It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 127
The Italian winter sun sprinkled into the room through the octagonal window. Croissants, soft milk and an Italian salad sat on the white china table. The butler stood respectfully next to the table and pulled out chairs, waiting for the masters to take their seats.
Lucia changed and walked towards the dining table. Lowell took over the butler’s work and let Lucia sit down. Kathryn usually sat next to Lucia. Lowell took the lead seat. Unexpectedly, the phone in the living room rang. The butler frowned slightly, but quickly stepped forward and answered the phone.
“Miss Su, you are wanted on the phone. It’s from a Mr. Young,” the butler said dutifully as he picked up the cordless phone and walked towards Lucia.
Lucia took the phone in confusion, but soon she realized who was calling her. It was Zack. When they met in front of the elevator the day before yesterday, they agreed to see each other today. She was in a trance and had completely forgotten about him. She smiled at the butler. The butler nodded slightly and ‘ moved aside gently. Lucia walked to the octagonal window and spoke on the phone.
Hearing the caller’s name, Lowell frowned slightly. Soon, he began to enjoy the breakfast on the plate as if nothing was. Kathryn, on the other hand, ate the food on the plate without saying a word.
“Lucia, it’s so hard to find you…I had to call you in person to find you in your room.” Zack teased on the other end of the line.
“I’ve been confused recently,” Lucia explained lightly.
“Do you have an arrangement? Otherwise, how about taking you to Rome today and sending you back tomorrow? I don’t think he’s a prison guard like Malcolm, is he?” Zack was a typical rebellious man. He mentioned everything that shouldn’t be mentioned. “Okay
. Do you want me to find you or…” Lucia accepted Zack’s invitation without hesitation.
“Let’s meet in the lobby. I’ll take care of the rest.” Zack made a quick decision.
Lucia answered and hung up the phone. The butler saw Lucia hang up the phone and came over to pick it up dutifully. Lucia nodded slightly to express her thanks and returned to the dining table. Glancing at Lucia, Lowell said nothing and continued to eat the food on the plate. Lucia didn’t want to say anything. All three fell into an unnatural silence.
Breakfast was finished. Lucia returned to her room. She only took a set of underwear to change into. She put the underwear in the bag she had brought to Italy and went out.
“Lucie, where are you going? I’ll go with you!” Kathryn quickly stood up and asked.
“No, I have a meeting with my friend to go to Rome. I’ll come back tomorrow,” Lucia explained calmly, without hiding anything.
“Lucia, if you want to have fun, go ahead. As long as I can contact you at any time, it’s fine. Don’t worry about me”, Lowell did not stop her but said lightly.
“Thank you.” Lucia nodded slightly to show her gratitude.
She wanted to be cold to Lowell, but she couldn’t. Lowell never cared about how she hurt him or how coldly she treated him. He would always show his best patience and temperament in front of her. Even though he had a purpose when he approached her at the beginning, he always maintained his original attitude once his goal was achieved. As long as she needed something, he could always send it to her before she asked for it. “Take
this . It will be useful. Don’t turn me down, okay?” Lowell took a credit card from his wallet and handed it to Lucia.
Lucia looked at it for a long time, took it silently and put it in her bag. She touched Catherine’s hair, waved her hand, opened the door and left the room. Lowell continued to stare at Lucia until she disappeared from the door.
His phone vibrated. After taking a look at it, Lowell responded to it.
“Commander, everything is ready.”
The next moment, Lowell hung up the phone and walked out of the dining room as if nothing had happened. Kathryn was like an abandoned child, sitting alone at the dining table. She took a deep breath to hold back her tears. After finishing the last bite of food, she thanked the butler and locked herself in her room.
Without Lucia’s presence, she was just an invisible person to Lowell, like before. Sometimes Kathryn really wanted to ask Lowell why he took her back then. What did he mean by saying she was useful to him?
Lucia took the elevator down and soon found Zack in the hallway. Seeing Lucia, Zack greeted her and took her out of the hotel. Along the way, Lucia looked at him in confusion, but she didn’t say anything but just walked with him in silence.
In Lucia’s memory, Zack had never been able to leave a car when he went out, but why did he choose to go out by train this time? Lucia didn’t know what he had in mind. Did he want to experience civilian life?
“Why are you looking at me? I’m taking you for fun. We need to relax. Why should I drive? It will be boring. You will fall asleep in the car. It will be a shame if you don’t take the Eurostar when you are in Europe,” Zack easily read Lucia’s mind and explained angrily.
