for a long time after this. Plus, with all the stress she was under, she was practically starving. Just as she swallowed her last bite, her phone rang and she quickly answered it.
“Come out. He’s waiting for you outside. The license plate number is…” Lowell relayed the number.
“Got it.” Lucia hung up the phone, picked up her luggage and said goodbye to Catherine.
Then she walked to the front door and opened it. Realizing that Catherine was right behind her, Lucia looked at her in confusion. Without saying anything, Kathryn just gave him a smile and picked up some of his luggage. Shaking her head, Lucia gently touched Kathryn’s hair and let her follow her out of the villa community.
There was no sign of the journalists gathered outside today, and the place appeared to have returned to its normal peaceful state. Looking at the unfamiliar car parked in front, Lucia stopped. She glanced at the car’s license plate to confirm that it was the same number she had heard from Lowell, but before she could, a tall man came out of the car. car. He had short hair and rough features that gave his face a masculine look. His casual clothes showed off his well-built muscles. Lucia looked at him with a frown.
“Hello, Miss Garcia?” » the man asked uncertainly.
“Yes. Did Lowell send you here?” Lucie asked.
A trace of surprise flashed in the man’s eyes, but he quickly hid it and said, “Yes. Please get in the car.”
Kathryn, who was standing behind Lucia, stood rooted to the spot. She stared at the man for a long moment, without taking her eyes off him. The man seemed to have noticed her gaze, because he glanced at Catherine with a trace of questioning in his eyes. However, he didn’t say anything.
Noticing the strange way they exchanged glances, Lucia sensed something was wrong and asked curiously, “Do you know him, Catherine?”
“Oh… No. He just looks familiar,” Catherine muttered, shaking her head.
“I see. Catherine, take good care of yourself. Call me if you need anything, okay?” Lucia said carefully.
Kathryn forced a smile and nodded. Lucia rubbed Kathryn’s head and waved goodbye before following the man into the car. After taking a look at Lucia’s luggage, the man put it in the trunk of the car. Then he politely opened the passenger seat door for her. Once Lucia was seated, he walked around the car and opened the driver’s seat door. Suddenly, he glanced in the direction behind him, and a strange emotion flashed in his eyes. But the next moment, he withdrew his gaze, got into the driver’s seat, and started the engine to leave the villa community.
Kathryn stayed where she was, frowning as she watched the car drive away. She had never seen this man in person before, but she was sure she had seen him in a photo somewhere. Although she didn’t get a good look at him earlier, she thought she knew him from somewhere.
‘Who is that man? Does he have anything to do with you? These questions flooded Catherine’s mind as she returned to the villa. She tried to push these thoughts out of her head, but suddenly something came to mind, causing her to pick up her pace. Once inside the villa, she went straight to her desk and started leafing through her book hastily. A laminated photo slipped out of the book. The man she had just seen was in the photo.
‘It’s him… So all the clues are linked. Catherine finally understood. A mocking smile appeared on her lips and Catherine suddenly understood Lucia’s feelings. “Lucia’s situation is pathetic, but not as pathetic as mine.”
Sitting in the car, Lucia silently looked out the window. The man in the driver’s seat glanced at him before turning his attention back to driving. Soon, Lucia frowned. Realizing they weren’t heading towards Lowell’s villa, she looked at the man in confusion.
“Lowell asked me to bring you here,” the man explained coldly.
“Okay,” Lucia replied, remaining silent.
After a while, the car finally stopped in front of some wooden houses. Lucia fell in love with this place at first sight. In fact, it was a place frequented by everyone who loved the S City aesthetic. There were no reinforced concrete walls, but simple wooden structures. All the houses here were separate. The deeper they went into the region, the more luxurious the houses became. The houses in the innermost part of the area were all three-story detached villas, each with its own swimming pool, courtyard, etc.
These houses were available for short-term stays, but people would not be able to reserve them for the weekend unless they reserved six months in advance. As for houses with romantic ambiances that one wants to reserve for special occasions, reservations should be made even earlier.
“Why did Lowell send me here?” » Lucia wondered, but soon enough, the man next to her dispelled her doubts.
“Whenever Lowell is in S City, he stays here for a while. He has a house here.”
Lucia nodded and followed the man to a huge wooden house. The man swiped the access card and the door opened. Lucy entered. As expected, she saw Lowell sitting in the living room.
“Lucie, welcome. You can stay here for now,” Lowell said.
“Thank you. I really like this place,” Lucia said sincerely.
“I’m glad you found it suitable. If you need anything, you can ask the housekeeper for help. Lucia, whatever happens, face it bravely. It wasn’t not easy for you to find yourself. Don’t go back into the quagmire so easily,” Lowell advised.
“Hmm, I know,” Lucia said simply, feeling a little uneasy.
“Take a good rest. I have to go now, but you can call me anytime if you need my help. If you need to go out somewhere, let the housekeeper know. He will arrange a car for you.” After saying that, Lowell got up and left the house, followed by the man who had driven Lucia here earlier. Once they both went out, Lucia stayed alone in the house. She randomly chose a room, threw her luggage aside, and lay down on the bed. However, she couldn’t fall asleep at all. It wasn’t because the environment wasn’t not good enough, nor because the bed was not soft enough. It was just that her mind was in a mess. After tossing and turning for a long time, Lucia gave up on sleeping and took out her laptop. Seeing that
the group chat was still lively, Lucia clicked on it. Everyone had seen the scandalous reports about Lucia, but none of them talked about it in the group. They consciously avoided the topic and discussed the possibility to have a small party once the planning packet was completed. Lucia sent a smiley emoji, as well as a thumbs-up emoji to indicate she agreed. As for time and place, they could talk about that later.
Lucia’s sadness was gradually dissipated by talking with her colleagues, helping her to temporarily forget her depression.
On the other hand, Kathryn stared at the phone on the table for a long time. She picked it up and put it down, repeating this process several times. Every time she dialed the number, she changed her mind at the last moment. After hesitating for a long time, she finally took a deep breath, as if she had gathered enough courage. This time she made the call and closed her eyes, waiting for the line to connect.
“Catherine? A confused male voice spoke on the other end of the line.
“Was that you earlier? Kathryn asked quickly with her remaining courage.
“You’re crossing the line.” There was a slight warning in the man’s tone.
“I want to know the answer. Just once, okay?” implored Catherine.
“Yes,” the man replied after a short pause.
Hearing this made Kathryn feel like her heart was slowly tearing itself apart, causing suffocating pain. She covered her chest and gasped for air, but she had difficulty breathing. When she had calmed down enough, she asked, “Why did you take me in?” This was the question that had troubled her for a long time.
“Kathryn, you’re asking too many questions,” the man said sharply. It seemed like he didn’t want to continue this topic.
“Just today. Please tell me,” Catherine insisted.
“You will know in the future. If there is nothing important, don’t call me. You have never been so thoughtless before.” The man’s tone was harsh and reproachful.
After scolding her, he abruptly hung up the phone. Hearing the beep indicating that the line was disconnected, Kathryn hung up in a daze. “What didn’t belong to me in the past would never belong to me. But is it because I gave up without fighting for it? Thinking of this, Catherine’s eyes filled with confusion.
It was so hard to love someone.