Lucia shrugged her shoulders and boarded the Eurostar first. Zack followed Lucia onto the train. Lucia found her place and sat down near the window. Under the hot sun, she began to feel sleepy again. Zack frowned and looked at Lucia who was sleepy again.
“Lucia, is it so boring to date me? You don’t like the handsome me, but you still want to sleep.”
Lucia raised her eyelids to look at Zack then closed her eyes again. But his smile couldn’t be hidden. It was easy for her to relax as long as she was with Zack. His casualness could still make him feel no pressure.
“Hey… Lucie… Are you pregnant? You like sleeping so much.” Zack thought of something that wasn’t impossible.
Nowadays, if a mature man and a mature woman made love without using a condom, it was possible to create a baby. Besides… Zack thought of another thing. Lucia and Malcolm hadn’t gone through any divorce proceedings, had they? The situation was really complicated.
Hearing what Zack said, Lucia opened her eyes and looked at him. If she drank water now, she would spray it all over the train wall. What was Zack thinking? After hearing what he said, Lucia silently laughed at herself. If she could have been pregnant, a lot of things might not have happened.
“What… Am I right?” Zack exclaimed.
“You’re crazy,” Lucia cursed angrily and went back to sleep.
Hearing this, Zack shrugged his shoulders and said nothing more. One of them was sleeping, while the other was playing with his phone. When they arrived in Rome and got off the train, it was afternoon tea time there. At three or four o’clock in the afternoon, the shops on the street were full of leisure people.
Lucia carried her bag and wandered the streets of Rome, while Zack followed her. He would introduce her to the scenic spots in time. The two drank Rome’s mellow coffee and unique local food together, walking casually without a destination. For the night, they could stay at the Young family villa in Rome.
When foreigners entered Rome, they inevitably passed through the famous wishing pool. Lucia stood not far from the wishing pool and looked at the sea of people in front of the pool. Each of them sincerely tossed a coin into the wishing pool and closed their eyes to pray and express their wishes.
There must be more couples. Lucia thought to herself. Suddenly, Zack took out a coin and handed it to Lucia, asking her with his eyes if she wanted to make a wish too. Lucia looked at Zack and suddenly smiled. She took the coins from him and headed towards the wishing pool.
“Hey… I don’t want to get married and have kids. It won’t work… I guess a lot of women have wanted that.” Zack had known Lucia for so many years, and he knew her well. Seeing the evil smile on her face, he soon understood what she was thinking.
Lucia didn’t answer him. Holding the coin, she closed her eyes and thought for a long time.
‘If we don’t love each other, then don’t see each other anymore… From now on, let’s be like strangers,’
Lucia said silently to herself and threw the coin in her hand. The coins slipped into the water and the water sparkled. Soon, it sank into the water silently like the other coins. Looking at the coin she had tossed long ago, Lucia turned around and walked back to Zack. Without asking Lucia
what wish she had made, Zack continued to ‘move forward with her. Lucie followed him. The two didn’t talk much along the way.
“Lucie…” Zack opened his mouth, but he didn’t know how to ask.
“What do you want to ask ? Go ahead,” Lucia looked at him and said lightly.
“What’s your relationship with Lowell now?” Zack asked.
“I don’t know…” Lucia answered honestly.
“What about you and Malcolm? You don’t have divorced,” Zack sighed helplessly and asked a more specific question.
“I don’t know…” Lucia thought for a long time and finally answered.
Zack was speechless. He decided not to ask any more questions. He couldn’t get any answers to ask from a person who hadn’t even determined his own state of mind. The two walked side by side through the streets of Rome. When Lucia came across an interesting store, she would go in and take a look. Zack followed her silently. The atmosphere was neither bizarre nor particularly harmonious.
“What’s wrong?” Zack asked Lucia curiously.
Lucia looked back and saw the busy street of Rome. There were still many tourists from various countries and local people in Rome who were idle. Why did she always feel like there were a pair of eyes staring at her? But when she looked back, she didn’t find any clues at all.
“Nothing, maybe it’s my illusion. I always feel like someone is watching me. Maybe it’s because I was followed by too many journalists at the time and I’m too sensitive.” Lucia expressed her feelings.
“Are you crazy? Reporters will never follow you from S City to Rome. The cost is too high. It’s not worth it,” Zack said angrily.
Lucia shrugged her shoulders and continued walking forward. A craft glass store caught his eye. She stopped abruptly and walked in, followed by Zack. He had never understood Lucia’s brain structure anyway. She wasn’t interested in the clothes or bags that all the other women liked. Instead, she always liked things so cold and unfeeling.
Meanwhile, the eyes behind them remained fixed on Lucia’s back for a long time.
